Budget Wildlife Lens - RMC Tokina 400mm f/5.6

Got mine at the flea market for only 30 bucks. Pretty impressed with the quality of the images on my Sony A7ii. And I just love the build quality of those old lenses

Just got one of these on KEH for my Nikon for like $40. Loving it so far. They rated it "ugly" but it came in great shape and works great. I got it with a 2X adapter, mostly for moon shots and deep sky objects at night. For Wildlife I still stick with my Nikkor 70-300 for now.

Got this lens over a year ago on a whim. Have yet to shoot photos with it, this video was a good motivation for me. Might try for some moon shots

Nice review! I shoot the similar Tokina 300in f5.6 and find the same results. Capable of making great shots, many misses, but for under $100, alot of fun!

Thanks for your good video, I just saw one lens like this with an Olympus OM mount and I am thinking to give it a try for astrophotography. I am wondering how it is with complete open aperture f:5,6 for this kind of use.

There's not much info about this lens online, so cheers for taking the time doing this review. If I may ask: Do you experience some looseness between with the adapter? I got myself a cheap FD to Fuji X-adapter on ebay, and although it works, there is significant backlash between the lens mount and the adapter.

I have Tokina RMC 400mm with green text. I get too blurry pictures, my Vivitar zoom 75-300mm 4.5-5.6 is much better, anyone know the Tokina is faulty or is it not so good lens?

Do you still have this lens? I just got one. Is there any looseness in the join between the Aperture DoF markings and distance markings? Mine wobbles just a touch, I can't tell if that's normal or it's damaged

You'd probably want something shorter for sports photography. Something like a Takumar 200mm f4.
