Bahco pronounced "backo" (Berndt August Hjorth & CO) founded in Sweden in 1881 as a machine shop. In 1890 they began to develop and sell tools from their own mechanic workshops in Enköping

Excellent value tools, although i want my tools with bright vivid colors when in the woods. I would pick a bahco pg-72 instead and a Mora Companion HD in orange as well (or even better a Mora Bushcraft Orange if the budget allows).

Love it. great video This stuff is all excellent. Not familiar with the knife, but I love the Mora carbon knives. I started with the Fiskars X7 axe and still use the Laplander. Good video Mora carbon kinfe, Fiskars X7 axe & Bahco Laplander are super items in the bush. On a budget or otherwise.

Thanks for sharing and looking after the common man. Marttiini is brand I am keeping my eye as Mora has gotten a little full themselves price wise. I got my BushCraft Black for around $35 and now I see them now going for $45-65 depending on sheath and the price seem to be rising. Mora has also redesign there "adventure" line to be BB minic's, dropping the wood handle options (except for high end collectibles) and other variants. Price, choice and reliability is what sold many of us on Mora. They my be flirting with disaster playing in the $40+ market especially with Schrade offering solid full tang options in that price range.

I was thinking about this very type of kit when I found your video. The most important part IMHO is to balance the size of each tool. No sense having a huge axe but a saw that can't process enough logs. Or a large saw capable of cutting large logs but not having an axe capable of splitting it. Great video.

As usual great vid. I have a question. I really like the Martiini knife, but in this case I think I would consider a Light My Fire Swedish FireKnife. Might cost a just tad more but having the fire start capability for just another $8, I think is well worth it. I think the Martiini knife is better but the fire starter is just as important.
@crazyswedishguy
@crazyswedishguy 10 жыл бұрын
I don't think you'll really go wrong either way given the low price point of those items (for decent quality), but I personally would choose to keep the knife and ferrocerium rod separate (I would not get the Light My Fire Swedish FireKnife). For a few reasons, but primarily because it will be easier to keep the knife clean without a hole in which dirt can get stuck, and the knife won't feel weird if I lose the rod. I also think the simple knife will be more durable than something made of interconnecting pieces that eventually wear and become loose. You can pick up a ferrocerium rod pretty cheap on eBay or Amazon. I have a Mora Bushcraft Black which I like, along with a few different firesteels. The Marttiini Condor seems like equally good bang for your buck.

No! You must have a $100+ wetterlings axe, a $300+ custom convex grind, full tang blade that can throw a spark using the spine and no true bushcrafter goes to the woods without at least three ways to saw wood. Jk!

I have a hard time faulting these choices. I have a Gerber branded hatchet that is pretty much the X7 equivalent (Fiskars head,). It chews through logs within a reasonable size. Haven't heard of Martiini before this video, but now curious about them. I own a few Moras for smaller blades, and really like that pukko style. I don't own the Bahco saw. I do own other Bahco tools, and they have been quality so far. Seems like a solid, no BS set of gear. Function and durability > labels.

3 of the best bushcraft tools on the market . i would prefer them over more costlier tools . they work and are super dependable whether in the deep woods of maine or alaska . the fiskars axe sharpens so sharp and stays sharp for a long time . a martini or a mora best bushcraft knives out there , especially for me , im on a small budget and its commonman priced . thank you for your video .

I suspect the Marini doesn't get as much air time as the Mora for three reasons. One, it costs a little more for the same type of knife and blade. 2. Mora has far more choices. 3. The steel simply isn't as good as Mora uses. It's not 1095, it's Carbinox T508, which isn't a bad steel at all, but it's not quite as hard as what Mora uses. For that matter, just because a steel is 1095 does not automatically mean it's any good. many companies use 1095, but not the best 1095, and others cheap out on the heat treating and stress relief process. Mora doesn't. The Martini is definitely a good knife, but does cost just a little more for the same style knife, and the steel is a little softer.
@calebb7012

There is nothing budget about this video. The Martinni knives are more expensive than Mora lol! I'm assuming this guy is in the states, my amazon selection might be different. But a gerber axe would be a better choice than the Fiskar, and definitely a Morakniv for a knife. Literal $20 difference.
@ChaplainDaveSparks
@ChaplainDaveSparks 6 жыл бұрын
A tip:. If you're going to use a high carbon steel knife for food processing, bring some mineral oil. 1095 will rust and you will probably want to protect it with something that won't contaminate your food.

