Yes, there was a piece of metal in the log and we just had 5 gallon buckets of water with us during the cuts. The tree was doused with water right after this and a few hours later as well. We have a natural spring fed creek just steps away from this particular log. I didn’t put all of that on KZbin only because I didn’t think it would be interesting to people. We use VP Racing full synthetic 2 stroke oil. During breakin it is mixed either 25 or 35 to 1. Once broke in they are ran with either 40 or 50 to 1 depending on period of run and ambient temperature conditions. In some cases I have ran 80 to 1 on less than 60cc saws. This saw in this vid was ran at 25 to 1 during break in I believe then at 50 to 1. During this vid we ran an entire tank of fuel(I think I mentioned that in the vid, it was running out toward the end), we had several camera problems and we just kept cutting. This saw ran really well and I thought I might have scorched the piston from running over 13k rpm but I tore it down after and it was fine. VP makes a quality product and is readily available. @bradforester3635 yes we do actually have the 888 and have had it since it was first released. We planned on using it with a large milling job of a 60” trunk but that fell through with the tree owner. Other than breaking the saw in to bed and seat all the rotating parts it had never had a bar on it. We operate a tree oriented business but haven’t had the opportunity to use the saw yet. It consumes a lot of fuel and oil and is definitely not a saw to run just for the fun of it. Pretty much any power head over 70cc’s have a high cost of operation and with things being the way they are we pinch pennies where we can. Far as I can tell it has the grunt it needs but right now only lacks the right tree. Neotec’s is coming out with a 2100 clone and I’m sure it will be just as usable and comparable. They are great for folks who can’t afford the 2 thousand dollar cost of entry from the oem’s. Ric

@bradforester3635 not sure yet bud. Generally they take a patent that has been expired but also 10 years past and they create from there. Most times they are not exact clones but are very similar in cc but sometimes will be larger or smaller. I would think Neotec will be conservative in its build as they generally have better quality than farmertec. These big power heads are really suited toward super hard wood and thickness. A 90-100 cc head will do the work but will consume hard parts and liquids at a higher rate. These larger heads really have a narrow range of use when it comes to usage. Overkill until it is the right piece of wood I guess you could say.

Hey there and Happy New Years ! We have considered making one just like you described actually. The last couple of months we have been moving at a snails pace from Illness and weather unfortunately. I agree with you that all equipment needs to be at a safe level of tune but not a high or hot level of tune. Unfortunately with the clone saws I believe the manufacturers think a slick looking affordable and good running saw is better than one you can't afford. In my opinion this is acceptable for those of us who can't either afford or stomach spending well over 1k on a saw or such. Having said all of this, they are great and do have short comings but are still the best options. I'll let you know when we can post that vid. Tuning is something that takes a little time but can be learned in short time with patience! Thanks for commenting! Ric

I absolutely love my 872I it is bay far the best saw I have ever personally owned. I wish I could get my hands on the f660v since it has all the upgrades the 872i has. Unfortunately with the rising cost of literally everything right now it's just not in my finances. Hopefully one day!

Yeah, the 872i is a great unit from what U can tell, this f380 is a step up from that platform as well along with several other qualities. Your right about the f660, man that is by for way above anything else out there, I would say pretty close to the original ms660, if I had one I would run them side by side and show it! Fortunately they do make these affordable to where they can be had quicker that the oem's, so your luck will come around. Just patience! Stay safe and happy cutting friend! I'll have a look at the 872 and the f380 then come back here and let you know as to what I find. I do know the f380 has higher quality/performance oriented parts on it. I can say that the standard 872 isn't as rev happy as the f380. I'm pretty sure it will run above 14k if you lean it out but I'm sure that won't be good for longevity though. Yes , they advertise the models that they interchange with. I have used both Stihl oem and Neo-tec parts for the saws that I have torn down. It is less expensive with the Neo-tec repair parts or even ft hyway or the many other repair parts manufacturers that offer spares. To answer your question yes they interchange. I’ve got a Holtzfforma G660 that is fantastic and I’m seriously considering a Neo-tec to help fill a gap i have around the 70cc range that isn’t quite as heavy to lug around as the 660. What saw would you say is the first one you reach for for most jobs?

