As a gorilla fighter these types of drones are serious threat to me and they are dropping morter shells on me. I used 12 Guage for this but it didn't work and now they are flying about 700 to 800 meters altitude. You can't hit it with M16 or Kalashnikov at this range on small moving target! What you suggest😂

When was a federal law passed protecting all UAVs? Drone is the colloquial term for any radio controlled aircraft. I recall a court case in which FAA has no authority in the usable air space above your private property and a man won against charges for shooting down a pest radio quad copter. It was harassing his wife and daughters and finally he shot it and the judge sided with him setting legal precedence. I’m curious how FAA expects to enforce this master protection for all annoying buzzing trespassing things on private property and within usable air space, when case law already precedes that it’s lawful defense to shoot them down if they’re harassing you and people have made common practice of shooting them down for being within their own usable airspace. This means that if you could make lawful use of that airspace without FAA permission (radio airplanes, ultra light aircraft, skyscraper, radio antennas, etc) not necessarily that you do, then it’s part of your property. Again in case I wasn’t clear not arguing just stating why I’m skeptical.

For out drones or 1 shot show stopper. Most squads that can, have one, either designated shotgunner, or shotguns in the group. Shotguns are back on the Americans menu boys. Its all i have for a long gun anymore anyways fo4 now times got tougher. I used to think about a full auto shotgun or .22 for FPV drones but they are too fast. Human cant operate it or detect a drone fast enough. A spotting drone will be too far away for your 60-100 yard shotgun. You cant hear it coming even without hearing protection. Too much video evidence shows Russians shooting at drones, hitting nothing and being hit. It has to be a system.

Pattern your shotgun on paper at 25, 35, and 45 yards to test the pellet density of various loads and choke diameters. You'll probably find that something like Federal Speed-Shok with 1 1/8oz #2 shot (for ducks and geese) will work quite well out of both modified and full chokes. If you need more range, BB or BBB will work, but you'll have fewer pellets and you'll want to use the full choke. If you have a drone or know someone who does, have it fly both overhead and at nearly eye level at various distances while you estimate the range. Drones flying directly overhead look farther away than drones flying at almost eye level, horizontal to the ground. You'll want to make sure to wait to shoot until it's in effective range. Enjoy.

You can also make small suicide drones to take out other drones (when you can't use a shotgun). Just buy some of the super cheap fast little drones and put a small payload on the front of it and you can fly it right into it or near enough to take it out. Also, jamming is an option because in the situation where you would be fighting drones, who cares about the law?

Seems like a high power hand held laser could potentially damage optics. Certainly blind them. You get a good bit of spread at 100 yards like a tight spotlight. I've tried IR, red and green lasers with night vision and they really light things up! NV through a 50mm scope and laser spot will show individual faces at a hella distance. Jamming tech seems like best bet for any distance. A good directional, shielded yagi. But a drone can be radio, wifi, 2.400, 900 or any number of frequencies. Maybe even custom?

Bird hunter here... First, one patterns his shotgun at a measured range (40 yards?) and then holds up a lifesize replica to the pattern. As long as the pattern is dense enough, the cloud will impact the target at that range. Next, the shot size has to be big enough to puncture or batter the target significantly. I will suggest nothing smaller than #6 lead, and maybe #4 lead will give a more violent result. 1 1/2 oz of #4 is a good amount of lead, "Magnum" shot is harder and patterns better. Steel shot loses speed too fast, lead keeps its velocity. Tungsten shot with above 12 grams/cc of density is expensive, super hard and patterns great. Puncture power is 1st rate. Learning lead for fast movers is a significant issue, go trap shooting. So, best answer for average guy is probably 2 3/4" or 3" 12 gauge, with biggish lead shot. Ragged patterns mean either the range is too far, or your weapon doesn't like that particular load.

Many seem to think that only surveillance or FPV drones are in play, and that they would be too far away to engage. But what about drones used to drop munitions? According to some Ukrainian soldiers, those drones are often within about 100 meters. Still quite a distance for bird shot, but perhaps within the realm of possibility for some sort of smaller buckshot with a flight-control wad out of a magnum shell.

