Cleaning your rifle is a great example of why having a QD sling is nice to have. Also, if sling gets hooked on anything for some reason it’s easy to remove. I’m sure there are other perks but #1 reason for me is being able to remove sling easily just before separating upper and lower for any cleaning, maintenance or trouble shooting.

QD’s give you options to mount sling in different locations/shooting applications. QD’s attachment points can make the weapon lay on your body/equipment more ergonomically. The money you pay for QD’s buys you time. If I need my sling off quickly, don’t want it on my weapon, want to change mounting points or need to make a hasty tourniquet out of it. At the end of the day… run what you can afford and use efficiently.

In other channels I've watched, the main reason for the QD's is because they run multi-point slings to allow for shooting from the weak side around obstacles, etc. They're always flipping back and forth between sling configurations. I'm not saying that I agree with it, just reporting what I'm seeing. I have one QD on the stock because of the type of stock that I have. It doesn't have an intuitive webbing slot. The QD doesn't rattle. I use a standard A2 sling swivel up front. I don't do the multi-point sling configurations.
@cagneybillingsley21655 ай бұрын
shouldn't they train to be able to do that with the sling configured one way? you can't switch qd points in a firefight or do they think so?

Quick release and 3 point slings were invented to fire with your left hand if you are pinned in limited cover. I agree with Grunt Proof, simple is best, however that is why they were invented. Say your pinned, standing with limited cover, and suddenly your receiving fire from your right. If you have this standard sling you can not return fire with out spinning around and exposing yourself or somehow getting yourself out of the sling while pinned. The 3 point sling has a quick release buckle to lengthen the sling to allow you to switch hands quick and start returning fire while keeping exposure to a minimum. With a two point sling you would have to move your arms through and around the sling so you can fire left handed. Same for the quick release. This does create the problem of getting tangled in your gear, which is another reason for the quick release. There is no prefect sling, but that is the reason. I am not saying it's good or bad, it's just one of the reasons for 3 point and or quick release.

The other thing you can do with a 3 point sling is grab the two long sides, then throw them over both shoulders and turn the rifle into a backpack (biathlon style). I found that out purely by accident! Might be useful for a "sniper" role where you would have to crawl a lot and didn't want to bang the rifle into things.

The we'd work for me. 1) I haven't noticed them to be noisy and, yes, I do pay attention to things like that. 2) I have noted that when my slings are attached at the muzzle end of the rifle that, as I walk and move around with the gun, it tends to want to move to a level itself. The muzzle works its way up as the butt pad works it's way down. This is awkward and annoying. My hand guards all have a QD point at the receiver end of the guard and attaching the sling there allows the weight of the barrel to help keep the rifle slanted in a more comfortable position. 3) I haven't really noticed a difference between "expensive" QD swivels and the "cheap" ones. If something looks cheezy in the product photos then don't order it. 4) I'm not sure what sort of QD cups your friend was using but if they're coming unscrewed then he clearly needs a different solution. I have not noticed that on any of my guns. The cups are built into my hand guards and the retention screws used in my Magpul stocks have never gotten loose. 5) Room in my safe is often at a premium and it sure is convenient to be able to just detach the sling when I put the gun away and there's nothing to get snagged on other stuff when taking it out of the safe. Perhaps you're just used to the gear you were issued when you served and if that's the case then, very cool. I'm not convinced there's a wrong answer here. The traditional attachments obviously work for you and I would never try to convince anyone that your viewpoint is invalid. I'm just offering my $.02, for whatever that's worth. If, in the future, my solutions ever prove themselves to be unsatisfactory then they will be unceremoniously discarded in favor of something else.
@krzysztofjackiewicz96205 ай бұрын
@Grunt Proof Rear attachment point consideration - do you prefer buffer tube sling mount or stock mount (as shown in video)? First enables to easly point your gun up (high-ready position or changing mags), second is more stable when rifle is hanging on your back.
@chrisfarr69555 ай бұрын
I use the QD because the attachment points are integrated into most modern rail systems, this allows for multiple attachment points enabling you to mount your sling where it’s most comfortable for YOU. ( fit the gun to you, not yourself to the gun )
@ChemistyStudent5 ай бұрын
I prefer three point slings because of how it makes the weapon hang when my hands aren't actively controlling the weapon. Just feels more natural to me and the straps are wider. Likewise, you have extra room if you need to quickly transition shoulders. I figured out pretty fast, that the three point positions my rifle stock nicely out of the way if I have to do rifle/pistol transitions. The whole "QD thing" never really made sense to me beyond the "Oh S**t buckle in the middle of the $12 condor sling I've used for a decade. Get a sling that's comfortable to wear for extended periods, and holds the weapon how you like it (IMO). My 'expensive' savvy sniper sling with all the QD bells and whistles was a nice stepping stone in figuring out why i like what I like.

