Hi Alex,, I knew it was a solvent of some sort. It didn’t seem to have a negative affect on the first patch I did way back on the first day of my return journey. That patch lasted the life of the tyre and must have covered about 3,000km. Maybe I was just lucky. I’ll take it on board and maybe make changes for the future. Thanks for watching.

Excellent video Steve, got to love the tubeless tyres, I put a small piece of pipe about 10mm diameter through a rear tyre, it cut a perfect hole like a wad punch, couldn't seal the damn thing and had no spare or tube. The plugs just wouldn't hold, luckily I was on the way home and only about 50k's out so managed to get a mate to pick me up with a trailer, now I carry heavy duty tubes just in case, plug it and then put the tube in is my plan but thankfully never had to do that yet. Excellent video! Not many riders would have the confidence, nor the know-how, to ride solo across the middle of Oz like that! interesting too you found one road has been sealed in the three year interim. BTW I dont think youre crazy burying your radio, it deserved the honour. However burying it where you did and marking it with a cross invited curious passers-by (grave robbers?) to unearth it. I often buried coins beside the road in my travels and marked their position with a GPS, often in quite isolated sections of road. You never know, they might lay there undisturbed for centuries before giving someone a bit of joy.

Yeah, I always have paper maps as a back up in case the technology fails. Being ex army, it’s all about anticipation and confirmation when it comes to Navigation. I try and avoid vids on what I do or carry because I don’t wanna make vids that are ‘all about me’ although they are all about me lol. There are enough guys on KZbin who are too willing to give their insight on what they carry and how they prepare. I guess I’m concerned about turning viewers off my Channel. I have started to share a bit of knowledge to young Grasshoppers (as you would have noticed) but that’s only because I know there is a bit of experience lacking with some Adventure Riders. Thanks for your continued support, watch this space.

Hi Steve, I'm no expert. Its a cheap mic fitted with a small piece of dead cat to reduce wind noise. It is placed just inside the helmet at mouth level to the front. I have to play around a lot during Post Production to adjust volumes...PITA. The Camera is fitted with an adapter. I dont invest heavily with expensive gear cause it gets knocked around a lot. @mongreldogproductions
@mongreldogproductions 3 жыл бұрын
It’s a 30 litre (8 US Gal) tank fitted to this bike, a R1200 GSA. On the open road as long as you sit on under 100 mph (60mph) you should get about 600 km to a tank (370 miles). I need every bit of fuel out here in Oz. Fuel stops can be few and far between. Thanks for watching.

Hi Steve I've been watching your channel for a while now and have a question about the bike you ride. I'm looking at purchasing a GS and was wondering with the distance you travel would you recommend a GS adventure or the standard GS mainly for fuel between stops. Thanks Carl
@mongreldogproductions
@mongreldogproductions 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Carl, I do enjoy riding the GSA. The perfect bike (IMO) for Outback travel. I leaned toward the GSA for the added fuel range but nobody says you have to ’fill ’er up’ every time. On some rides, in certain conditions, I will only fill up with enough fuel to get me to the next stop. Every litre of fuel is an extra kg of weight. When doing some of the Safari’s the conditions can get a bit snotty. If I only need a range of 250km then I’ll only fill up with enough fuel to get me there (plus a bit more to allow for contingencies). I think the GSA has slightly more suspension travel (but don’t quote me). Good luck either way you go. Thanks for watching.

Hi Steve, can I ask how many kms do you get on average out of tank. Looking at buying latest 1250.. Regards George Vass
@mongreldogproductions
@mongreldogproductions Жыл бұрын
Too many variables. Mine is a GSA (30 litre tank). If I have to be mindful of fuel consumption and loaded in good conditions (good high speed gravel) I average around 5.6 litres/ 100 km (around 500km to a tank). If I am wanting to get somewhere in a hurry (110-120kph) then I would work on about 450 to a tank. If you ride the bike conservatively you could probably get 600km out of a tank in good conditions….and don’t get me started about head winds. 😀

Hi AD, most Permits are free, available online, are processed quickly (some are done in minutes) and not complicated. Some Permits are not being issued at the moment if they jeopardise some Communities, ie, Canning Stock route etc. if you look at a map of Oz (Hema) and see light brown areas that means it’s Native Title Land. Most roads and tracks thru there may require a Permit. Most roads and tracks that require permits will say ‘permit required’. Do a google search on ‘Permits for Outback Way’ and see what comes up. This is just one example. It’s quite simple. Good luck. www.outbackway.org.au/plan-your-trip/permits/

I guess you would never come across border police checking covid status & showing your reason for crossing borders? You should put up a list of must have items that you take with you on your trek's so that you keep yourself from getting stuck out in the middle of nowhere. I would love to travel over to Sydney from Perth across country but I wouldn't know where to start.

I object to the government trying to run our lives so I will obey the law but no more. The lady at the Uluru NP entrance has no authority to ask about, let alone see, permits and the G2G pass. I went through there in September and flatly refused to say anything other than I was not going into the park. She said she would call the police and I offered to do it for her. She eventually admitted she had no authority to stop me and I proceeded. The boarder was a bit of an anti-climax and the copper I spoke to at the Warburton roadhouse was not interested even though I am a Victorian. For the record I had current permits and G2G pass.

Hi Chris, I'll tow the line and comply where I can. Obtaining the Permits (to travel GCR) is no inconvenience and are free to obtain on line. The fact that i had them means i had trouble free access to the Park and avoided any confrontation. It would be an interesting test case to see if you could be Charged with Trespass without the Permits. I went thru the APY lands once without a Permit and was let off with a 'warning' by the Coppers there. I wont be going back to the APY Lands for fear of pushing my luck. Video of that trip is here. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJC9pomDm5mLZ68 The vid created a lot of discussion about 'stuff'. Ho, Ho, Ho!
