SEAL Senior Chief Rob O'Neill wrote in his book "The Operator" that in BUD/S during Room Inspection he and his buddy decided to place cans of Copenhagen and candy bars on high window ledges and tops of dressers, where instructors would swipe their hands looking for sand :) Also in their dresser drawers they placed girl books opened to the perfect "spread". O'Neill said the Inspectors laughed, grabbed the cope and candy and passed them on inspection:) "Points for thinking outside the box, gentlemen" Awesome!

I learned that in the military. Waking up is the hardest part. I learned once your alarm goes off just step out of bed. There's a reason u set your alarm. 20 minutes after ur awake you will be thankful you woke up. This is relevant for life any your job that you work. Or school or anything. I remember my army room and locker inspections, they were ruthless you would be up all night ironing your uniforms and sorting your locker and bedspace only to have it all launched out the window and your room turned upside down. during training you will normally never pass an inspection, no matter how good it is they will always find dirt or dust somewhere.so don't stress too much on that kind of stuff.

According to what some SEAL dropouts told me, one female SEAL candidate broke her legs in Basic Orientation (BO) which is just the first three weeks of SEAL training, another female SEAL candidate broke her legs in BUD/S Prep (the school that prepares you for SEAL training) and a third female SEAL candidate got rolled back in BO for stress fractures. None of them made it. In November 2021, a woman made it to first phase of BUD/S (SEAL training) for the first time in history but she quit on day one after the first hour. It all just seems hopeless.

My kid did it the stupid way. 3.0 Michigan grad in economics. 27 ACT. Enlisted in DEP. trained for 5 months. 8:05 swim 95 push ups 19 pull ups 90 sit ups 9:50 run Offered a SEAL contract. They sent him back to MEPS for one last eye test. Remember, he’s in the Navy now. He failed depth perception. Got PRK. The head recruiter called him and said that they could not guarantee BUDS and offered to let him out of his DEP. He is now working in real eatate finance and has yet to have his eyes retested. Took the wind out of his sails after training hard and eyes being a disqualification. You can’t shoot what you can’t see I guess. He was a .290 hitter in HS baseball but that’s the rules.

From my perspective & experience if you want to build real grit & resilience get yourself a job as a brickys labourer (brick masons tenderer) - you'll be pushing heavy wheel barrows of bricks & mortar, lifting, shoveling and running on your feet all day long; and you'll be covered in sand & cement, and you'll be exposed to loud noise, the sun & the elements. It's training unto itself. Just my two cents.

i know someone in class 354 starting buds this coming monday and how it worked for him is right after great lakes boot camp he was sent to coronado and was there for about a month in holding expected to train on his own. then started buds orientation (which finishes this week for him.) btw, the last evolution in buds orientation that he had was land portage and he said it is the most difficult thing he's ever done so far but he didn't drop. he had a buddy that dropped (DOR) in class 353 in week two of buds because he re-injured an old injury. the buddy said because they (i guess people in nswc) liked him (his attitude i.e. positive) he was told to go do a specific regular navy job for x amount of time (after healing and getting in shape) and reapply. the person i know also had another buddy that quit in buds prep and was held at coronado for months after quitting. not sure why so long. my guess is that buddy #2 definitely is going to have to reapply in two plus years after having a regular navy job.

Not a SEAL never been to BUDS( I have worked with and trained along side SEALS when I served with SF) The Copenhagen and porn thing is a definite cheat code for inspections military wide but especially in SOCOM. You gotta make it something intresting that grabs attention. You have to remember( as this narrator has pointed out before) no matter what they tell you the instructors are on a relitively structured schedual. The longer you keep their attention on something else the less time they have to go digging for not so obvious shit. I had a Marine friend who used to have a blow up sex doll floating in his room for room inspections along with the stuff this guy already mentioned( copenhagen and porn). It was a different animal every time sheep , cow you name it. Yeh dude was genuinely off but it did the trick every time. I can remember a CSM Barracks inspection. I didnt even live in my Barracks room. I mostly lived with my fiance out on town( Nuremberg Germany). My roomate another older soldier like myself only lived there because his wife had not arrived yet. He went home on leave and I had just gotten married and so had mostly moved all but a few things out of the Barracks. I had naturally cleaned it real thouroughly and the only thing left was my tough box filled with porn and a real big commemerative Knife I got after my time with Special Forces that had the SF Patch and some other stuff engraved on it. I got it as a gift. This was usually kept in the Armory but I had retrieved it to move to my new house. I told the CSM I mostly moved out but he wanted to inspect anyway. What I didnt know is that my fridge was filled every usable space with beer. Like you could not squeeze a finger in from the bottom to the freezer. I didnt drink but my roomate had left it. We were allowed to have alchohol in the barracks but only within limits, like a case of beer or a bottle. The CSM asked " Where did all this beer come from?". I told him " From the Shopette Seargent Major". He asked if I was trying to be a smart ass. About that time my Platoon SGT who knew damn well I was a light weight that didnt drink stepped in and explained it belonged to my depressed drunk roomate who had left on leave. Then the CSM asked about the knife which I explained was a gift I was bringing from the Armory to my knew house. Then he opened up the porn stash and began perusing my collection and asked if this was a gift as well? About that time he was completely out of time and had to move on.

You have to take your hat off for any one that completed BUD/S and SQT to be a Seal . Being in the front leaning rest for damn three hours waiting on a damn room inspection to be completed can make you say F this. wheres that damn bell. and just think . this is just first phase. it doesn't get easier. not even on a seal team. Being a Seal or any asset in the SOF community is all about spirit and heart. You have to really want it badly to go and earn it.

Yo I’m about to turn 20. Was gonna join the military 2 years ago. Has always been a dream of my to just be a seal since I a Conscience and heard about them. I don’t agree with the vaccine so I refuse to get it and now I can’t be a seal. If I am to join I want to go straight to buds. Do you think I wait a couple years till maybe that law lifts or do I give up on my life long dream?

Just get a religious exception like the rest of us lmao. They have to honor it legally and then you don't have to get the shot. If you want to go SEAL plug in with the Navy warrior program (where u get some former SWCC/DIVER/EOD or even SEAL instructors) and get some accountability, it has been the biggest help for me. Spend more time running and in the pool then on KZbin and you'll be just fine. Also, assuming you are going enlisted you have to go to Basic, then Pre-BUDs (ramp up) for a few months then actual BUD/s. You can't just go straight into BUD/s

You’ll get a hell of a lot more shots in bootcamp. And plenty more if you make it, and end up deploying to other countries. If it’s mandatory now, I don’t see that changing. What’s your issue with this one? I’ve gotten 2 myself. I know that one of my former SEAL friends is very much against it. I don’t particularly understand why.

When I was in boot camp back in 91, I remember it was during basic, I forget what week it was, our company was in a classroom setting, and they have us watch a SEAL video. After the video, the trainer was standing to the side of the class room and the lights turned on, and asked" Now who wants to be a SEAL"? I recalled a few recruits raised their hand, and If I'm not mistaken, I didn't recall seeing them again, thinking that they went straight to training for SEAL.
