I've just begun learning about value investing, and I've found that many good stocks are undervalued despite their intrinsic value. If you had $100,000 to create a strong investment portfolio, which stocks would you choose for better returns?
@garnold-l5p2 күн бұрын
I think a good investment portfolio should have three basic things: ETFs for diversification, dividend stocks for cash flow, and leading tech stocks. With your budget, it's a good idea to talk to a fiduciary financial advisor for expert advice.

Agreed, people often underestimate the role of financial advisors. Over 30 years of data reveal that those who work with advisors typically earn more than those who do it alone. I've been fortunate to work with one for 5 years now, resulting in a million portfolio.

Buffett’s warning is a wake-up call for many investors, especially retirees. He’s been vocal about the dangers of speculative bubbles and the importance of focusing on long-term value rather than short-term gains. For retirees, this means reconsidering exposure to high-risk stocks or funds and emphasizing stable investments, like dividend-paying stocks, Treasury securities, or even cash reserves.

In 22 I had the safety bond portion of my portfolio in BND. In my riskier equity portion I was heavy on VOO with a couple minor positions in individual stocks. I had about a 60/40 stocks to bnd. When the market went down my BND went down as well. Why did this happen? Currently my safety play is SGOV instead of BND but there is no long term upside only inflation protection. I would like to invest in bonds but I have lost faith in their ability to protect me from market corrections after 22. I'm currently sitting at 80% SGOV and 20% equity. Maybe a little more than 89% towards SGOV. I think the market is 20% overvalued and when the bubble bursts it will fall by double that into a 20% discount. That's when I plan to divest in SGOV and deploy the cash into equity.

As an Income Investor have few dividend stocks, less than 4%,. So my watch is the 10yr Treasury. If 10yr spikes to 5% I buy Bonds and Bond ETFs, hang out and get yield for a while. If Treasury goes low I sell Bonds & Bond ETFs for capital gains. I just float with the market. If there is a stock crash they generally seek the security of treasuries, the Fed usually interviews and reduces short term rates and 10yr drops fast.

The street has not get to FOMO just yet. Tom Lee also predicted it could be challenging in second half of the year. So 1st half we will see what the policies on the Capt. hill looks like and start to keep some powder dry. Jeremy segal also commented no one know how Long the musical chair last and it could be yr or two or even more. I like an earlier comment about bonds and I just start watching the 10 yrs and also have some skin in it now. Will see how the world and the market transpires. Unless you are as good as Buffett at analyzing stock, best to not try and time the market. Instead of “going to cash”, just keep investing. 2022 was a down year, but I kept buying and now my portfolio has now nearly tripled since then.

Berkshire is a trillion dollar company. The reasons behind why Buffet does what he does are probably involve many different factors than the typical person planning for retirement. I am going to keep my much smaller nest egg in the market. That is Buffet’s advice for most folks, invest in low cost index funds.

Buffett has been moving into cash for quite a while now. Can't say he is very good at market timing. He has missed out on major upside. Multiples high on certain stocks but you could argue that given the market growth that will be possible in the tech/AI/Chip/software world - those stocks still have upside. And I believe interest rates will come down in 2025 so watch the small cap stocks move much higher as their multiples are cheap. Obviously I'm bullish. I'm 68 years old so I have seen lots of ups and downs in the market. However I am 20% in cash because like Buffett, I want some dry powder if the market goes on sale.

Nobody talks about or considers that Buffett is hoarding cash at BRK because he is planning on bequeathing tons of money before he dies, and his estate is supposed to dish out all his shares within 10 years of death. Perhaps it makes sense or works out better for the stock if they are cash heavy when the largest share holder is selling out over the next 10 years or so.? . Makes sense to me...

My thought is to get out of investments in insurance companies. They seem to be taking some big hits with natural disasters in the south and California. I think Warren saw this coming and got out of risky insurance company investments. Smart move, possible to pickup some of these companies for less in the future as they rebuild. Just my two cents on the market.

He took some gains from Apple, and he thinks everything worth buying is overpriced. If he thinks Apple is at its peak then taking some gains is logical. When you think things are overpriced then how long do you wait to get back in without inflation eating into the values.

Frankly I have little use for bonds, at least until I'm a bit closer to retirement. That said, I do have a 7% position of I bonds I've held for over 20 years from when they offered a 3.4% fixed rate in addition to the inflation adjusted rate. Given the current returns on cash, I have a cash position to take advantage of a market correction while earning a reasonable return, though it's a larger position than I'm admittedly comfortable with at about 20% of my portfolio. I've been DCA 5% of this money into the market per month, so in about 20 months or so I should have invested all of it aside from my emergency fund. I rather hope we do see a correction inside that timeframe, and if so I'll begin dumping money in at a faster clip.

As a retiree, I am fairly conservative. I took profits at the end of last year, trimmed some more speculative positions and shifted the proceeds to treasuries. I did make one play on the election by increasing my midstream allocation a bit at the end of October just before the election and it has paid off well. Fingers crossed, Trump follows thru on his energy plan and that continues to increase. Lastly, picked up some TLT recently between $86 and $87. Hopefully we don't have a bond situation that makes me regret that. LOL! Appreciate the content, Azul!

I have a slightly different take with a similar outcome. Stocks are historically very expensive relative to earnings-that is a given. Warren came from a political family, and at a gut level, I think he sees political turmoil ahead (As do I). He is one of the world's great investors, and I wouldn't brush off his actions lightly. I have adjusted my allocations appropriately, so I'm comfortable going forward.

Just because some individuals are raising cash, is not a sign that something bad is happening. They know as much as the rest of us. People raise cash for any number of reasons, like I did at the end of the year. I converted 10% of my IRA into cash to ensure 5 years of house budget cash, but there was no market reason for doing that. Maybe chaos in the white house could be a reason for some, but I do not know. Certainly, God might be unhappy with the inauguration and maybe he decided for the first time in decades that the Gulf of Mexico needs some snow, this week. But that would be just speculation. Anyway, it is always good to re-evaluate your portfolio and do a gut check. Good luck.
