The RAF changed out the Lancaster main wheels on their RAF Lanc wheels with Handley Page Hasting wheels as they are the same wheel size, end the aircraft now uses these wheels and tires instead. There tyres are still manufactured (I think) by Dunlop in the UK.

I've been a Commercial Pilot for nearly 45 Years and it's just as exciting now as when I was 20 years old in learning how to fly. I had to scratch, scrimp and save for those hours just to solo. That Your Pop is an Aviator of the highest order and just now getting You in the cockpit is a labor of love. I pray You don't deprive Him of this because He's taking a lot of Fatherly Joy in this undertaking for You. He will teach You much to cultivate a passion I hope You complete to share with Him in this fourth quarter of His Life. In time I hope You remember Him as You pass on this privileged legacy You live and work in and are able to teach another Young Person, Son or Daughter what it is like to see the world through the Eyes of an Eagle....!

It's interesting that I have a problem with heights but not when i'm in an airplane. I'm an airplane and flight nut through and through and since my earliest memories and nightly dreams were filled with flying. I'm 65 now and regret not following my dreams, now I am not healthy enough to get a license . I did fly (steer) an ultralite seaplane for 1 1/2 hrs over a lake as well as went on a fam flight in a C 172 , both pilots asked if I had previous experience and commented they thought I was a natural, so much so that the pilot let me land the 172 with verbal instruction. Time of my life...... I lost my Dad a number of yrs ago and Mikey is lucky to share quality time with his father like this. Your a good son Mikey

I live in the uk and drive trains for my local railway museum. Whilst doing that a few years back l had this Lanc and the UK one fly right over at very low level one the way to my local airport. Will never see that again though often get the Uk one going over my house when it stops at the local airport one the way to various shows. Fantastic noise from those lovely engines.

To see & realise that it was because of the Plane like the Lancasters, Spitfires, Hurricanes, Mosquitoes, Mustangs etc & the brave Crews that Piloted them, they all are responsible in some way for the freedom we now, all enjoy. A bit of trivia : The Avro Lancaster has a very long bomb bay, and load capacity. At one stage in the war, the Lancaster was considered as the Allied bonber to deliver the A-Bomb over Imperial Japan.

I'm a single engine land guy but have over 2000 hours. Twice I flew with a group that uses Marcetti 350s which NATO uses to train their pilots. I got sick as a dog both times. Flying a few feet away from each other after hours/years of keeping separation was just too much for this guy. Neat airplane, fun to fly when off by one's self, but that formation stuff is just crazy.
@BigBlueJake2 жыл бұрын
That Lancaster is four P-51 Mustangs hitched together if you're trying to imagine the sound. Kind of a shame Joe is sour about old planes used for fun at airshows - that is what gives the impetus to keep them flying and keep fighting the bureaucrats that are trying to clip their wings. Love the Canadian Snowbirds - different sort of show compared to Thunderbirds and Blue Angels plus the pilots are friendly to all ages of autograph seekers instead of snubbing adults. Love the Younkin Beech B-18 - it does a heck of a night show too. Guilty as charged airshow nut with EAA Airventure Oshkosh (or Oshkosh Fly-In if you prefer) practically in my backyard.

What can I say that will benefit us? Listen, ask questions, listen and ask more questions. Be a witness to our elders. Our elders are who went before us. They don't have to be veterans of war, hot or cold. Aviators or land lubbers. Just ask them. Most men/people will say they were "just doing their job." Know our elders so that they can open their hearts, fears, hopes, limitations, aspirations. Most of our ancestors aren't heroes. They were just living their lives.
