You say that, Opera Omnia did this father and son dynamic a lot better than FFX. Mostly by the fact that they actually managed to fill in the important plot holes and added underutilized character moments that the rest of the series didn’t have at first!

This boss fight should be regarded as the gold standard for fanservice. You don't need any additional context to understand who these characters are and why they're fighting, and for people with the context this serves as a great payoff for the unresolved build-up in the story these characters came from. I remember a few years back I got someone who never even played a Final Fantasy game into Dissidia out if interest for its story just by showing them these cutscenes.
