Not having a soul doesn’t mean you have no emotions. Just that you have no inhibitions. You simply don’t care about anything but desire and survival. Spike was already an emotional person even before becoming a vampire. Kinda like playing up Willows lesbian side early with her meeting her vampire.

Spike is the insightful idiot character. He's foolish, impulsive, not much of a thinker, but he sees clearly things that are obscured to others. It's an archetype.

@@jenthebubble1914 Angel was cursed to never be truly happy. Made him quite the grumpy pants lol. Spike was never deprived of that option. He was free to seek it. I like rewatching the scene when she was brought back and only Spike could truly understand. Xander realized but Spike is the only one who realized how awful it was for her.

The look of shock in their faces after realizing that they pulled Buffy out of Heaven when Buffy is singing is priceless, this ties up to the Angel series where Angel asks where the Home Office for Wolfram and Hart is only to enter the elevator and wind back to where he started and the revelation of shock in his face after learning he is in Hell, the world itself was the real Hell.

Buffy says this early on in the Vampire lore, its there in the show, they just kind of pretend otherwise. "When the last demons left earth, one of them infected a human to create a vampire" Earth has always been a Hell dimension, its just "Ruled" by humans rather than demons.

From here I think Buffy wanted to rest already when she diedsince she said she's in heaven already and she's happy there, but then her friends pull her out of heaven to come back on earth. And I think Buffy don't want that since she wanted to rest already but she cannot, because of her friends and there Buffy cannot do anything so she must go on the life on earth.

Spike really helped lead her to make peace with who she really was, the reasons for her self hatred her selfishness or inability to see or make peace with love which she rightly deserved and got from others and him. He knew she struggled to make peace with and understand as he did that she rightly deserved love. It was only at the end when he was dying did she finally understand but as extreme as it was it's what he wanted.

I’ve always thought that spike was the better one for Buffy from the very beginning and that is because he truly loved her when you truly love somebody their life is more important than you are very existence and that’s what Spike does here he stops her from self-destruction.

Buffy didn’t only jump into that energy field to save Dawn. She did it partly for herself too. There was that moment in an earlier episode where she said “I just wish that-“ She made it about wanting her mother back, but really she wanted to die. To be free from the burden of being a slayer. That’s also what they took from her, bringing her back.

When everything in your life brings you pain, and the one thing or person you loved the most is dead, then death takes on a particularly alluring appeal. A slayer's life is usually tragic and short, defined by a endless, unwinnable battle against evil. Being born a slayer is like being born "damaged goods." No matter what you do, your life will never be more than "making the best of a bad situation."

Good question. Maybe it's one new slayer per only one death. Otherwise you can take a slayer to a hospital and keep stopping her heart then restarting and then build an army of slayers. :)

Buffy died and activated Kendra. Kendra Died and activated Faith. Had the "Old" way of doing things continued, Faith dying would have activated the next.

The scene where they forced her back it’s just wrong and I could’ve told them that I’ve met people who have died and they have been gently called back. I’m one of those and I can tell you they never want to be called back because the place is a place where there is no pain Where there’s just peace I mean maybe it depends on your soul and what you believe. I’m not sure I just know I’ve experienced it and I’ve known others to have and those who have and have been forced back then never really happy about it. Their exceptions to every rulebut I think they were wrong me personally I think Buffy is a magnet for trouble. There is a saying among my people God never gives a plague without their being a cure. Now I think it’s something like that. I’m probably misquoting it, but you get the idea.

To be fair she didn't have a choice in the matter. That was part of the demon's magic, to make everyone air out all their dirty laundry whether they wanted to or not.

​@@munstify Yeah, the musical episode was a genius way to get everyone to tell all their secrets without a lot exposition and drama. Just dump all the secrets in songs, which is a really fun way to get all that info out - much better than dialog. Now, everyone can deal with all this new info in the following episodes.

@@JohnDoe-ls2zu fun fact, Xena: warrior princess did this first. There's a series of episodes in season 3 where Xena and Gabrielle have some issues and keep secrets from each other. Their conflict is laid bare and resolved via a musical episode. Lots of shows do musical episodes but I'm not sure there are any others like that

@@munstify Yeah, I heard that about Xena, but haven't watch it. The conflicts in Buffy the Vampire Slayer didn't get resolved in the musical episode. It took the rest of the season for everyone to deal with the fallout from those revealed secrets.

@@JohnDoe-ls2zu season-long story arcs were still sort of in their infancy when Xena aired, at least not on network TV, that wasn't really a thing until prestige TV a few years later. So storylines on Xena tended to resolve themselves very quickly. It was remarkable that they even had the events of the season leading up to the musical episode come back further down the line. But just like in Buffy it was a culmination of many different storylines that all reached a peak via the musical

It was perfect the spell was people singing and dancing to get over their secrets then spontaneously combust... The reveal was perfect because she was looking for a reason for being brought back to life and they didn't know...

I agree, it was such a great dramatic piece of moment I wish wasn't reveal through a musical. I know people go nuts over this episode, but I always found that it took away from the gravity of what happened.
