The purpose of this Horizon Insider Tech Talk is to answer the question: Why should you update the firmware on both your Spektrum Programming Card and Smart Firma/Avian ESC?
The answer is a resounding yes... but there are several reasons why. In this video, Kyle explains exactly why you should keep ALL of your hardware up to date. Additionally, he guides you through a step-by-step process on how to update to perform the update via a laptop computer. We demonstrate this using a TLR 8IGHT-XTE, but this process is applicable to ANY car, truck, boat, plane, or helicopter installed with Spektrum Smart ESC hardware!

Thank you for the information. I'll be updating today. I noticed my settings on my esc were not all at default from factory. My punch was already at 5 and my brake was really low. Kinda odd but the programmer took care of it.

Btw, you could update the ESC WITHOUT THE PROGRAM CARD. all you need is the TX/RX USB Programming Cable (part #SPMA3065)

It's awesome that you can see all your settings on a computer screen rather than having to scroll through and look at an LCD display. I will probably get the Spektrum Smart ESC Programmer ASAP mainly for the USB connection to PC. I wonder if you can save custom set ups on your PC and push them off to your ESC for different driving conditions? Anyways ... Great Video ....

I have the new Typhon ready to race TLR version. Even with upgrading the firmware on the ESC and the programmer box I still do not have access to all the features that the 150A ESC offer . I only have the settings that came with the vehicle, not the options that are listed in the 150 manual. How do I get to drag break and all those other options that are listed in the 150A manual?

I have a fire team and I tried running 5 cell lipo and the esc shuts down how do I fix it

Great video and just waiting on my laptop so I can update and install my new esc’s I just got to update my boats to smart technology and my traxxas Slash ultimate!Love the new transmitters and got me a DX5C and now just use one remote for all my RC’s❤️👍💪Best remote I’ve used yet!

Hello, I have a S2100 charger. Well I was charging a battery, the balance report started smoking so I pulled it out real quick, Teresa did replace the battery as it was only about six months old. The problem is I continue now to have a air on my charger wrong voltage. I tried to contact the rising hobbies the only report I got back from them was because it was over a year old the charger was out of warranty at first they told me to do the update which I had to buy the update cable And now the problem is worse. This does not do well that a $200.00 charger for my last this long. I have had several problems with the Spectrum smart batteries not wanting to charge over the last year. This is really up bad that I had to replace the charger that one of the batteries shorted out well it was plugged in. The question I have is what is the battery shorted out in the charger or the charger shorted out the battery. I do not think I will be replacing it with another spectrum smart charger I have had nothing but problems charging since I went to the smart batteries.

i went to update the programmer but only have 3.2.41 as newest when is the .42 or .45 coming out? i redownloaded Spektrum link and still the same only .41

ok, im tryinf to do this with my Mojave. but it doesnt seem to connect to the ESC. nothing happens. even if i just connect the program box to the esc without the computer it just says "connecting to ESC" but nothing happens. seems to just get frozen there

I updated mine also with a higher quality hobbywing max 5, savox servo and a leopard 58113 1050kv motor. Got rid of the low quality spectrum electronics. Oh yea, thanks HH for basically blaming me for the trouble's I was having and not thinking it could possibly be a bad esc. The servo locked up on the second run. It took 4 puffed batteries and overheating issues to figure out the esc was bad. The bearings must also be of low quality because I have less than 3 hrs on my rc and one bearing had total failure which took out the rear diff housing. To be honest, if I knew then what I know now ( hindsight is 2020) I never would have bought anything from HH and nothing with spektrum electronics. Edit: It isn't just me who is having issues with the spectrum electronics, my brothers kraton 6s, the esc stopped working, the servo locked up. I've talked to hobby shops and they have said they are having trouble's with spektrum electronics. So this isn't a one off problem.

Spektrum escs are rebranded hobbywing escs. Shame on you. Actually, the spektrum escs Actually have better features and customizations than hobbywing.

@@markquitugua2504 Rebranded or new, either way the quality of spektrum esc's and servos are bad. Better features? That means spektrum has done something to the esc's that you say are rebranded hobbywing esc's, well whatever spektrum has done, it lowered the quality of them. The spektrum transmitter (dx5 rugged, upgrade from the one that came with the rc) and receiver are fine, I'll never trust spektrum esc's or servos again. Spektrum/ losi/ horizon hobby, we have an idea-- Let's build a 1/5 scale 28+ lb rc (over 30 lbs with batts) and put a 200A motor ( which you can't find any info on) paired with a 160A esc of low quality ( but we'll add extra features to the esc) with other cheap parts and charge over $1000. Don't get me wrong, I like the dbxl-e 2.0, it really is one hell of an rc, once you upgrade the esc, motor, servo, bearings, tires, shock springs and a few other not so cheap aluminum parts. So basically when you invest another $1000 or so dollars it's one hell of an rc.

Pleaseeee, not everyone is carrying around a PC these days. Please develop mobile first. Who brings a PC to the track? Or on Raceway? We all do majority of things on our mobile phones.

The programmer sucked... I updated my esc firmware just like the video and it made my car go in full speed only in reverse and not forward.. i restored the origin settings and even calibrated my motor but it won't fix.. thanks for nothing. It was a Kraton 8s.. which i bought off Horizon hobby and it was missing parts as well. Never again

Well, it looks like I waisted my money purchasing it. IT'S NO GOOD FOR MAC USERS !!