Great question and one to consider every time. My goto saw for the last several months has been the ns872. Most of the time I am cleaning up blow downs but also harvesting for firewood too. The 872 handles felling chores quickly and is easy to manage. Typically I will have a 24 inch bar on it which will handle most trees to around 30 inches or slightly more depending on lean and spread. Differs between who is felling mind you. If I have been cutting larger than 36 inches I generally goto the Ns892. Speed is important when felling, gotta have the power to get if done safely and quickly, to be safe you gotta have that! Thanks for commenting 👍 and subscribing! Ric

Good deal! We haven't had the luxury of running equipment in like normal so they don't see the normal period they should. Running this saw I actually broke it down and pulled the cylinder off to check for damage as I ran it a little over 14k for a short period and did run it very hard for a full tank in its new life. I was pleasantly surprised there was zero damage to any of the motor. I thought maybe I would see partial seizing or even burning from being so hot but there was nothing. I think that's a testament to the quality of parts. Keep in mind we use 100 gas and a full synthetic 2 stroke oil also. I've been doing some research on all the clone saws lately. I've got a question I haven't really found the answer to. Obviously, there are a lot of Stihl and Husqvarna clone saws out there. Obviously, the legitimate versions of both are good, when it comes to the clone saws would you say the Stihl clone would be a better saw to buy than the Husqvarna clone or vise versa depending on the model of saw? the thing I don't like about the Stihl saws/equipment are it's hard to get genuine parts online without going to a Stihl dealer vs you can get anything you want online for a Husqvarna.

Hey bud and great thought/question. Honestly I would say off all the clones probably 85% of the clones which are the best in my opinion are the stihl clones. The reason why I say this is simple, more of them built. When that many are built then it is just natural for the processes and components to constantly improve. Having said that, the husky 372 is hands down the most popular and most sold big saw in the world. That doesn't mean it as a clone will work the best but should be good at least. All these clone makers do not make an exact duplicate on the expired patents from which they build off of, I know this is true, they are very close but they do make slight changes. Having said that, I still believe the stihl clones are better if only by a small margine. For me I have to have correct ergonomics for me to work well with a saw, some people don't consider this but I do, be it a top handle or the normal rear handle, they have to fit me or else we argue, a lot. I don't think you can go wrong with any clone but do hope people research before they make a purchase of them. Some clone makers have very poor standards and the equipment reflects it. I have a couple of clone machines, a Sinyi TU708 gas powered backpack pesticide/herbicide sprayer with a Mitsubishi TU26 clone, or at least I think that thing is a clone, it runs so well it might be legitimate. The only issue I had in 3 years of using it was the sprayer hose. I also just bought a 33CC 4 in 1 OSAKA pro string trimmer/brush cutter/hedge trimmer/pole saw off ebay and that thing runs like a champ and everything works great on it also. I was thinking about buying a clone chainsaw one of these days, but I already have a Stihl MS180C and a 1959 McCulloch 1-70 and a 1956 IEL Pioneer HM and I rarely have a need for a chainsaw around my house.

Back then it was feast or famine. If you didn't live and do right. You learned you didn't always have the best but something was better than nothing even if it wasn't the best money could buy. @@CornucopiaFarmstead Yeah, most of the equipment I have was inherited, or purchased cheap, or I sold some old equipment to help with the cost of buying new. I've had to work some form of a job since I was about 14 to buy stuff I needed/wanted. Never had much money at all growing up, always barely scraping by. Occasionally, I'll get some kind of a comment from someone telling me either I'm a hillbilly, or I don't have anything worth a damn. I laugh, because these are the people who's parents bought them everything new, and never had to figure anything out for themselves. Those old chainsaws I have, were my grandfathers and he used them every day in the late 50's/early 60's logging in northern Idaho. I don't know how those guys carried those heavy things around every day, and the IEL Pioneer has a cast IRON piston, that thing vibrates so bad I don't know how they did it, but they did. I used to work with this guy my age, that had a truck like mine. His parents bought it for him, and he was always talking shit about mine because his sucked. I paid $900 for mine 11 years ago, and it's done everything I need it to do and then some, never left me stranded. If only that kid bought it himself, maybe he'd understand. I mowed a lot of lawns for that $900. I'm going to run that thing until the wheels fall off of it, screw the prices for new trucks these days.

