Those creatology crayons are real outliers; vibrant colors, low dust, low smearing, and one of the cheapest in price. I'd say for a kid's crayon (or if you're into adult coloring books), they're probably your best option.

As a young child I was always given crayola, but was jealous of the kids with cheaper brands like play day and rose art because they had that really waxy transparent feel… they colored smoother, and didn’t make sound when you colored. Weirdly enough we busted out some air dry clay the other weekend to make Christmas ornaments and I was fully expecting him to try for a few minutes and then bow out because of the slimy texture when you add water to it but he really got stuck in! I mentioned my initial reservations to him and he said it's definitely not his favourite sensation but he was enjoying the craft so much that it made it less noticeable. I work with polymer clay and he has thoroughly enjoyed doing that with me before which is why I gave the air dry one a try.

The Stockmar crayon blocks are actually not really for artists. They are used in kindergartens and schools a lot, especially in more alternative forms of those (like Montessori nusery school or Waldorf school). The block shape makes it especially easy for smaller children to grab them. The base is made from beeswax and all art supplies by Stockmar are, to my knowledge, non-toxic and ecologically friendly :) In Germany you can get the set of 8 blocks for about 9,50 $.

@infamoussphere7228
@infamoussphere7228 3 жыл бұрын
I think it just comes from the French word for "pencil". In Canada they call coloured pencils "pencil crayons" which might come from the fact that coloured pencils would have pencil and crayon on the packages because of the bilingual packaging. Funnily enough I did wonder what the French did in regards to tampons and pads because the word for tampon literally means "pad" in French - like, you can get "tampon pour aquarelle" which is a pad of watercolour paper, so I wondered what they called pads if the word tampon already means pad - turns out it's something like "serviettes hygienique." And tampon is "tampon" but you know from the context.

With all your crayon vids, you're going to have the companies rethink their formula to decrease their dust and adjust the color accuracy for better representation. Similar to how Jazza's marker and liner videos had their makers redo some of their manufacturing like Spectrum Noir did for their alcohol marker's brush nib. Always nice to see your enthusiasm on making art with what some might think as "kid's supplies" or "cheap supplies" as with several other art content creators have done. I grew up with the Stockmar Crayons. Part of the reason they are so expensive is because Stockmar uses beeswax for the crayons. The crayons easily get dirty from the other crayons in the set, and when you draw with them, the little bits of the other crayon colors will smear on the paper, so I use the black tool to clean the crayons. Also-the crayons (both block and stick) do not break, no matter how hard you push, because they are very thick.

The only reason why Crayola crayons were so dusty is because you pushed too hard on the crayon. If you used less pressure, there will be little to no dusting. Crayola is the only brand of crayons I'll use now because it has the best pigmentation and even with lighter pressure, it has less dusting and it doesn't leave heavy wax blots either. Crayola is also very easy to blend with when using lighter pressure and I can also easily build up multiple layers with lighter pressure. Crayola was my go-to brand for crayons, markers, colored pencils, etc. when I was a kid. I used to Cra-Z-Art but honestly, they're crayons just suck due to less pigmentation and heavy wax blots even with lighter pressure so I ended up giving the Cra-Z-Art crayons to people who are less fortunate in my town. As an adult artist now, I still like Crayola (literally anything with Crayola) if I'm making stuff with kids and I also use more professional art brands like Prismacolor, Faber-Castell, etc. for my own artwork. I've never had regrets from Crayola.

This was so fascinating to see the differences! I’m from germany and when I was in elementary school I had the stockmar crayon sticks and here they are not so expensive. I loved to make colorful pages and cover them with the black crayon to then scratch the black away to reveal the colors underneath

Hullo Kasey, sweet lil testing video! I did see a lot of comments about CaranD’ache brand, they are more famous for the neocolor II’s which are basically watercolors! They do have original Neocolor sticks that are a regular wax crayon, I have never tried them. I hope you have a chance before the end of year of the crayon ends! You might have a good video just grabbing footage from your crayon videos this year a “best of” clips video rather showing the crayons in real world use! Actually creating Art! You are truly inspirational and such a gifted young lady. I have enjoyed watching your videos for quite some time. Thank you for sharing your art journey with everyone.