After seeing some KZbin videos about the Ukrainian drone usage I got on ammo seek a few weeks ago and the ammo I was considering was 12ga #4 buck 3 in inch magnums with copper coated shot. Sure, it was $1.01 a round, but that's the load I'd pick. For reasons i don't understand copper coated shot has better range and accuracy, and 42 pellets launched way out there should get the job done. You could use that load for CQB too, 3 inch magnums buck could wreck yo couch or your drone....
@yellowdog762jb
@yellowdog762jb 2 ай бұрын
Copper covered pellets don't have more range just because they are covered in copper. Shotgun pellets are traditionally made of lead, which is soft. A copper coating makes them harder and less subject to deformation when fired. The less the shot is deformed, the more consistent it is in holding a pattern and the fewer gaps you have in your pattern for the target to pass through since randomly shaped pellets aren't zooming off outside of the pattern aimed at your target. Thus loads with copper covered pellets will generally have more consistent and uniform patterns. A pattern from a load with harder shot with fewer gaps is more effective at a given range, and usually a bit farther down range, than one from a load of very soft shot. Some pellets always get deformed when fired down a shotgun barrel. But higher quality rounds use harder shot and better systems inside the shell to cushion and protect the individual pellets as they travel thru the barrel. For those that don't know, the smaller the shot number, the larger the pellet. But the fewer pellets there are in the load. Steel shot is less dense than lead, so for the same weight load, the more pellets. But steel has less retained energy down range. Bismuth has more retained energy down range than steel. And tungsten has even more. Steel, or non toxic waterfowl loads in sizes 1 thru BBB are probably the most affordable long range loads. 12 GA 00, AKA Double Ought buckshot, only has 9 pellets per load, although they are 30 caliber in size. Turkey loads are still available with lead pellets, and they are very consistent down range since the target is usually only the turkey's head and neck. But the most common shot size is 4. My guess is that the range one could consistently take out a Frisbee sized object might be around 60 yards with a turkey load. If I was buying anti Frezbee rounds, I'd probably lean towards high quality water fowl rounds in #1s and 2s and I'd go with a medium to full choke on my shotgun. I'd also buy 3 or 3.5 inch long shells if they'd fit in my gun. 2 3/4 inches is "standard" size in older guns. You may also want to check and see if your shot gun has a removable plug in case you want to load a couple of extra rounds. Just don't forget to reinstall it if you go hunting for non plastic targets. Also, the projectiles don't all arrive on target at the same time. For instance, if one could freeze the airborne shot in mid flight 20 or 25 yards downrange, the first shot in the pattern might be several feet, or more, in front of the last of the shot. Which is part of the reason that a good swing through is important in shotguning. Back in the 70's, Bob Brister wrote a book that went into great detail about what the flight characteristics of shot were. I think the book is called The Art of the Shotgun. Or something similar. If you are an avid shotgunner, or just want to geek out on the mid flight properties of shot, it's an excellent book. If you don't have much experience with a shot gun, it can help to visualize your pellet stream as a stream of water coming from a garden hose. A stationary target it pretty easy to hit. But imagine that your dog was running across the yard in front of you and you wanted to squirt him. Using your garden hose, start squirting behind him and swing the nozzle of the hose past him. Your hose will be pointed in front of him and the stream of water will appear to curve backwards to the point where it's actually wetting your dog. Your shot pattern does the very same thing. That's why you have to shoot in front of your target and you also have to continue the follow through after you pull the trigger.

In 2015 in Hillview, KY, a neighborhood just south of Louisville, a drone was flying over a guy's house in a residential neighborhood while his daughter was out sunbathing. One shotgun blast later and drone problem solved. He was arrested at first but then all charges dropped. So yeah, it works!

I can hit a moving bumble bee with a pellet gun, but I'd still choose a counter-drone or punt gun over a 12 Guage.

Most surveillance drone now have cameras that allow them to get detailed photos at an altitude much higher than any shotgun loads could reach. PITW

Curious, if you were in international waters and flying your own drone, could you conduct this test legally? Asking for a friend. And why are drones considered aircraft if they are not large enough to carry a person. There needs to be common sense put into law, a small, under 10 pound drone or 20 pound drone over private property can be taken out. Too many people are flying drones on private property and using them for not legal purposes and getting away with it because cops get there too late. Also curious if something like a potato gun(not a firearm) could fire something into the air that would unfurl steel wires to entangle the drone rotors and bring it down (thinking something like chaff but better range.)
