Thanks for this video, don’t know why KZbin hiding your videos recently. Some Gemini’s have that stress cracking problem which make me leary. PDQ owners all seem to love their factory built boats 😂 I can’t believe FP and Lagoons are now in this price range. Seems like a few years ago they were all way out of this price range!

I'm not a big fan of the Gemini's. I'd go for the Leopard, FP and Lagoons first (in that order). There are definitely better cats than the ex-charter boats but anything that sails good (around 45') is going to be expensive and out of my range. Cats just cost more so we expect to pay more. If I only have $100-150K, I'd be looking for a monohull that sails well. That being said, I'm interested in 42-45' cats about 6 years old. I'll probably have to get an ex charter boat and hope it's performance isn't too bad.

Great video! It's refreshing to see one of these boats available for viewing in Australia. Otherwise, it would take a minimum of a 12 hour flight to the Caribbean to inspect a minimum of half a dozen boats, to make the trip worthwhile.

admittedly, i know nothing about this stuff. but during in-patient rehab i had plenty of time to dream about how i would spend my settlement and the 105MC seemed like the right choice for me given It's beam and therefor relatively cheap(er) marina costs. thanks for the vid! hopefully i'll soon be needing more of a 1 on 1 consult.

@ChasingLatitudes haha same here last few years have been rough. I had to sell my 21 foot Newport to put tires on a car. My problem is that I like too many boats. Realisticly though I prefer freshwater and a catamaran is too big for the lakes here in Northern Idaho.

Gemini 35 Legacy are the awesome , You can actually be over 6ft and stand up straight . They have a shallower draft , but no dagger boards ( why open "blue" water sailing can not be recommended ) They are perfect for the Great Lakes ( storage is another issue . A 30 day food plan for an Atlantic cross would be rough unless solo sailing ) Lagoons & Leopards 38's are motor sailors at best in light wind , You might as well look at a Maverick

Concept: Consider doing a video comparing living on a Gemini 105Mc to buying a small single family residential house in Florida comparing down payments, financing costs, maintenance costs, capital improvements, and terminal value after 5 to 7 years, like a car lease. I think the biggest difference would be terminal value on disposition sale.

I suppose by now that most have read about the folks that have crossed the Atlantic, Pacific (Aussie named Brian on Sailnet) and have circumnavigated (Slapdash) on a used Gemini 105/105mc? There is an often quoted, "I wouldn't do it again" supposedly from the CEO of Gemini and his father. This is a complete fabrication. He stated, at no time did I feel uncomfortable or unsafe.

You should really go back to the 2001 Endeavor at 16:53. I went down a rabbit hole with that boat and you won't believe what that boat went through. Long story short it was damaged during a hurricane and some couple bought it for cheap. It was sinking, had major holes around the hull, one of the centerboards was gone. This couple fixed it themsevles for 10 months. They "fixed" the centerboard by putting together a wood mold and filling it with some kind of foam then covering with fiberglass. I think they wanted to become the next big sailing youtubers, but they don't even have a chanel. Just a poorly managed IG.
Working hard on content today. Most cat's will at least get you up out of the hole in the water, to lounge, navigate and sometimes cook.

Build quality of Geminis is concerning...every one Ive seen is loaded with gelcoat stress cracks.. and theres tons on the market top compete with when it comes time to sell.
@chriscox94372 ай бұрын
Duude, the Admiral, Island Spirits, Lagoon, F-P are all 50-% wider than the Gemini 105s. They all have twin engines and higher bridgedeck clearance. It is not a fair comparison to the budget Geminis. Better to contrast the 105mc to a monohull as you did a few days ago.
@ChasingLatitudes2 ай бұрын
the reason they are budget cats as they are far slimmer hence lowering running costs dramatically
@UUBrahman2 ай бұрын
@@ChasingLatitudes 14 ft beam is not the reason, the reason Geminis are cheap is the construction crews were compensated on a shop time piece method, so install the galley sink and the worker is compensated for a set amount of time for sink installation no matter how long it takes, so out goes quality control, just get the boat out the door and delivered.
@hterrebroodАй бұрын

@@hterrebrood There was a Gemini owners magazine Gem something, I can’t remember the second word. Tony the company owner wrote an article explaining the efficiency of his piece meal production as a way to control costs. Ironically, quality goes down because excellent craftsmanship takes time and workers were not paid for the extra time. You might be able to find the article using google. Also, Gemini catamarans were not completely standardized- every boat is slightly different as Tony tinkered with new ways.

the 18” draft is such a cool feature of the gemini. however i don’t think the saloon layout is luxury enough for the wife to be all in on it. seems like you can get pretty new adventuras if you stretch the budget a little. id imagine that the lagoons must have an earlier one of life with the balsa core? idk.. i do like the leopards and fontaine pajots too.
