Check out the full gear list 👉 www.gooutdoors...
Here’s a run through my budget wild camping gear list for 2023. It includes a 2 man tent, inflatable sleeping mat, sleeping bag, rucksack, and a complete stove set.
I’ll also show you an option to reduce the overall cost by £25, and a couple of luxury extras you might want to add in that take the full set up to £170.
This is a budget setup designed for those looking to get into wild camping without spending a fortune. Though it is perfectly suitable for getting started, there are some items you may want to swap out or upgrade as you get more into the hobby.
Any questions drop me a comment!
Thanks for watching! Ben 🤓

Helpful and informative vid. Alternative to cooking gear is a Thermos food flask, approx £17 for the 480ml one. Experimented against the clock with temp probe, and it keeps something like made-up noodles nice and hot for about 5 hours. Preheat it with boiling water for a few minutes first. Built in folding spoon inside the lid, good bit of kit. Thanks for this helpful content.

One small omission...... maybe a light source of some sort (Though I expect most folk will have a torch lying around the house)
@tonysutton6559
@tonysutton6559 Жыл бұрын
It depends how much light that you want, your phone will do if it's only for emergencies (There's also a light on my powerbank) but you can buy and light plus batteries for the grand total of £2 from the £1 Shop if you want more. As it is, I always have a cheap torch in my car, overnight toiletry bag and in my bedside cabinet for emergencies. There's another in my wet weather dog walking coat pocket (for cleaning up after them in winter, not because I'm scared of the dark - honest) and probably some more in that kitchen drawer where people shove things that they might need sometime.😂

This is great, good starting point for people who are a bit shy of the costs. It would be great to see part 2..then 3, where you take the same spreadsheet and upgrade each piece and see what things look like. It's good to focus on the "doing" rather than the "buying". Good luck with the subs.

I do believe the way forward is to buy decent kit but second hand. Often people buy tents etc, use them once and decide it's not a good fit. I'd much rather do that than buy 'budget' gear. The better stuff will also resell if you decide its not for you.

Good vid👍Nothing wrong with a Eurohike tent for a bit of basic wildcamping. I've got an old one that I still use to this day. As with most hobbies & pastimes, wildcamping/hiking etc can get silly in terms of costs. No need to break the bank, especially when starting out

EXCELLENT video showing that wild camping is accessible for most people - with some careful spending. Don’t need top brands when starting at all. Also good advice Ben about taking sandwiches with you for the first one. Then don’t need to even think about cooking. Another thought to add to that is to bring a flask of hot water and just make up a hot drink on arrival when settling in to surroundings. Top vid sir. Thanks - Ben (might sub)…👊🏼🤓

If you're skipping the cooking it's cheaper to make your own sandwiches (or get your wife/girlfriend to make them) and replace the cookset and stove with a flask of tea or coffee so that you still get a hot drink at night and a warm one in the morning.

Wonder anyone will follow what I did for my first wild camp? 31 October just off the summit of Pendle Hill by the wall. Four or five of us - A Level students so aged17/18 - with sleeping bags in our college bags, a bit of plastic to sleep on, and a bit of plastic with some pegs to provide shelter. No rain so we didn't need to overhead plastic sheet but it was a bit chilly. We all survived to be told off by the ranger in Barley car park the following morning.

Be very careful with a sleeping mat with no R value - prioritise this in your budget and sacrifice it elsewhere if need be 👍🏻 as you say adding a insulated foil mat to the inflatable is a quick and cheap way to stay comfy in single figures, gives you something to sit around on too