Hot dog, I'm using the same combination's on my hot cup of coffee on the open fire, it doesn't get any better, and its better than going to Mc D's, any mid size field/camp knife will do, Ratmandu, Blackbird SK-5, etc., I almost ordered the Bahco Laplander, until I saw the Video on the Wicked Tree Gear Tough Folding Saw, and I upped with the 2Hawks Trapper Double Bit Hatchet, I like the idea you can split on one side, and get it sharp enough to carve with the other side on the hatchet, the different bit's is a good idea to me, Nessmuk did right with the idea, Fiskar's is good hatchet, and my friends swear by them, but they just don't appeal to me, I went with my Estwing's, but for the money, especially trying to get the folk's out to enjoy the out of door's, I think you did a great job suggesting these tool's, good job Aaron.

That Marttiini is nice. I agree it's not being recognized. I like the three choices. What is that bag you are wearing on your chest? Except for one good quality pouch (Fanny pack), I need something compact and wearable on either the hip, back, or shoulder I can use in the suburbs... and is hopefully not too pricey. Just to prove how I like to match my tool's for the bush. I matched up Mr a 2000, with the Mora Hatchet and a Bacho Laplander. I also will carry a sheathed Bokor Plus Vox Black Rold as my on person knife and all match in color somehow. Even if I was somehow seperated from my pack or I overturned my canoe, I will still have on my Survival Belt with the Rold. Laplander Canteen and my Necessities Pouch. But the chance of that happening is nill. Because, I just want a Lite Carry and a Haversack for a afternoon delight.

I would prefer to go with the mora companion which is less than 20$. It's a really great knife. As far as the axe, I prefer a wood handle, so I would look for a vintage head and put a handle on it. It would probably total 30$ unless I could find one one craigslist or at some swapmeet or thriftstore, or yard sale. Another good option is to buy the ontario 12" machete. It really doesn't cost much to obtain good quility bushcraft tools. The most costy is the knife. To buy a really good one you could pay over 100$. Thankfully we have mora and condor. Love bahco saws, but I am really liking the 12" bow saw. Thanks for the video.

Say Heah Aaron, I do listen to you on your videos. This is the time of the year, I like the most, because the weather is warmer so I don't have to process as much firewood to keep warm. When I start searching, I go to your videos. I found a good deal on one of the Lite Hatchets you shared. I could buy a Mora Hatchet and a Mora 2000 for a reasonable price. But the price on the kit is in orange only. The green set isn't in that price. But because the extra I bought qualified me for free shipping so I was able to buy the green set for only a few dollars more. I bought the Wicked Tough Saw over the Bacho Laplander and no regrets. But for the new set I just bought, I ordered a Laplander so the Trio will match great. I know you could get a Orange Bacho Laplander with the Mora 2000 and Hatchet in Orange, But I like Green. I know the Mora Hatchet is only a substitute for a large knife as a chopper, because it's really too light to chip down a tree or even spit. But as only a lite chopper instead of a heavy knife for chopping, is all I wanted. I really enjoy going out to practice a little survival in the bush and kill two birds with one stone, I really enjoy a hot cup of coffee on the open fire and a baked potato and search for fatwood. I think my Mora 2000, the Mora Hatchet and the Bacho Laplander is a good Lite Trio that will work out for what I enjoy to do in the bush. Oh, I know the weight makes a big difference and I really wouldn't use this set in freezing weather where processing alot of wood is necessary to stay warm. But all I want is a lite chopper that will replace a heavier knife chopper and this new set is just that and it's very reasonably priced. Thanx Aaron for your videos. Again you helped out alot.

Aaron, the reason the Marttiini knives are not as popular as the Mora knives is quite simple. Mora knives cost less than Marttiini knives (notice I didn't say they were "cheaper", as that word may imply "less quality" which isn't the case with Mora. But The bottom line is that Mora knives and Marttiini knives are both just a simple rat tail tang knife and they are both made very well, but people are just going to buy the one with the better value - the Mora. Personally I have already broken two of my Mora in the field because of that rat tail tang, so I have transitioned over to only bringing full tang knives with me in the woods now.

But after that I bought a 15$ run of the mill hatchet with a fibreglass handle I used for two years with no fail until I could afford a wetterlings small forest axe. I agree items can be bought inexpensively but avoid fiskars in my personal opinion!

Im a nub at this, but not really new. I carry a bahco and a mora cliper, but i feel like the axe is sorta useless... I would replace with a steel water bottle. Those arent really essential, but boiling water is risky in a wood bowl with rocks

Fsikars is cheap because it is cheap material and like the ole saying goes, "you get what you pay for". I just Google searched your suggestion and I must say, that is an axe (or hatchet, whichever you perfer) lol. Anyways, just thought I'd share the news with ye lol. Cheers!

Pat Provost I'm not with you on that one. I've owned many hatchet and axes. My fiskars is the one that stays in my pack for use. it's light and feels good in the hand. the cutting edge holds up as well as any comparable hatchet. the company makes good scissors and a good axe.

my fiskars has lasted me 2 years and still going strong. Only chips I've ever gotten were when I left my friends try processing wood.
