Oh my beautiful Uncle Billy. William Kested. 2 tours in Vietnam. Survived Khe Sanh at The Hill only to come home and survive a massive fire. Raised 3 children with the love of his life. Both gone along with their eldest. I was lucky to be his niece. Semper fi Uncle Billy. 1946-1996

As a severely wounded veteran of the Vietnam War when I was a young man of 20 in 1969, this song hits home. You nailed it Buffy.

Young hippie from Berkeley was growing pot up in Northern Washington State in 1972 w an ex Army Ranger Capt. He loved Steve Miller n said over there he played Miller out on the fire base. He was 6ft 4in of 'wompin stompin whale blubber' but after 3tours seeing the light of the insanity behind it was time to seek other ways. I found myself then trying imagine guys out on the fire 🔥 base listening to Steve Miller Band's SPACE COWBOY, DON'T LET THEM TURN U ROUND or I'LL NEVER KILL ANOTHER MAN... so poignant the power of music really hit home. But we knew that then, the song was mightier than the sword (and army generals n sleezy back room politician schemers) ✌️ He loved this 💯 : "Well don't you let the army general burn the world Burn the world, burn the world Well don't let the army general burn this world You got to keep on walkin', keep on talkin' Marchin' to the freedom land"

I grew up at the same time as Buffy and with different influences we came to the same place. I bought into this being the Age of Aquarius. I listen today on the verge of tears praying for the men and women forced by their country or circumstances to have to take up arms. I wonder why as a species we even deserve to exist?

In the late 1960's this was a song that motivated me as well as one which brought tears to my eyes (and still does). Coupled with the Quaker Action Group's voyage to North and South Vietnam aboard the sailing ship Phoenix, it forced me to look at my soul. I subsequently left the US in 1970 for Canada and have never looked back. Thank you Buffy.

I saw Donavan in Scottsdale, Az many years ago. I was a fan long before then. His music had a nice new sound with age. It was a wonderful small venue concert.

"He's a Catholic, a Hindu, an Atheist a Jane, a Buddhist, and a Baptist and a Jew..." ... "but without him how would Hitler have condemned him at Dachau... Without him Caesar would've stood alone..." "without him all this killing can't go on..." Man's inhumanity to his fellow man... The song "Daylight Again" by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young about Civil war is also so poignantly movingly apt.
