If you're thinking of getting a racket stringer, watch this.
The two machines up for comparison are the Klippermate and the Penta Premium 3600. The Klippermate is the cheaper model, and it comes with a lifetime warranty, but the machine has it's downsides, namely, a problematic mounting system and less-convenient floating clamps. The Penta Premium 3600 starts at $315, but that extra $75 includes a superior 6-point mounting system and upgraded "fixed" style clamps. The model shown here is equipped with a Wise 2086 electronic tension head ($871.44). This unit does the work of tensioning your string as you work on other parts of the racket, a major time saver!
Note: These machines only ship from England, and shipping costs will range from $80 -150, depending on the model of machine. However, even with these added costs, the Penta Premium 3600 easily comes in at hundreds of dollars less than the domestic equivalents from Gamma and Tourna, plus their modularity make them easily upgradeable to an electric tensioner and/or a stand without needing to buy a new machine, saving you even more money.

Been using Klippermate drop weight for 25+ years now, it still works like new in 2021 and zero problems stringing multiple 15-20 years old racquets. Highly recommend Klippermate!

No it’s not. They clamps don’t hold. They pinch the string too much. And the tension pill is not accurate

Ive used a six point electric machine and a two point drop weight machine, and I would say that the biggest pain point is just dealing with floating clamps, even more so than the tensioner

Love your vids! Could you do a video about racquet balance and how it impacts your forehand stroke? Like - Federer uses a very head light balance and Nadal uses an almost equally balanced racquet and they both have great forehands.

As of current September 2023 - Klippermate is costing $289.00 and Penta Premium 3600 is $599.00 that's $310.00, a significant difference in price. Sure the Penta is nice but the difference in price can get me two nice tennis racquets. I've been using the Klippermate for years, takes me 30 minutes going nice and easy. It is very accurate and built well. Clamps work perfectly, I've never damaged any type of string them. I highly recommend the Klippermate. Now if $310.00 is a drop in the bucket for you, then go for it.

Hmm...I didn’t think about how the stress of the 2 point mounting system would eventually weaken the frame. But I bought my Klippermate back in 2007 but it’s been good enough for me. I wish KZbin was as big as it was back then and I would have definitely considered a different stringer.

@@K4R3N not sure. I don’t really string that many racquets. I would buy but the one mentioned in this video if I could start over. The 6 point mounting system would make life easier.

Thinking that I could add the Wise electric tensioner to my Klippermate, if I begin stringing rackets for other people. I don't know if the drop weight is bolted on or welded, but either way I am pretty handy with metals and can adapt the base to accept the electric tensioner.

Most people aren’t stringing at 70+lbs nowadays so warping from a two point mounting system is really not happening nowadays
@gravitytennis
@gravitytennis 3 жыл бұрын
Having strung on 2 point and six point mounts, I definitely observed warping during stringing the mains. This is a natural consequence of applying string tension along the vertical plane without reinforcing the horizontal. If you string the crosses soon after, the frame rebalances, but over the longterm the frames integrity may suffer.
@bengray5013
@bengray5013 3 жыл бұрын
@@gravitytennis did you really observe that though? As for frame structure integrity dropping, well that occurs naturally through normal playing...

@@bengray5013 thank you for the reassurance! I'm debating on a Klippermate as a casual player and won't string more than 55 pounds (mostly 48-52!). Looks like the two-point stringing won't be significant for me
@Dasato123
@Dasato123 Жыл бұрын
But it should also be remembered that rackets no longer weigh 12-13 ounces anymore. 9-11 ounce racket weights mean less structural material. Today’s rackets depend more on their beam shape for stiffness and strength. This makes it very unlikely that they are as strong as old school beams when it comes to dealing with stress forces that are applied from directions they are not designed to specifically counter. When stringing a racket a big problem is that the forces are unbalanced until the string job is completed. Having more mounting points supports the frame until a balance of forces that the frame was designed to handle is reestablished.

My Klippermate is wonderful. The "problem" he says of frame distortion is not a genuine problem.
@gravitytennis
@gravitytennis Жыл бұрын
I looked into this a bit, and you may be right, though I would add you have to be vigilant about cleaning the clamps, or adding some tacky material in-between, as the racket tends to slip during stringing the crosses, and the amount of force required to prevent this can be damaging to the frame
@toddvolker2525
@toddvolker2525 Жыл бұрын
@@gravitytennis The Prince Neos is a two-mount and an industry standard. You're on spot with making sure the clamps holding the racquet in place need leather facings---older models with simple plastic ones might allow sliding much more easier---and it would take screwing down the mount more. Mine came with the leather padding in contact with the frame at the top and bottom of the racquet face, so it all seems to work.
@gravitytennis
@gravitytennis Жыл бұрын
@@toddvolker2525 I imagine leather would be a big help, and your point about the Neo is well taken, but also keep in mind that the Neo is a much more sophisticated and industrial mounting system. The screw on Klippermate clamps do not distribute pressure evenly at all. It puts a lot of pressure on a very small part of the racket frame. Leather would help with this but I'd still be careful.

@@gravitytennis Never had trouble, never harmed a frame. Theoretically, though, what you say might make a difference, but in practical terms, no.