Hello! Yes this little saw is definitely a screamer for sure. The original ns872 is a great runner also but this iteration is definitely a level or 2 up on that one. For the NH872, I can really give you an honest opinion on it yet as we are still running this 380. It is coming up next though, should be in the next little while here. Honestly I think they are both great for what they are, that being clones that is. The biggest differences between the 2 for me are really small. The 380 is slightly longer but shorter in height. I'm 5'5" so for tight confines the 372 works better, when things are more open then the 380 gives you a better longer fulcrum which makes cutting with less effort. The power is very similar however the 380 does rev much higher as long as you are fluent with tuning and are consistent with your fuel mixing. It is really a toss up with that. If I were to buy another based on my experience with the 2 it would be the 372 simply for the ergonomics and how it fits my body frame size. With all the saws we have which is over 20 saws mind you, we have everything from new and old stihls, same with huskies, poulans, echos, even a couple Mchulochs and blues saws, the nh372 gets used the most. With the variety we have we can actually use the right saw for the right job and that is a nice problem to have for sure. Hope this helps bud, thanks for commenting! Ric

@@RobertELee420 I can't say that I agree with you. I can say that not everything anyone purchases from most any country is perfect, even in the USA. I think if people want to complain about Chinese products they just need to stop using them and just use what ever country they feel they should. The fact is most if not near everyone in the country or world uses many many products made in China. Just because one product from China is deemed good the other is bad? Makes no sense to me. But hey, I have complaints too on many things but in the end a buyer does the best they can and you can't fault that. If someone wants to do that they should go through the property they own and filter out all the Chinese products then they can be genuine to each of there statements on how terrible Chinese products are. I own products from all over the world and I have to because that is what I can afford. We had someone comment on buying an 070 saw, they couldn't afford the stihl or husky but they could the neotec, they were hit by Hurricane Ian and I'm sure will help many neighbors but also save money too. Full disclosure this is a saw that Neo-tec sent us to both review and use for development purposes. We received the Farmmac saws prior to release for sale. They are production units and were the exact same saws to be released for sale. Having said all of this, when we receive anything to be considered for a review we disassemble and examine the equipment. This saw was treated the same. Before it was ran we photographed then uploaded the pictures to several chainsaw (including Neo-tec's own page)Facebook pages for all to see. This reveals both the cylinder and piston conditions along with several other aspects of the build of the saw. We are only one of a few channels that breakdown and reveal workings like this. I believe it helps to hold accountable the manufacturer. I do give my honest opinion of the saw. I can only tell you that we have purchased many of the saws after release and have also received some for sponsored videos which are fully disclosed such as this video is. We will give our opinion regardless as there is know money to be made from either the video or from a simple saw. Basically we do use the equipment to make a video but also to use. Creating each of these videos takes us generally 24 to 30 hours or more on our part, a $400 dollar saw is not payment enough for what we do, having said that you can see how this wouldn't influence us either way. I have said and always will regardless what anyone uses or purchases, perspective. No matter what someone uses they must keep it in perspective. The costs of these saws is very reasonable sometimes less than half the price of and OEM. They are not for the people who don't take care or understand equipment. They are also not perfect (as you can see from the close up photography) but are very good. Are they as good as an oem, no they are not! Do they perform as well as an OEM, sometimes I have found they are better than OEM, but not always. Is the quality good , yes it is. Is the quality as good as OEM, no it isn't but it is close in most cases. Compared to other cline saws Neo-tec is hands down better than other clone saws, way better. Will they last, yes they will if you care for them as you should any equipment. We have the first generation ns872, it is used both at our farm and at my personal work and the saw is bone stock with zero OEM upgrades that typically people recommend. Having said all of this me and my wife personally speak with Neo-tec with development and any other concern we have. They are always willing to help and always take responsibility. In closing I took a chance buying or first clone saw to save money rather than spending $1500 for an OEM. If you are going to make the purchase you have to consider everything, do your research watch some vids and be the judge, read the reviews and go with your gut. Regardless if it is a clone or an OEM, if you don't care for it then soon it will he junk, but if you care for it then it will be good for you. We are not a salesman, we make firewood, mill trees, plant trees for a living and farm. I personally work on 2 strokes daily and can honestly say these are worth the cost of entry but if you don't have a good feeling about something you should walk away, always. Well I do not think any of the chainsaws are made in the United States. Most of this stuff we buy now is made some place else in the world. I know I can not afford the top of the line saws, so Have to look at something in my budget, These saws look like they are about my speed as far as money goes.