I am a profesional artist and you are right, I am going to buy those Stockmar because I am sure I can create amazing backgrounds with them! Also Crayola is a must because despite the dust the vibrance is something that for the price most brands can't offer. Ooly seems to me the winner in your list! I think the tool is to scratch the crayons from your artwork to create amazing textures and details!

I grew up playing with Maped crayons - we didn't have Crayola where I was from and the Maped pack I got was a gift from my cousin who lived in the capital (I lived in another city). They were definitely one of the first art supplies I used (along with coloured pencils). Good to know they're faring well over the years. Year of the Crayon made me extremely nostalgic for those days scribbling on paper as a kid, even though I don't use crayons anymore (and not even that often as a kid). Gonna miss it.

First of all I really enjoy your testing videos! Secondly you unlocked a memory for me when you tried the Stockmar crayons, they are kindergarten type crayons and I vividly remember them now. I think they are so expensive because its an imported product? here you can buy them for half the price (same with the staedler and faber-castell tbh)

Now come on! You tested all these wax crayons and you did not finish the test with the Neocolors? No! They are amazing. But kids crayons can be great fun, too. I have a set of Faber Castell crayons, not the erasable ones that you tested but just their regular triangular ones, and they are pretty good and smell amazingly beeswaxy, even though I have no clue whether they actually contain any of that. When I feel unable to really do anything, but still really want to get something done, I like grabbing my crayons and it is like *the* most motivating thing. It's so easy to just flow along wit crayons and create whatever, particularly with just regular kids crayons because they just feel playful and so not serious. Everyone who loves to do art should have a set of crayons for these moments where it's just so difficult to get into the flow.

I was waiting for it but you missed one famous art brand... Caran d'Ache also makes crayons! Water resistent and water soluble versions. They are supposed to be very nice. (Okay as I know you are not into coloured pencils so much, I guess you are not familiar with the brand.) If you can get hold of those, you could try them at the end of the "year of crayon". And an addition to this test: you could have make a column for "how many colours are available in total". I'm sure some of them have also bigger packs. Just a thought.

I love creating artworks using crayons! Honestly crayola is the only brand I use because the quality is so high compared to the price, and they have a wide variety of colors, which is not necessary, but a bonus. They also are really solid and not too oily or waxy, so layering is smooth and the different layers dont fight eachother lol

Weeee renmember when I asked you about the stockmar beeswax blocks? They are my absolute favorite drawing material for the last few years! So- am here! Exciting! I am TWO YEARS LATE - So with that said I now have comment, you use them a little differently than stick crayons(they have them in chubby sticks shape too), you use them super gently and they would be transparent and will blend super smoothly. It feels technically a bit like using chalk pastel in a block waxy form, while being on the transparent side (similar opacity to watercolor, you would work in layers. I only have shades of red, yellow and blue and I make everything with those.), look up what some people do with it- the technique is super weird to memorize at first but it gets really satisfying when you get into a flow.

So I looked for RoseArt crayons here in the UK and discovered this announcement from January 2021- Cra-Z-Art's Rosen brings RoseArt brand back under family control in deal with Mattel. The Cra-Z-Art brand of arts and crafts supplies, owned by Randolph-based LaRose Industries LLC, has acquired Mattel's Arts, Crafts, Stationery business, including its RoseArt brand, it announced Thursday. So it looks like Cra-Z-Art *is* RoseArt? Or they are owned by the same company at least 🤷🏻‍♀️

Melissa and Doug crayons are shaped like triangles and extra hard to prompts proper grip in toddlers of pens and pencils later in development! My baby sisters use them all the time. They’re meant to be a firm wax so they don’t break easily like a more soft wax so they can survive toddlers. Artist grade? Nope. Baby grade? Yup!

Hi there! I think, Stockmayr is a German or Austrian brand. The scraper is for special effects. You do it like this: put down a very light color. Yellow would be great. Than layer orange on top of it. I mean, DIRECTLY on top. Same spot. Then red, blue, green, purple...and then there hopefully is a black one in the set. That is the last layer. Then you scrape shapes or outlines with a different amount of pressure and reveal the different colors laying underneath. Like these scrape pads that are allblsck and you have to follow the lines... Have fun!!! ...now I have to get these myself...had mine about 35 years ago🤣👍🏻
