If you don't use your thumb, pretty much any ball will work. In the late 90s I bowled a league where they stripped the lanes the night before so they were pretty uncontrollable even for urethane. I had an old plastic ball from the 70s that I started throwing. Had 270-751 one week playing first arrow.

Well let's just say, I have multiple high-end Storm, Global, Rotonda Grip balls, yet in League I start at 35, looking 18 - 8 and I throw my $119.99 Hustle USA. Then 95% of League bowls up 10. I just can't figure out how to take revs off. So my budget is, I seem to get better reactions with a low budget. It's just not ideal cause from Practice on, I don't have any room to adjust.

heheheheHA! I Don'T need bowling shoes (I bowl with my tennis shoes & stop at the foul line), I NEVER wipe my ball oil off so I need NOTHING to wipe oil. #4: Hey Brady what about if you switch your bowling shoes for tennis shoes to stop at the foul line rather then slide?? I did this in Aug 2023 I bowl better now! you never need to worrie about sliding any more because you always stop at the foul line & you can not slide past the foul line. using tennis shoes over sliding bowling shoes works out WAY batter for me. also I decided to switch sliding feet so that I throw right hand while I don't slide but stop on my front right foot so I throw right hand & I have my right foot at the foul line. this works better for me. I was only a 160 something bowler before I made this switch. I started a new league on Monday 12-18-23 with a 190 avg. ny highest avg was back in 2007 when I had to quit bowling because I didn't have the money any more & then I started bowling again May 6th 2021. Ive been back 3 years now & could could NOT get my avg more then a 165 was my high before I changed things! I have bowling right hand, right foot out in front with tennis shoes since Sept 13 2023 so what 3 months now. but I also went from a straight ball to a hook ball at that same time! #3: Also I NEVER wipe my ball off of oil. I don't believe wiping your ball off of oil helps enough to worrie about. I call wiping your ball off of oil, keep messing with your shoes & the other routines before you bowl is just a superstitious tick thing. I watch you Brady & Bella & see both of you must wipe your shoe off as a SUPERSTITIOUS tick along with wiping the ball off. here's what I wrote on oil & bowling: #2: I truly believe you should NEVER wipe your ball off of oil because you WANT oil on your ball & not just that if the lanes are somewhat dry you want oil on your ball. also once you lay your ball down in the front oily part of the lane it has oil on the first rev so if you rev your ball with only 1 rev your ball is coated with the oil way before it gets to the dry part of the lane. that is on a short oil pattern its 25 feet of oil on the long pattern its 45 feet of oil. your ball revs at least 5 times before the end of any oil pattern. so I do not see where wiping a bowling ball off of oil could EVER help. It can't help #1: ooops I meant 35 foot of oil NOT 25': its 35 feet of oil for a short oil pattern & 45 feet for the long oil pattern. your ball is 8.5 inches across so that's what like 18 inches in circumference?? 35 feet = 420 inches /18 = it rolls 23 times in oil before the end of a short pattern, right??? & more then that on a long pattern of oil??, RIGHT?

Actually, I just recently got a job back at my home bowling alley Lakeside Lanes in Central Florida and plan on returning to the sport. Using my Christmas Club money (December 1957) I bought a fingertip ebonite ball, a bag and shoes for a total of $50. The pins were wood, the alleys were wood, there was no talk about oil patterns, and scoring was considerably lower.
