Recently got the "Hello" scale and I honestly cannot recommend it though :( The weight randomly jumps around and you have to wait like quite a while for it to stabilise whenever you add or remove anything (I'm talking like 5-10 seconds, jumping anywhere between 2g - 10g). And the on button is pretty annoying to press, it's not just a simple "oh there's a bit of difficulty", but more of a "I have to prod the on button at least 10+ times for it to turn on" kind of problem. For it's price I guess it's to be expected but the dealbreaker for me was the long time it takes to stabilise. Even a simple gust of wind seems to cause the weight to fluctuate. Also the thing shuts off in 2 minutes (even with weight on), which is really short and causes a bit of an annoyance. You can't really expect to be able to multi task with it.

Looks like the cutout in the green scale is so if water drips out it will drip right onto your counter, and not into the display electronics.

1:48 The Gap in that scale is to help prevent liquids from dripping/pouring on the screen/buttons and allows it do "drain" to the table instead.

Had the Hello Scale for 2+ weeks, was great. Until I accidentally spilled liquids on it. Now the numbers move on its own and doesn't seem to function properly anymore. Am still trying to dry it out, fingers crossed it'll solve it. Was a great scale, loved the looks n performance of it, but questionable to use with liquids (ie coffee) if it's that sensitive! 😔

I purchased the "hello" scale to help dial in espresso shots, lik eyou said a little bit of lag, but once you know the scale you can hit it real close :) Thanks for the video!

If you do a scale test again at some point an interesting test would be to slowly add a little bit of weight like one bean at every second or two. The green scale has some error correction or something and often doesn't accurately measure small changes. I have to remove the bean dosing cup completely, add or remove a few beans and weigh again. That mitigates it somewhat but I just bought a more precise scale because it still seems to vary quite a bit which is affecting my espresso shots. All in all I think the green scale is fine if you get it for something like the 13 euros I got mine for a few years ago. It'll definitely get you started, but for espresso I'd recommend upgrading if you can afford it.

shikanata Hi! Unfortunately there isn’t a way to calibrate it, it’s just a really sensitive scale, I’d say to just tare it a few times before making your measurement, and you should be good!! :) Regards, Drei

Wahh! First of all, thank you for existing, and this video is awesome! I have the hello scale currently but something's come loose and i don't know what, and it just suddenly dies on me. Just putting this on here in case someone wants to know about the scale's longevity, I've had it for a wee 3 months. Hope i can whack it back into shape, otherwise I think this is a sign for me to invest into more uh, boujee scales. Anyways, you definitely get a sub from me!!!

I'm pretty sure that the groove is to hold the portafilter spouts in place when you have ground your coffee straight into the portafilter.

Hey Drei! Great video. Just wanted to say that the Hello scale may have that little "groove" as you say specifically to keep your carafe in place, not unlike a tire stop in a parking lot. :) But that's just my assumption, no idea if the makers had that in mind lol

I got a different cheap scale, has no backlight and it has a loud obnoxious full-second-long beep when you turn it off (just a quick tolerable one when turning it on). It was only $10 usd instead of the $22 I saw for the Hello scale. I think I'm gonna exchange it

I have the green one not very happy with it , whenever you take off coffee from it is takes ages to recalibrate and doesn't seem accurate for small adjustments

The Green scale is probably the worst scale I’ve ever used, under no circumstances should you go through the hell of using it in a busy cafe

I had the "green scale"which I bought as a Coffee Gator scale (turned out to be a rebranding of that cheap scale) and the delay WAS a big problem. Almost a 1 second delay... it is impossible for making espressos since when you stop the shot, then the scale keeps going. Definitely avoid it

Hi there! My Hello Scale still works perfectly fine to this day! Although nowadays It has been relegated to more food tasks as Ive since upgraded my Coffee Scale to the Timemore scale :) Regards, Drei

The Hello scale sucks ass. I have one. The non tactile buttons and timer not have milliseconds, means you can’t tell it registered the push until a second later, it 90% fails. I love everything else but it is a deal killer. STAY AWAY

Honestly Ive had mine for quite some time and have had no issues at all. And to my knowledge, I don't know of any coffee scale that has milliseconds? If by fails, you mean its not weighing properly then you might have defective one or a QC issue. But if your only concern is the buttons not being tactile and not having milliseconds, then I think it might have to be a question of personal preference at that point. The hello scale for me is still one of the best options in this budget price point. ✌🏻
