Let's talk about the basic rules of Runequest Classic

We played original RuneQuest more than D&D because we liked the rules more. Your character felt more like your own and the skills leveling based on what you did made it so that your character was shaped by their adventures. Also, we just had a really big problem with D&Ds hit point system. As you level up in D&D you become easier to hit because your defense barely changes with level but attack does increase, yet you can take more axe blows to the head. So you feel like a meat sponge. In RuneQuest you get harder and harder to hit because you can parry and dodge better, yet you can still get just as injured by a hit. It just made so much more sense to our young brains.

Never played RQ but we did play a fair amount of Call of Cthulhu and Stormbringer. Finally moved to a homebrew D100 skill based system built around Aftermath. For me skilled based is a way better system.

RQ is going through a renaissance now, the new edition is gorgeous, as are the additional scenarios and flavour books (Red Book Of Magic is a visual treat). ... However the RQ classic line is pretty much all available as POD now and is still fantastic. Thankfully they are pretty much the same system and old scenarios are easily adapted. Enjoyed the video BTW.

I just got a copy of the Griffin Mountain POD from Chaosium--which is maybe the best POD book I've ever seen, and I do have a copy of the new Runquest rulebook, and it is an amazing looking book. I'm going to eventually pick up the bestiary and the Red Book of Magic as well.

Nice video....i run a greek-mythos style runequest hack for my campaign..... i like that there are are no levels and no classes, also bronze age is more open than medieval society.
