I build some monster 3 piece BBS wheels today by hand for the e30, using mostly tools we all have. Today I show you the basic of polishing from paint to mirror. Check it out!

CRC is your friend with aluminium. Good outcome none the less.

We performed the same task to a set of Carlsson 2/6's for our C43 AMG which debuted at Radwood Austin a few months ago. Unfortunately, most of the sanding by hand which has yielded me a wrist injury. Next set of wheels to refinish will be a set of OZ Operas, and a set of BBS E88's. I hope to have some better tools handy for these other sets.

when i did my rc090s i did pretty much the same thing you did, except buffing with the drill and wheel - you did it dry with compound. I lubricated the buff pad. i think wd40 would work but at the time i beleive i used miineral spirits, and kept the buff pad wet, and it polished about 10x faster.

What motor are you using to spin the wheel?

First thing on my mind when you started final polishing was why don't you spin the wheel and polish the lip by microfibre towel and the metal polishes you have. Much faster and more accurate than drill and wool disc. But the final result is nice anyway :)

For those wanting to do this home, but quality sandpaper. It's heaps better and costs less. Soak the paper before you start in a bucket of soapy water and really wet the surface to stop getting the brushed look, and don't use your dirty old buffing wheel to polish. Different polishes require different grade of foam waffle pads. It will speed up your entire process

Why'd you have to machine the centers? Are they not perfectly flat already in the back to mount to the barrels?

I'm a sucker for all black wheels. Not everyone's style, but I took my rc090s to get completely powder coated in gloss black. The place charges under $200 a set and I only have $240 in the wheels so far. Gonna run them normal on my e28 for a little while, then flip them and widen the rears like you're doing when budget allows. Gotta have something wide in the rear to handle hx40 m30 power! What are you doing about wheel hardware? Your original bolts won't be long enough and 32mm m7 wheel hardware is stupid expensive.

ive just been doing some 3sdm 0.05s, they were pretty bad but got a good finish on them in the end. i started with 600, 800, 1000, 1200, 1500 . then i used polishing compound similar to g3 , after that i used a wheel on them. ive got to seal them now but unsure on what to use. do i clear coat? or do i just use a sealant? ........ if i use a cleat coat and chip it, then they start to worm ect ill have to redo them as well as stripping the clear off them.

a hub of car that fits wheel, 3dprint adadpter for the motor that have axle splines 1 side, and motorhub the other, pretty simple

Why not use the rotation of the power wheel and polish it as it spins I’ve done it on all my builds and it leaves the lips super chrome
