I am impressed that your family will eat that way! I have been plant based all my life and went vegan about 7 years ago. My husband however is a junk food, fast food, meat loving junkie! As a homeschooling Mom as well and on a budget, I always cooked from scratch. When I shop for the week my husband insists to go with me so he can control what I am buying, so we come home with all the trappings of a S.A.D. That usually eats up more than half the budget. Then hen tries to make me feel guilty for buying my " food ". I do not eat fancy vegan meals. Last week I bought myself one bag of organic potatoes, bananas. fresh spinach, and soy milk. Then I use what what I have purchased previously that is in the freezer and pantry. Always buy on sale and preserve to save him money. Canning, dehydrating, and freezing . My first four eat very healthy compared to most. Unfortunately, my last three eat just like their Dad. Can't get them to eat anything that doesn't come out of a box or a bag. Everything they eat is highly processed. It infuriates me that I have to feed that junk to them. If I don't, all he'll breaks out and my husband will fight with me for days, and not in a quiet nice way. We have a much larger budget now so the littles are eating and drinking this that my bigs would have gotten only for a treat. Birthdays, holidays. I can only pray that when they get older they will see the benefits of eating a WFPB diet. I just turned 50 and have zero health issues. My husband is a different story. High blood pressure, way overweight, high cholesterol, arthritis, pre diabetic, and needs knee replacements. This affects our relationship in many ways and makes me extremely sad.🙏

I am glad you were able to vent! And I am sorry :( I am very fortunate that my partner supports our diet. I know how hard it can be when the kids have others influencing their food decisions. When we first switched to being plant-based, one of my kids was in public school. She refused to eat anything at home because she was getting garbage at school. It wasn't until she started homeschooling again that she began eating healthy foods again. With your kid's dad being such a major influence, unfortunately I think the best thing you can do is continue to be a good role model. Hopefully, one day they will choose healthy foods. They will see that your diet has kept you healthy and your husband's has has caused him health problems. They may not realize it now, but as adults they might.

I have been a vegetarian for 31 years and have never found a partner who doesn't want meat with every meal! Very frustrating 😕

I realize this is a year old, but I thought I'd just add that vitacost often has nutritional yeast and grains cheaper than amazon and cheaper than the bulk places -- near me, at least. However, you do pay shipping unless your order is 49 or more. I tend to wait and order all my grains at once, so that hasn't been a problem, but it would certainly be a consideration. They also often have coupons. Right now, there's one for 10 off 50 of food. I had been ordering from amazon thinking they'd be cheapest, but I was surprised that vitacost has much cheaper prices on the same types and brands of grains. There are probably other "health food" sites that also have lower prices ... not trying to "push" vitacost by any means. ;-) Thanks for the great video!

I make my own refried beans and Spanish rice because I am in control of how much fat and salt are used. I don’t use fat or salt in my beans or Spanish rice . My 74 year old husband has heart disease and diabetes . These conditions have been inherited from his mother’s family . They all have one or both of these conditions. I have been seeing a lot of people cooking from scratch lately. It is definitely the best way to get and stay as healthy as possible. Great video. Have a Great Day.

There is so much extra garbage added to ready-to-eat foods, making from scratch is definitely the healthier option! I limit how much salt and oil I use in cooking too. I am so glad you guys are taking care of your health! Thanks so much for watching and posting :)

Wow! How do beans taste with no salt? 🧂
@sandypittman81822 жыл бұрын
@@agirly1503 I cook my beans in the crockpot without salt. I take them after they are cooked and process them till they are mostly smooth, I add one cup of salsa to about 3 cups of beans, a little chili powder, and cumin and process again til mixed and then I put in skillet and cook and stir till desired thickness. I like mine in a bowl with a little cheese and enchilada sauce. He puts his on a tortilla with meat etc. I really don’t miss the salt as the salsa has some in it. I just prefer making as many things as I can from scratch.

Wow, so happy to find your video.........I also eat cheap and plant based, and I meal plan and prep.........it does really save time and money. We do eat different things for each dinner, but usually some type of bowl with a grain or potato, some type of bean, veggies, and a topping sauce made out of sunflower seeds and etc.

In a way our grandparents used to eat this way. Breakfast and lunch the same every day for a week. Each dinner might have been different BUT every Monday would have been meatloaf and every Tuesday pasta, etc... They knew how much to buy so that everyone had enough without having food waste.

Finally! Someone like me that eats plant based. I haven't used tvp in years; you've inspired me to order some. When a KZbinr says they are showing how to drastically cut grocery costs but serve animal products every day, you have to wonder, why?
@raisingwildflowers2 жыл бұрын
Right!? Besides all the other reasons to not eat meat, meat is expensive! I think a lot of people feel like you "need" meat to be healthy. But all the current research says otherwise :)

Looks good! Love all the veggies. :) I'm doing the no spend January too and aside from one slip up (yoga mat on sale), I'm sticking to it. I'll end up doing the February challenge with you too. We're a family of 6 and what we spend on groceries is nuts. Actually, my challenge will probably be a stick to the budget challenge...but that'll be mainly reduced spending on groceries.

Thank you!! I had one slip-up this month too, but just being aware of what I am spending (and mostly not spending lol) has been refreshing! You'll have to let me know how your Feb challenge goes!!

Was doing a no spend month but every time I do it is when everything breaks. Went to do it and the ac broke, not once but three times, blew a circuit breaker no big deal on that one had to replace circuit thing. Who knew that is a thing? Then dryer broke, car broke, and some reason lamp decided to go to blinking which was an easy fix on that one. Then surgery for hubby and believe it or not his insurance got accidently canceled. So given emergency number since it was their fault. Prescriptions had to pay for then when we get it fixed can send for reimbursement. So, I have decided not to do no spend months anymore. Other than the repairs I did do a no spend month and only brought what I needed for surgery as far as food and a few things. Also, we have a fund for home repairs which is what everything came out of.

You break down complex things into simpler actionable steps. Have you ever considered turning this information into downloadable PDFs that you could offer for sale for a small amount of money to compensate you for your time and effort? I know that it is all offered for free through your videos but if you turned your information into lists and steps that people could download to phone, etc or print and put into a binder, it would be helpful as well. Your videos appeal to not only people who want to save money but people who want to eat healthy and maybe they have money to spend but they just want to eat healthy so saving them Time by putting everything into one format is a service. Just my two cents.
