Sure, you could… but then you would be missing the point of the exercise. Remember that these are choreographed training forms designed to teach concepts and principles. It’s upon those various lessons that one could expect to develop a defensive “catalog” so to speak.

Wrestlers and judoka also practice kata or routines just like this. After you learn all the techniques, you know small techniques and their principles. Put all of them to your fighting is the key of martial arts. Even with wrestling, you cannot just 1 move and win everyone. You need to learn all the basics and strategies to know how to apply the techniques; and this is the first stage you have to get through, performing the move on human body. Since wrestlers don’t have any punching bag having the same body structure and reactions as real human, we practice on real people. Have fun 🎉
