Kudos for the effort, they look awesome. Did this sort of project on a couple sets of rims, I would consider applying clear lacquer after mirror polishing the bead. It was a pain to maintain if kept raw.👍

The barrels are one piece, so unless of a crack, yes they will hold air even without the center bolted in. The only question I had was the texture of the tire bead seating surface not allowing it to seal very well.

I often shock those broken bolts by hitting them with TIG and then quenching the bolt w/ Lectra-Clean (trichlorethane) and they usually thread right out.

Your work looks amazing. The only thing i worry about is the heat used for getting the bolt out. Does the barrel have any sort of heat treatment or rotary forging process from the factory? Heat might change the crystalline structure of the metal and make it softer/malleable
@Alekoubas
@Alekoubas 11 ай бұрын
Exaclty what I was going to comment, that wheel is most likely weakened significantly after such intense local heat application, and stress cracks may develop over time around the edges of the heated area. The proper way would be to put it in an oven and heat cycle it uniformly after the bolt was out. Aside from that, very clean result!