You know frankly there is very little pound for pound made in the states any more. We won’t get in to politics but I will say even though we can purchase inexpensive products from all over the world, it doesn’t mean we are shorting overseas makers for those products. I’m just saying people are making a good living(better than what they would have if they weren’t making products destined for America)rather and no living at all. You can get exceptional American made goods but few folks can afford them, I know I can’t. I can honestly tell you , I have used these saws for over 2 years now and other than the nh843, I haven’t had even a minor failure. Now, I do maintain all of our equipment daily but also I don’t mod anything either. When it comes down to getting something done on a limited budget, these clone machines are a great option and in the end, they usually aren’t as bad as you think. Well I just ordered a FARMMAC F380 with the 28" bar and chain, now looking for a couple extra chains before summer cutting season gets here. I have been using a couple Husky 16" saws but those are a little tricky when I attack a 30" tree. LOL We will see how it works this summer, I am 76 years old and still cutting my own fire wood every summer, sure beets sitting in the house and watching KZbin all day.@@CornucopiaFarmstead

You’ll love that saw! You will see when you go to fine tune the card it is a very high revving saw. I would guess it actually has a very good coil on it. When I first started using it I could get 14k rpm out of it easily, now as surprised as I was I did not keep it there and the chain is moving so fast it wasn’t cutting well even with a new grind. I tuned it down to the high 12 low 13 just to keep all the rotating parts rotating. I like the ergonomics of that saw as it is a little shorter on height than most saws comparatively speaking. The case and handle are just a touch longer than I prefer as I am 5’5 on a good day but really an inch shorter on most! It is hard for me to use a 28” bar on a plus size saw as it really effects my balance and isn’t safe in the hilly conditions I work in every day. Now that isn’t to say I don’t use longer bars, I just have to use them in safer flatter environments, mostly 24/25 for felling big wood sometimes greater if needed. Congrats on working that way at 76, we salute you and I aspire to be capable at that age also, at 53 I have a ways to go but plan on making it there! Best of luck and stay safe ! Ric

I work by myself and when I cut down a tree I start cutting it up from the top down, after it is on the ground of course. LOL Get rid of the junk and use everything bigger than my thumb for my own firewood. The 16" saws will work for most of it but when I get down to where the tree comes together into the main trunk, the 16" saws have a problem, that is when this saw comes out. to finish the job.@@CornucopiaFarmstead

@bb1040 sounds like a fine plan, mine is very similar. We use a lot of fuel in all the machines, by far the largest expense is in running 2 stroke gear simply because of the added oil along with the non ethanol fuel too. The larger displacement gear flat guzzles the fuel and oil, it can get costly just in liquids not to mention time through the cut and chain/bar wear. It all adds up! I get concerned when I see a chain kicking of actual Hot ASH from a cut, i.e. burning wood. No Oil, Bar Pinch, Excessive Gap? That looks like a dead, Dry Trunk and easily ignited.

Yes we got concerned as well. The outer inch and sometimes more in other places around the diameter of the log was punky but over all was a display on cutting width. Did it spark and burn , yes from time to time, which is why we focused on it so much. Some of what we show is intentionally for theatrics. Most people do like to be entertained so we keep that in mind when filming. Where the wood was burning was simply a very hard area which was surrounded by punk, if you watch closely you will notice when the smoke intensity, it is when I put the muffler right against the wood, add all factors and you create what we did. After we finished that vid we poured almost 20 gallons of water from the creek which was less than 40 feet away. All the cookies all the saw dust chips, even the log were slowly soaked with water. I hope this helps you understand it wasn't negligence but a show and then proper smothering after. I personally have never removed any of my spark arrestors, and don't plan on it, fire can come from many things, hopefully it won't be me. Thanks for commenting! Ric
