The Palms Egeria Native Performance 44XXUL JDM BFS trout rod is a fiberglass rod that is designed for fishing small streams for smaller trout with a BFS reel. Although there are other models within the Egeria line, I chose the 44XXUL because most of my trout fishing is for brook trout in small streams.
The Palms Egeria does a great job of casting a variety of trout lures. Anything from twitching minnows to lightweight spoons, the Egeria was able to handle and work the lures as they wee intended to be used. The tip section is crisp enough to twitch minnows in current.
Comparing this Palms Egeria to the Dankung Chinese Hooksnout Carp rod I previously reviewed as a budget BFS trout rod, I would choose the Egeria over that rod. The Egeria has a smoother taper and also a better build quality. Even though the Dankung rod is a good value, the Egeria is about the same price with better attributes. Shoudl be a fun rod for catching brook trout and also for panfish.

For trout, i am trying to use spoons, but have gotten really good with minnows. The last trout I caught was with the Daiwa Silver Creek Minnow Slow Fall Custom on the very setup you are using. The 44xxul is amazing for those short, accurate casts. Loads up with less force. Simple wrist flicks can weild great results. Perfect for fine tuning flickcasting skills of those that want to learn proper flick cast.

For early season my favourite is Jackson artist fr55. It has wider action than trout tune with lower frequency. When water is cold and you fish upstream you can fish it really slow. Later for spring till autumn and fishing upstream: Duo spearhead ryuki 45s and 50s, Jackson trout tune 50s, Jackson Komachi sinking. For late summer, beggining of autumn I had really exciting fihing with popper/crank Valkein Ryola.

Nice! At the beginning of the season spoons could be very effective. Late spring to summer a wobbler outperforms a spoon (Duo Ryuki, Daiwa Wise Minnow, Daiwa Double Clutch, Illex Squirrel and many, many more). Well done, once again 👍

Have you ever fished the Palms Rera Kamuy? I currently use the Daiwa Silver Creek with the Major Craft Finetail Glass. I’m considering the palms to pair with the new CQ BFS. I appreciate this video, because this rod is probably a touch too light.

Currently using tsurinoya master both 4’7 and 5’6…… curado bfs with the aftermarket roro spool. But I want to switch over to the SLX bfs with a black roro spool. The SLX will match the master rod better cosmetically

I have an egeria but Im thinking of getting a silver creek glass progressive. How would u compare the silver creek blank to the egeria? Imo they seem to be quite similar in terms of action

I have the L powered Silver Creek. It is definitely more backbone and a faster taper than the Egeria. There is an UL Glass Progressive so, that may be closer to the Egeria but, I'd assume the XXUL Egeria would be well below it. There are other Egeria models that would have more backbone than this one too.

I played around with an Ugly Stix a while back for BFS. The rod is too sloppy on the cast to be really effective. Fun rod and cheap though

This rod does really well with 2gr. Portions of rivers around me are open all year. Only areas close to the Great Lakes because steelhead, large brown trout and salmon go up the river year round to reproduce. Most streams are closed for a season for the same reason as France.

Interesting rod. But can't understand why it weighs 94 gramms? XUL model with lure test 1.5-5 weighs 84 gramms that almost 10 gramms less.

2500C is sweet! Considering what people pay for them nowadays, I really wonder why Abu is not launching a BFS tuned round reel....all the while Shimano takes our $$ with a new Calcutta BFS
