Just a heads up -- Ted from Aputure mentioned that the cracking mount was a defect in the preproduction models and that the production version has a replaced piece at the base so it won't break like this.

Shape and intensity of light depends on dishes included in the box. 200d dish is designed that way but there are differences when other modifiers are applied

To accent my 300d mkii (w/ Lightdome 2) I plan on purchasing two 200d with two Aputure spotlight mounts. I've always wanted to have more control with my accent/fill lights but the cost of two 120d's wasn't worth the cost. These new Amaran lights changes everything, I don't even have to worry about the plastic lock snapping off because it just floats on the back of the two spotlight mounts! And all this for a little over the cost of 1. ore 300d mkii, absolutely incredible how far and affordable Aputure has brought us.

Its due to the new bowens reflector. If you replace it with the old styled one that is even inside you get an even fall off

I think this is GREAT for Aputure and all aspiring creators on their way, but I know that the Godox SL150 II is the same price and brighter. I shoot music videos so I would actually prefer the effects but I’m so used to not having them now.

That beauty dish focuses the light to the center. If you used the beauty dish from the 300Dii you would notice a difference in evenness of the light.

It is not noticeably louder than the 300d ii. For us it’s not going to be an issue for audio.

Hmmm… good question. The 200x will give you more options with color temp… but the other option gives you more power. Tough choice honestly

Good question! The sound noise we negligible and not worth including in the video for that reason. I’m confident it won’t be an issue. However, the noise is a little louder than our 300dii. Not enough to be an issue though.

One thing that dslrvideoshooter brought up was the fact that the hyper reflector was causing that bad hot spot. Did you encounter any fan noise issues with the 200d like weird tone or just loud? These things look absolutely baller and I’m sure a lot of streamers are going to get their hands on them.

Switch the dome in the 200d. They changed the way their new dome throws light leaves a bigger hotspot in the middle than the old style.

these lights will work for 99% of the people who need stationary/persistent lighting... for $2-300, these are a GREAT deal given their strenght and color. Been setting up/speccing lighting for over a decade professionally, and while these are no "hollywood production quality", these are amazing in their own right and will be perfect for most. No need to overbuy equipment as many seem to. One word of warning on the "200" model... that fan is AWFUL. it kicks in and can cause a fair amount of noise in your shot. The "100" is an absolute dream for inexpensive and quality lighting....
