My uni teachers are rubbish. (Okay thats not always true I've had 20% of amazing tuturs) I don't know where on earth they get their phd from they can't answer a simple business question. Usually these dodgy tutors in my uni are from india, suffice to say the students and these teachers dont vibe. Except for the brown nosers... Anyway I can understand you. You're clear and precise, and I always come to you for educational nurture.

Hello, I am a little confused on whether the formula for variance analysis is "actual figure - budgeted figure" or "budgeted figure - actual figure". Someone told me I can use either way, if that is the case, for example, I would get "50 - 20 = 30" or "20 - 50 = -30". How would I know if the variance is either favourable or adverse?
@logen50598 ай бұрын
It depends on if it’s sales or if it’s costs. If sales then actual being bigger than budget would be favourable because you’ve sold more than you expected but if it’s costs then that’s adverse because you’ve actually spent more than budgeted

Really helpful! Quick question, what would be an example of an unexpected event in the business that would lead to unbudgeted costs?
