It's pretty accurate. The low end on rods is always for putting force into the rod in order to meet that rating most times.

Welcome back, it's been too long!!! Quick question.. budget glass rod like the Dan Kung / Finetail Glass or the Trout signal for creeks and rivers throwing mainly minnows/plugs, spoons and spinners?
@HobieWanKenobi
@HobieWanKenobi Күн бұрын
Can't really go wrong any way. Small streams, the Dan Kung might be a touch too powerful. The Trout Signal will give you the most versatility of the three rods. If fishing for trout less than 8in, I'd do the Finetail Glass in the UL power

The kayak rentals are a must for the redear, because it's such a large body of water. The water is crystal clear too, so it's a sight fishing type of deal. Got to creep up on fish there, because they can see you. They'll hit crustacean lures and live worms. They're absolute pigs though. It's worth it even though it's so crazy hot.

Man, you are alive….nice to see you again, I really missed your contents. I have one small stream to fish for trout (brown trout). Very limited casting space (flip casts, underhand backhand casts) due to intense brush where I exclusively use 3 short rods (4.2). 2 of which are glass rods (Palms Egeria Native, Major Craft Finetail Stream Glass) and one of which is carbon (Tailwalk Troutia Feerique). Lure weight up to 4 gram => glass rod, 4 to 6 gram carbon rod. Lures mainly minnows…Rapala Ultralight, Duo Ryuki Series and Megabass Great Hunting Series. I absolutely love this kind of mountain stream-ish fishing! Hope you are well and we will see lots more from you! Greetings from Germany…

@HobieWanKenobi
@HobieWanKenobi 5 күн бұрын
The Zephyr is a decent reel for the money. If you put some aftermarket bearings in there, it might do slightly better. I would skip that though and jump to a different reel if you want to go lighter. Just focus on casting lures you will actually use and dont fall into the hype of casting micro lures you wont actually fish with.

@HobieWanKenobi

It is all relative. This price range is considered "budget" because many people associate trout BFS fishing with expensive gear. There are many decent rods at less cost than this one.

@@HobieWanKenobi "Just focus on casting lures you will actually use and dont fall into the hype of casting micro lures you wont actually fish with." the most based and arguably the most important statement someone can say about bfs fishing. theres people who consistently catch fish.... and theres people who make skunk reports of their .7g lures they were throwing. just something i noticed.

@HobieWanKenobi

@@HobieWanKenobi What about a cheaper Chinese glass rod of some kind, as if it breaks somehow not a lot of money wasted. I’m seeking that type of precision casting under overhanging brush etc. as you perform on those mountain streams. Great Video!!! I am really curious about the ML (~1/8-1/2oz) range of casting rods and what reels to pair with them. This range seems to be the bridge between the BFS and standard bait casting gear. I already have a ML spinning setup, but would like an ML baitcasting set up. There are a number of BFS rods AND standard baitcasting rods offered in this range (1/8-1/2oz). What exactly is the difference? The only thing I can think of (other than marketing) is that the BFS rods often have micro guides. At what line size and lure weight does a BFS specific rod and reel make sense, and why? If one is in the grey area of line and lure weight/size, what factors should sway you towards a BFS and non-BFS rod/reel. I live in the Chesapeake Bay area and do a mixture of inshore and freshwater fishing, so I need a versatile ML casting setup. Any thoughts about rod and reel selection for a ML casting setup? Thanks so much for the great content!
@HobieWanKenobi
@HobieWanKenobi 5 күн бұрын
I think recent additions to BFS is a lot of marketing. There are quite a few ML rods out there that arent BFS rods that do quite well for finesse fishing. BFS reels definitely will help take advantage of the ML rid for all it can. Line capacity is is biggest factor with BFS reels. If the reel can hold enough line and you are casting 3/8oz and below, BFS reels will help. Most inshore anglers use braid anyway so, factor that into the line capacity for a BFS reel. Most BFS reels hold 50m of 8lb mono for your reference. There are saltwater BFS reels such as the Shimano SLX BFS and the Daiwa Gekabijin AIR TW. Cashion has an inshore BFS rod I havent used.

So I just discovered digitaka and I am looking to get a Stella FK 2500 but something I noticed is that all of their 2500 options are shallow spool. Do they not have non shallow spool Stella FK’s in JDM models or is it just that they don’t have any in stock?
@HobieWanKenobi
@HobieWanKenobi 5 күн бұрын
Most mid to high level JDM spinning reels have a shallow version. The arbor of the spool is shallower to still give the cast casting performance of a larger spool but, with less line capacity. I am not sure from model to model with reels have a shallow spool.