The carry handle actually was a protective cover for the original charges ng handle which ran across the top of the receiver, and reciprocated with the bolt. This got very hot while firing, and was quickly redesigned to be non reciprocating, and pulled from the rear of the upper receiver. The sight channel was left there until the AW ban in 1994, when people started making flat top uppers to get rid of the carry handle.

Personally, I run a 1 1/4" OG black cotton web sling. I use it primarily for supporting the rifle when shooting. Hasty, or Hasty Hasty, or even the Loop position where you disconnect the rear and loop it around the arm. Great in Prone, sitting or even standing, yet it takes time to get it together. Awesome at the range and in competitions. I definitely took the metal clip off and used 550 on the front and a QD release on the butt end. So much more quiet, and since it's an AKM I made sure to not use black and go with OD green so it looks mismatched and trashy. However, this setup you have going is more practical for most every other situation. Probably a lot easier to take a dump in the woods, or reload mags (bandage and brass time), even rub one out behind a pine tree whereas with the GI I'm forced to use the stranger method, right hand is occupied. I like it man. Thanks for spreading the info.

Rifle has 2 point bastardized 3 point, for the side mount on the stock.

QD swivels from arisaka are cheap and built so they dont pop out accidentally, also if that hole is already in your handguard you dont have to screw them in. To me the QD point shines if for some reason youre going from weapon to weapon amd dont want to buy 5 slings. Or if maybe you have to pick your buddies rifle up, you could swap slings when you get the chance. I find that it only rattles if im deliberately shaking it to make it rattle, ill try and tape it up and see if i can get it silent while maintaining the QD feature. I run QD in the front and standard sling loop through the buttstock in the rear. I have found that sling that come with fixed QD hardware are very expensive but you can get the sling separately and save some money. BCM QD swivel $15, slings range from $45 to $60. Obviously there are cheaper options. But i make tips so i can buy something nice every now and then.

Slings. The only reason I can come up with for the use of a QD sling is if for some reason it is being used against you either in a fight or drug by something. I've had a few of them and a single point sling. The single point sling I find absolutely useless and it cracked me in the nuts a few times, so it was used to hang my weed eater from, works great for that. I have one on my main rifle like yours, it just works, planning on making a leather sling all because I like leather, no tacticool reason. Now the one I used before was homemade using a water bladder hose sleeve, a couple of clips and some Bungie material, it functions nicely and has no places to bind when transitioning, only issue is it can't be cinched tight. Oh, remember when people were using those three point slings? That was hilarious

Is it needed? Nope. Just a quality of life improvement that CAN improve performance. This makes me think back to when we were stationed south of Baghdad and some of our guys started buying red dots(we didn't get issued any at that time). I was like, iron sights are good enough! We don't need no red dot nonsense! Sure, I was 18 and ignorant, but I was right. We didn't NEED red dots or other optic add-ons. It wasn't until my second tour that I actually got to look through an ACOG for the first time that I changed my tune about optics. Same with slings. I was perfectly happy with my stock, issued sling on my SAW with 550 cord on the front end to make it easier to handle. It wasn't until I was buying stuff as a civilian that I got to experience what a newfangled sling could do for me that I bothered 'side-grading' to get the new type. It was comfy and versatile. You are not wrong. Especially about how quiet you want your sling to be. And a lot of people should hear your perspective so they can be given a reality check. Consumerism is rampant in our kind. It gets out of hand for a lot of us. To hear a rather experienced combat veteran say, "WTF is that shit for? You spent money on THAT?" is very useful.
