So, apparently the cover was by Iain McCaig - this was confirmed by Ian Livingstone (yes THAT Ian Livingstone) as he has the art on his wall!

One of my favourite artists, I met him at Fighting Fantasy Fest a couple of years back, he was so funny and interesting in his section of the talks (Every guest that talked was though to be fair) and he carried on talking to fans long long after he was on stage.

Runequest 2e was one of my first rpgs as well, along with SPI's Dragonquest, Bushido and Traveller. While I never grew to love it as much as you, I cannot dispute that it is one if the classics, deserving of the 9. And its direct descendant, Mythras, is what I am spending this weekend hacking into FGU's ancient Bushido as well :) Very nice review, thank you.

Runequest was one of my first RPGs , I actually had the box set version. This also reminded me another blast from the past, Griffin Mountain...

This was my version of RQ too, I saw the box in a games shop near my old secondary school in S. London. I saved my school lunch money up every day (unbeknown to my old man) until I could buy it, which I did. I fell in love with it right away, I always felt it was a "darker" game then basic D&D, which I also had (along with the Traveller black box). This was always my favorite, and a few years later I picked up Griffin mountain and Trollpack, and Big Rubble for it, I could never find the Pavis box set alas. Nice channel, thanks for the memories, I still have that original box on my shelf.

Chaosium have reprinted loads of the older material in book format in recent years - including Pavis.

Thanks for the review! Brings back a few memories. I also had the Judge Dredd one, still got all my comics too! Of course, you forgot to mention the most important thing about all of these games... the dungeon master! That was what made or broke these games for me. Luckily we had a friend who was completely obsessed and was so good with all the tables and dice, that his narrative never stopped. Happy times!

I agree, RQ, B/X D&D and Traveller are the foundation stones of all TTRPGs.

Eloquent as usual Bud. I too played 2nd Edition RQ and still have the boxed set and contents, although my rulebook is (a) battered and dog-eared (b) the brown 2 colour version. Like you, I have many strongly nostalgic memories of my time spent playing this.

The new Runequest's greatest strength is bring it back home to Glorantha as the setting.

Wait what was the issues with Detect Silver? I love the point you make about Greg Stafford living to see Runequest not just reunited with Glorantha but produced in such a beautiful way. I really struggled with the lack of the adventures that had been available prior to 3rd edition, you could feel the change, there was something missing that was often referenced or hinted at. Thank God they eventually did get round to producing them. It was frustrating because you had seen the vibrancy in White Dwarf adventures going all the way back to the hay day.
@BudsRPGreview2 жыл бұрын
There... was no issue with Detect Silver. It was simply that as we didn't really use Glorantha much, we didn't know what it was for - further exploration years later revealed that it was a spell for Lunars to find the sacred metal of the Red Goddess.
First RPG I purchased. That cover image isn't the original by Luise, it's Games Workshops only slant on the original. Here's the original, note the character does not sport the bikini - this one is much more RuneQuesty. 1.bp.blogspot.com/-2PNR0rzhEXM/VzaFw1NPqKI/AAAAAAAAglw/tT30nvKhQvI-KgrmQgev8ET0ibaaQnd8wCLcB/s1600/runequest2cover.jpg

So just to let you know, your video has caused me to go on a Runequest Quest, I’m trying to collect the editions and learn them. I tragically missed out on it when I was playing back in the 80s.

I will be reviewing RQG, but it will be for my Patrons first, chapter by chapter. I am currently doing the same with Masks of Nyarlathotep. It will get released to the public eventually, but only when I am finished.

That's not actually the Luise Perrenne cover (for that you have to get the US printing). Despite many years of searching, I've never found the name of the artist of the GW edition.

Apparently so. I was going off what it said on the inside of the book, as that says Luise Perrenne.

WEG Star Wars has had an astounding impact, defining the entire SW EU (until Disney reset it) such that all the books based themselves mostly off the RPG than just the movies. Also, game works really well, still, far better than the d20 or FFG systems. RuneQuest is one I've never had the chance to try, just stare longingly at.

Cuir bouilli is just hardened leather, it's in most rpgs
@BudsRPGreview4 жыл бұрын
If you could point me in the direction of other RPGs where it is actually called "cuir bouilli" that would be great.
@SonofSethoitae4 жыл бұрын
@@BudsRPGreview Well, like I said, any RPG with hardened leather armour technically has Cuir Bouilli. D&D has described its leather armour as "stiffened in boiling oil" since at least AD&D 2e, and the D&D Basic Rules Cyclopedia specifically calls leather armour "cuir bouilli". Tunnels and Trolls calls it "Cuirbouille," and the Palladium Compendium of Weapons, Armour, and Castles mentions "cuir bouille" as well. I'm sure there are others, especially once you get into specifically medieval historical games, but these are the ones I remember.
