Good morning to you, KIDOWNER. The BUFFY FISH OWL, also known as Malay Fish Owl, is in the family Strididae. It is native to Southeast Asia and lives formost in tropical forests and wetlands. Due to its wide distribution and assumed stable population, it is listed as Least Concerned on the IUCN RED LIST since 2004. Although Hong Kong 🇭🇰 SAR does NOT have the BUFFY FISH OWL, as listed in the HK Bird app, there is the Brown Fish Owl, but are both of the KETUPA SPECIES.

Thanks for the info, Mark. Happily, Buffy Fish Owls are doing reasonably well in Singapore. Every season, there are successful nestings. 😊 We have the Brown Fish Owl too, but it is rare & very difficult to meet. Thanks for watching!😊

Good Evening, KIDOWNER. That’s interesting….., the Brown Fish Owl is a fish owl species in the family known as typical owls, STRIGIDAE. It is native from Turkey 🇹🇷 to South and Southeast Asia. Due to its wide distribution, it is listed as Least Concerned on the IUCN RED LIST It inhabits forests and wooded wetlands.
