Man I really enjoyed this generation of consoles. in my opinion I feel that this was when 3D gaming really became a great thing. There was a level of polish and realistic graphics that for me anyways made me feel like I was in another world. I truly felt emersion while gaming I'd never felt before. The textures were might higher quality, better polygon count, actual reflections, shadows, lighting, it was the real deal. I remember when I first played Gran Turismo 3 which was my first time playing a next generation game, my Dad and I were BLOWN away. Anyways, thanks for the nostalgia, I loved this generation of gaming and it's very important to me. Great video!

Dreamcast was super efficient for what it was. It took awhile before developers got the ps2 running up to its potential, and before they did it was tough to look at something like Tekken Tag Tournament running next to Soul Calibur, because it made you wonder if the ps2 wasn't quite as powerful as we'd been led to believe. Then GT3 Aspec and SH2 came out and we sadly realized that our old friend the Dreamcast had finally been overtaken in the visuals department. That first batch of ps2 games definitely didn't meet expectations though!

Nice video! Can you also do one for the Dreamcast? Such a waste it died too early before any devs tapped its full potential. Shenmue 1&2, DOA 2, and Soulcalibur are the only games I know that looked really good on it. It also had a custom Windows CE which some devs took advantage of

I fucking LOVE Phantom Crash! Me and my kid brother played hundreds of hours of that game. Literally nobody has heard of it unfortunately. I felt like I was the only person that knew about it. It had an amazing soundtrack, one that I listen to even to this day and I never listen to VG OSTs. I am so happy to hear you talk about it and I hope you do make a video on it.

I effing love that game. And they never added it to backwards compatibility for Xbox 360 or Xbox One AFAIK, so it can only be played on the original Xbox.
@darknespker5 жыл бұрын
@@takeshi7 Yup. I wish they made a second part for it for the 360. The graphics blew me away considering how old the game was and the hardware it was running on.

I soft modded my Xbox many years ago and had tons of fun with it. Custom main menu with background music, web browser, a 250gb hard drive with tons of games and emulators, XBMC. I even had mods for Halo. One was shooting bouncy plasma grenades. I also had Quake 3 Arena. One of my fondest memories was playing Halo 1 and Rainbow Six 3 & Rainbow Six 3: Black Arrow online using Gamespy & Xbox Connect. Yes, thanks to tunneling software you could play Halo 1 online on the Xbox.

I guess that explains how Team Ninja got their games to look so amazing! Also, I would love to see more console videos especially since so many of them had interesting aspects, like the Dreamcast being able to run Windows CE, the Gamecube's PowerPC cpu, the PS2 using original PS1 cpu as an IO controller, or the Saturn's quad based gpu, and that's just scratching the surface!

great video, definetly a blast from the past! one minor correction: when i last messed with the original xbox, the only version of linux available for it was called xdsl (or damn small linux), and it ran suprisingly well. however, when you load the hacked gamesave with the buffer overrun exploit (mechassault) the title is "run linux" from within the game, but it's actually evox, the original homebrew dashboard, and not "linux". anyways... keep up the good work! i've been watching all of your videos.

I remember I immediately started to save my money for an Xbox when I was a teenager after seeing a demo of Halo CE at Gamestock 2001. It blew my mind! Good memories... I would love to go back in time and relive a few gaming moments as a kid that had a big impact on me, like playing Halo CE, Metroid Prime, Metal Gear Solid 1 and 2, Resident Evil Code Veronica on Dreamcast, Silent Hill 2 on PS2, and The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess on Wii. Sure I can replay those games now, but that "awe and wonder" and initial first impression that I got as a kid just can't quite be replicated now that I'm an adult.

I'd love to see a full video on the hl2 xbox port. I remember that I was really impressed by it, but starting in about 2010 and going until now, I've only heard people mention it in passing, as being very unnecessary and compromised, released right before the 360 came out. Still, even compared to the orange box version on the 360, it isn't too bad, in my opinion, really playable, and it looks fantastic.
