Manly does S90V extremely well. Mine is 63 HRC. Spyderco's s90v wasn't even coming close to that until the CF Yojumbo sprint that's been tested around 62. If I had to pick a single favorite steel, it would be s90v Edit: my old BBS exclusive S90V Millie was low 59's, and my kw exclusive cf/ti Millie is 60.5.

Yeah, manly really does do a kick-ass job on s90v. What's really cool was my parents live in Bulgaria where they're manufactured so I can get them extremely easily and for very cheap. In my opinion, the heat treat itself isn't as good on manly as it is Spyderco, but they do run the steel a little harder. On the stones, the manly s90v just doesn't feel nor respond as good as golden done s90v. In my cut tests manly s90v did a hell of a good job and gave golden s90v a real run for its money.

ouypost76 has tested a spyderco s90v at 62rc. It's also fairly common to see spyderco USA s90v at 59 to 62. All other spyderco factories max at 59. And a few years ago all spyderco USA s90v knives were also 59ish.

@tacticalcenter8658 I feel like my Spyderco Phil Wilson South Fork s90v feels way harder on the stones than 58HRC but I'm not a magician. It just feels super hard on the stones like other steel I know is at 61HRC.

Hello from Bulgaria 😊 I've been using the dual grind method and getting amazing results on various steels. Thanks for the fun and educational videos!

Wow! Thank you so much for the comment - so fun to get a Bulgarian comment on a video about a Bulgarian knife. I am so glad you are getting great performance from dual grit sharpening!

S90V is a fav of mine for EDC. I like 800 and 1,200 grits (diamond) on mine, personally. Offers plenty of bite and edge retention, without being too “rough” feeling. Manly make good stuff. Their heat treatment (from previous experiences) is pretty dang good.

I have been using one of their "Peak" knives this week and have been really pleased with the edge geometry and the HT seems pretty solid!

The scratch pattern in first close up is why I suggested using the combination square.

Yeah, it's a wonderful idea man - to be honest my videos are published about 6 months out from when I film them, so it takes a long time for present input to make it into the videos - sorry about that. Thanks for the idea though, it would be awesome to line up the scratch pattern perfectly!

@@homeslicesharpening good to hear a response, meaning that you like the idea. Been using it for a while (Few months before saying anything) use it in good health. Only one other you tuber I shared with is Neeves knives and didn't get any type of response. So use it and abuse it, a mention would be nice . J.Demeter from the outer 48

Interesting to hear your results with serrated H1, I know Sal and Eric Glesser at Spyderco have claimed that it's the longest lasting edge they've ever tested. It seems crazy but they would know and your experience seems to back it up. Work-hardening austenitic steel has secrets to tell...

Yeah, they told me that as well - and my experience with serrated H1 definitely line up!

I prefer using 10V over s90V.

Agree. It sharpens better, can handle tougher cutting, and in my experience can run lower edge angles too. Of course with it properly ht'd and good geometry

@@chriswebb3018 10V is one of my favorites. It sucks to grind but it’s an amazing performer. I shoot for 65 hrc on my 10V.

I wish spyderco ran there s90v at 63+. I have a cutom edc fixed blade in s90v at 64rc and it way better than anything in s90v from spyderco. They do a good job but not as good as people think.

Yeah, they have made huge strides in many of their high vanadium steels, but I think S90V has been a gradual journey for them, figuring out a good HT protocol. That's what I've heard anyway.

that's an awesome serration on that s90v....but it held up well. Do you think it was the stone stripping the carbide out the matrix ? is that how the 400 grit usually sharpens up ?
@homeslicesharpening
@homeslicesharpening 2 ай бұрын
I'm not sure, I wish I could get closer to see! I'm sure there is some micro-chipping in the sharpened edge, and I'm sure some of the carbide separates, but you would think that the initial BESS reading would suffer if the carbide tear-out had been really bad? Seems like a fairly good working edge to me.
