Recently 100%ed the game on Switch (no code difficulty runs yet), and I believe Bug Me Not works differently for the Giant's Lair. Pre-completion, enemies don't care, but post-completion they do. I know it wasn't a level difference, as my final one was reached during my first visit.

So I’m currently doing a HARDEST + MYSTERY? run in BF and listening to this while farming berries. I got Luckier Day as like my second badge and put it on because why not, it’s 0 MP to use. I figured it would increase my luck so that maybe I’d get more status effects or run into more Golden Seedlings. And I have run into 10 Golden Seedlings so I thought yeah, I must be lucky because of the lucky medal. Watching you put this medal in F tier made me look up what it does. And now I’m incredibly sad, because I thought I had gotten really good at action commands. 😢

While I understand Quick Flea's placement, I suck at fleeing which is bad in places like the Deadlands. I liked using it with Crazy Prepared and Secure Pouch when finding my way back to Roach Village so that the Deadlanders (even Gammas) were far less annoying. Also Luckier Day is hilarious and that is purely why I have it.

Bug Me Not! does work in the Fridge and in the Kitchen. Though, you have to be in Post-game. which is annoying because to Kitchen you will go only if you want to visit Hoaxe, to the fridge if you're doing Roach's quest

What does luckier day do? i remember equipping it waiting for enemies to miss and i get a "lucky" message like paper mario, but never happened and i forgot i had it at all.

it's a cosmetic medal. Any action command you hit whether attacking or defending makes the flavor text read "unbeelievable". and that's literally it.

Idk if i am right or not but the fridges enemies (even tho they are chapter 4 enemies) have higher states then normally and that might be why bug me not didn’t work.

Just checked on a 100% file and Bug Me Not does KO the constructs, both the fridge and fire variants. Though I'm not sure if thats because I maxed out in level, they dont drop any points, or that I beat the final boss. Dead Landers still force the fight even with the medal equipped. Also, I dont find Spy Specs to be a hassle to get. Just need to beat Ch 3 then fight Aria, Ahoneynation, and Scarlet/Mothiva 1 and you can heal inbetween each fight. Bit time consuming but not the worst thing.

Sounds like this warrants more experimentation. Something else to remember when i start a new challenge i guess. And yeah Spy Specs are still decent. worth getting if trying the Cave of Trials early, but otherwise i would just spy. Unless it's Tangybug. Of course.

@@PhantomAarantula In a normal run you could have the MP to spare but for Ruigee, itd be best to make all 30 points impactful. Plus its not the worst thing to have to count 99 HP worth of damage (or 115 in HARDEST, but damn 5 def is fucking absurd)

I like detector just because my brain is small sometimes. My memory isn't all that great so having a little beeping sound go off every once in a while to remind me I still have something to collect is useful to me. Plus, 0 MP means that there's no downside.

I feel like you've underrated Bug Me Not here. With how much backtracking there can be in the game, it's basically a requirement.

No. :| I can't even recall the last time I missed using Bug Me Not in this game. I'm just too used the avoiding enemies, I'd probably rank it even lower now.

@@PhantomAarantula I personally think that it is pretty good and definitely shouldn't be C tier or below. The fact that it is 0 mp, can be obtained immediately after chapter 1, and takes no effort to get for not having to worry about entering random encounters makes it pretty good. Even if you can avoid enemies, which I think most people can, it is still convenient not having to worry about entering a random battle. You even sometimes get free berries or items from those enemies.

@@TJ-hg6op It's 1 MP, not 0. I honestly could not care less what the medal does for the overworld, it's worthless against boss battles and enemy fights whenever the medal doesn't activate. In fact, nowadays since I'm more experienced with the game, I legit could have ranked Bug Me Not as an F tier medal off that fact alone. At best, it's a crutch for people who don't care to maneuver in the overworld efficiently. At worst, it's literally dead weight like other miscellaneous medals like Spy Specs, Quick Flea, and Secure Pouch. You're more than free to make your own tier list, but I honestly feel like I was WAY too nice with this one.

@@PhantomAarantula Well thats okay, we just play differently then. I feel the best way to compare this is to the wayward compass in hollow knight. Although some just say it is a waste of a charm slot because they don’t need it to explore, a lot of people still use it because it is just useful for people who aren’t extremely experienced. If you haven’t played that game, this won’t make much sense. Although it may be F tier for you, you have to acknowledge how useful it is for most players.

@TJ436 Even F tier tools can still be used to good effect imo. I would call Peekaboo an F tier medal in Paper Mario knowing enemy HP and defense like the back of my hand, but there's no disputing that tools like that will be invaluable for others. Experience is just a really big and subjective factor when it is relevant.

At the end of the video, it's shown that medals can still be reranked since it isn't like everything is set in stone. Opinions change all the time. Besides, I want to rank all of the medals. Being 0 MP doesn't make it any less worthy imo, especially when you can compare Hard Hits to Berry Finder which do correlate in what you gain after a battle.

To be honest you don't even need to play on hard mode to completely ignore exp boost, my first playthrough was on normal mode too and I basically never farmed a lot on a whole playthrough I did like 20 battles to farm exp. that's almost 3 battles per chapter otherwise I just made straight shots and battled what was on the way, almost reached level 27 that way. I also never battled golden seedlings for exp too

What do you mean "Luckier Day" is a bad medals ? It's unbeelivable one of the best. Jokes aside, it's the only one that's only a cosmetic one. I think as soon I've found it I keep the medal on. Just because it was a fun touch. It's pratically the same thing as those Sound effect from Paper Mario TTYD and the emblem ones.

@10:42-.-I feel like you neglect the casual experience way too much in this video. While the game did clearly have Paper Mario veterans in mind, but it’s also very clearly has new players in mind. Someone playing Bug Fables before they played the first two paper Mario games (like me) is not only quite possible, but completely valid. In my play through, i’d always equip Quick Flee _with_ Secure Pouch, because I wanted to be able to _actually flee battle._ Sense, from my experience, it doesn’t decrease the amount of time one has to do the inputs, just the amount of inputs one has to do, making fleeing way easier. Consequently, it was an absolute must equip on my play through, I only ever unequipped it when I wanted to equip Bug Me Not (so that I didn’t have to worry about encounters when exploring past areas).

You do know what an opinion is, right Don't depend on people you've never heard of before to echo how you feel. I don't see any value in using Quick Flee to just make it easier to do something that isn't even hard to begin with when Secure Pouch has the incentive of protecting your berries that you don't want to lose from running away. You're given plenty of time to run away as is, it's just a matter of not being hasty. I should have ranked it E tier at highest if not F, but I'm not that petty.

I've gotten used to going through the entire area of The Dead Lands without getting caught by any of the enemies, but that's pretty much on my THIRD PLAYTHROUGH. Until that point, I had faith in my belief that I just had the Medal unequipped. But no. They can still not be effected. Even after the latest patch. *_WHY?_*
