Hullo, Lucy! Thank you for sharing these. I was gifted a lovely set of Neocolor IIs but often hesitate to use them as they feel too "precious" to use up. Which is silly, isn't it? I've an alternative to suggest, if you don't mind? They are the Lyra Water-soluble Wax Crayons. They are approx 1/3 the price of the Neos, come in large sets and are on Amazon. I've used them quite a lot in my art and colouring books and they work a treat. I will sometimes use Faber Castell Gelatos, though they are often pricey as well. And while they are gorgeous, the effects they give aren't quite the same. I think the Lyra work the best for me as a sub so far, but I will definitely give these ones you've got a go. Royal Talens Art Creation water-soluble oil pastels. I have a set of 36, got them from our local supermarket Carrefour and I think I paid around 14 euros.

Lucy, those remind me of the consistency of gelatos. When I bought budget friendly I got Sargent Arts Artist Quality Premium Watercolor Crayons 36 in a box is $26 on Amazon. Also 24 box is $14. I jave been very pleased with them. Like you I have been collecting Neo 2's through one by one open stock purchases from Jacksons.

I had these recently as a pressie and love them for colouring the paper flowers I make. As I am rubbish with ink techniques these give me a lovely result with applying the crayon to a sponge and lightly smooshing. A little goes a very long way. They will complement my Gellato's and Neo's. Thanks for showing how you used them.

Over time I got most of the Neocolor 2 colors. They are worth it. 1st you can buy open stock and they last forever. I cut a chunk off and put in full pans. They blend well and I just love everything about them. In the US at Blick they are 2.25 per crayon so easy to collect the best.

They seem like. Lot of the gel crayons. Most of them can be done with water or blended dry with your finger. These seem really cool. Thanks for sharing

In America options include: LYRA Aquacolor, Faber-Castell Watercolor Crayons, and Sargent art. There are also gel crayons. I think Lyra is the best choice we have over here.

In America, we have a good cheap alternative from KingArt brand. They blend well with a finger as well which I was wondering about on your Wachskeiden's but I'm guessing they would. The larger caps would be easier to keep track of than expensive Gelatos or Neos.

I bought 36 Myungo water-soluble crayons in Canada for $30.00. They are harder but the colors are brighter. They are wrapped in paper, so there is no plastic

Oh those do look nice and remind me of gelotoes also! I was fortunate to find a set of 10 neocolor II on sale for $10 @ Walmart.com ( US store). But then waited for them to go on sale on Amazon and bought a bigger set! They are an investment... but will probably last a lifetime.. unless your using them constantly! TFS!😉😊

Hello my lovely, good value for the price. Yes, Neos are expensive. For the set of 84 one art shop is asking close to $600.00 NZ dollars. The cheapest small set is close to $60.00. So I stick to buying the singles between $3.50 and $4.90. You certainly produced a great alternative. I hope I can find the on amazon and that they ship to NZ.

The colour range is great, they’re more affordable, they come in a nice tin and they were so good for me to try before committing to paying the higher price for neos! They really are very similar to neos, I still use them along with my neos because they’re great and easy to use, they’re a little smaller but wider than the neos are they’re shaped more like a classic crayola crayons. xx
