Definitely going to be getting down on this. I can't really justify the cost of the CR Spotless setup but this looks like a killer bang for the buck solution. BTW, I just picked up a new Marina Bay Blue Metallic X3M Competition from the guys over at United BMW in Alpharetta this weekend. Super low miles and the previous owner had it ceramic coated last year and took very good care of it. It's my first BMW and so far I'm loving it. I just finished a Tesla Model 3 performance 3 year lease so it's good to be back in something making some awesome noises and something that excites me when I drive it. The Tesla was fast but that's about all it had going for it.

That’s awesome on the purchase. Have lots of friends with X3M and they all love them. Test your water first to make sure you won’t be changing the filters constantly since the capacity is so small compared to a cr spotless.

I couldn’t at the moment my whole system is built around a cr spotless, but the concept would be the same as they both use the same thread size. I loved to a bigger setup because in the wall I wanted more flow and longer resin duration. It wont build more pressure at the water discharge, it will not build more pressure before and within the filter, it will reduce the flow volume at a given source pressure, if you increase the conduit size after the converging point, the pressure will be reduced at full volume due to viscous drag at the point with the narrowest diameter in the supply source circuit

@CarsWithKeav
@CarsWithKeav 5 ай бұрын
With this size filter you will need some decent water. If your water is hard you will have to get a much bigger system to consistently do 2 GPM and not have to change filters every few washes.

@@CarsWithKeav Thanks. What I really want to be able to do is use my pressure washer which is 2 gpm. Will this set up work. How many gallons do you think your set up would make? I want to use deionized water through the entire wash process. It pulls dirt away from surfaces than tap water because it's purer.
@CarsWithKeav
@CarsWithKeav 5 ай бұрын
@@chrisw.7039 To be honest to flow 2gpm through the whole process consistently it needs to be a bigger system. This unit with good tap water might get 100 gallons. You would use probably 15 to 20 gallons during a wash. Going spotless water can get expensive with the resin. I personally think the tank style is the best way to go. I just bought the Griots one which can run 4gpm and do 10x the amount of water as this little one. It also has a built in bypass all for $299 which I think is a great deal. If you were doing just the final rinse this little unit is feasible.

@CarsWithKeav

Each canister takes about a pound of this color change resin. So if running both about 5 times. Some other resins weigh more and fill up the canister quicker. I would go with 1 lb per canister as an average.

Great setup. I had one question that I’m confused on. At the beginning you give the fittings that you use on the exit side of DI system. I have the aquatic life setup and on mine the exit side came with the fitting for a garden hose but noticed a plastic piece inside it that I think reduces water flow. Do I still need to use this or would it be ok without and go with your setup? Please help and thanks
@CarsWithKeav
@CarsWithKeav Жыл бұрын
That reducer is there because the aquatic life can’t flow as much water as the Max Water system I use. You could remove it I think, but unsure if it will fully filter before the water exits. It might work though, need a ppm meter to measure and make sure it’s 0ppm.

Are you using an actual pressure washer (didn't hear one running) or just the hose and nozzle from one?
@CarsWithKeav
@CarsWithKeav Жыл бұрын
For the DI rinse I use the hose and a nozzle that has a good stream. Pressure washer is not on just water running through it. If you want to run with a pressure washer beat to go with a CR Spotless. You could run a Ryobi or a lower flow unit like that, but anything over 1.5 gpm I think this filter system would struggle.

The brown sugar is a high impact poly styrene. Or really super hard plastic with a negative charge that attracts the solid impurities in the water. The black carbon which should be mix is for removing chemicals in the water. I think 🤔 🥲

You would be correct on the carbon being for the chemicals. Also, it is a resin and the brown sugar colored ones are mixed bed so they have positive and negative charged ions to attract and pull out minerals.

Just came across your video. Excellent content and set up. I'm thinking of adding solar panel cleaning to my pressure washer service. I'm in San Antonio, Texas and we have some of the hardest water in the nation. Research is showing to use deionized water for cleaning. Would these filters work in your opinion?
@CarsWithKeav
@CarsWithKeav 2 жыл бұрын
They would, but depends on the ppm of the water you are using. These small filters will get worn out quickly with higher ppm. This is what many windows guys use and would assume the same process for solar panel except the panels are not as scratch resistant as glass. I would suggest a CR Spotless or one of the other big 20 inch filter housing which would get you way more gallons and not have to change so often. For sure would need a 2 stage before the DI filter to help break down the solids as the resin is much more expensive. A couple of 1 micron carbon filters would help.

Hardest to know is how long it will last. That will all depend how much flow you have going through it and the quality of the water going in. I have very low TDS water from the house at like 60 TDS and washed twice a week and it lasted 6 months. Works great for personal use. If I myself was running a mobile detailing van I would have a big water tank in the van and would rent DI tanks from a service and fill the tank in the van with it. Using the DI water for the whole wash process due to most likely washing in the sun.

@@fabiofboful A unit that size can do 60 gallons an hour pretty easily. Just depends on the source water. If it’s really good quality water you could do 100 gallons an hour, but due to the small size you will be refilling quite often as 150 gallons is probably the limit on resin life.

Works great. I moved onto the CR spotless due to inline tds and more capacity. It also does .5 more GPM. 38 tds is great and this should last a long time with that number. This world sucks with supply it has gone out of stock several times and they changed from a clear filter holder to white. If you find a unit that can do 2 GPM you can buy the resin filters separate and build your own. The aquatic life one others buy is cheaper and good, but it’s flow rate is much less.

240ppm you will be going through DI resin pretty quick. A Reverse Osmosis system would help, but expensive to filter at a good flow rate. That kind of water is real tough on resin and this size unit you would be refilling quite often and might not even get to 0 ppm you would need to go to a much larger system to get more surface area. I have learned a ton on these systems and have tested many since this video. For most that have that quality of water in detailing they use Reverse Osmosis systems. I am doing a video soon on an RO system, the water storage options and how to pump or gravity feed back to your DI system to rinse. You really only need the room to hold 20 gallons to wash a car fully from beginning to end. Others who do not use RO systems they usually rent DI system tanks and have them replaced from time to time. Very cost effective if you have a service in town. Las Vegas might have something like that as well.

Reducing size does not increase pressure, it decreases pressure due to more flow restriction
@CarsWithKeav
@CarsWithKeav 4 ай бұрын
If you flow the same amount of water from the source pressure will always increase when you reduce the size it goes through. For centuries this is how the hydraulic mining is done by taking a big creek and slowly decreasing the area and forcing it through a pipe that gets smaller and smaller creating a pressure stream enough to tear down mountains. Same goes for pressure washer nozzle you increase size the pressure decreases and allows more water flow. Exact opposite when you decrease size PSI increases and water flow decreases. Smaller size decreases water flow (GPM), but increase pressure (PSI).
