Perfect fire kit, you can practice traditional fire methods with it and in a survival situation you would be sorted. I now use old denim jeans for charcloth, it is thicker and far less delicate when handling it. The wire saw was originally developed for use in the special forces survival kit, correct use is to use a arm length sapling and attach the saw like a bow saw, this makes a very effective tool. Fabulous content as always. All the best Si 😀

Hi Si! Thanks, I've heard of making char cloth with jeans, I should give it a bash and while I'm at it experiment with a whole lot of others. Maybe I'll make it into a video. Thanks for sharing the info about the saw, that makes sense. I had no idea!

Wow quite an extensive fire kit and well presented. You could add a few trick cake candles, the type that reignight when you blow them out.

👍👍👍 Morning Clarise .. good content .. thanks for sharing. Ziploc bags .. together with Bubblegum on the great Inventions list 😁. Something to consider for the kit. A Pencil Sharpener. It makes for great thin shavings with very little effort. The little metal ones are cheap, robust and light and often have a spare blade attached. If space allows, the 'double version' (to cater for different pencil / wax crayon diameters) is particularly handy. That little fella, the Blue Leguan .. they grow to quite a size if left alone. Once again Clarise, a good share 👍. Take care .. Tommy

Great video! Ref the fire tin/tinder box, you are one of the very few who says not to have the hole in the lid.... The welding gloves are a good idea. That IS a fact that it is NOT needed and can actually be counter productive. great info! Great presentation, I subbed after seeing just this one. THX

Howzit and big thank you! I did enjoy the lizzard's company too, he kept on creeping closer. It's always good to have the small and lively critters around because they can be an early warning system if a predator moves into the area.

Great presentation as always. Learned a few things as I always do with your presentations. I've had success making a fuzz ball with duct tape, sticky side out, and lighting with a ferro rod. Keep an empty lighter for throwing sparks. Works well with easy to light tender. Looking forward to more videos from you. Take care and be safe.

Hi there! Thanks for watching and commenting! I was so amused last night when I saw a KZbin video title that read something like 'protecting themselves from lions and criminals in South Africa'. It rings so true but it's scary that the dangerous people are equated to the largest predators on the continent. Africa is a wild, wild place, and we love it ;)

Quite a comprehensive fire kit, great way to keep up your skills (knowledge is the best thing to carry), considering your heritage thought you might carry a Tondeldoos. I might suggest that you use a ranger band under the button to secure the Bic lighter trigger so it cannot accidentally discharge gas. Personally I would simplify the kit, my go to man made tinder are the cotton makeup pads (but I just wax dip, don't find it nessesary to add an accelerant and catches a spark better). The nail polish was a new one for me, keep up the great content, cheers
@LiveReady
@LiveReady 3 жыл бұрын
What a great reminder of our South African heritage, thanks for your comment! For anyone who is curious a Tondeldoos is Afrikaans for tinder box. It consists of a container (usually a piece of copper pipe or the base of a candle holder) that has a lid. Before matches were widely available it contained charred material like cotton and was issued with a piece of flint and high carbon steel. The idea was to light the cotton and use it to start a fire (similar to a tin with flint, steel and char cloth). Once your use of the tinder was complete and you had lit the candle or started a fire you could extinguish the tinder in the container (pipe or candle holder base) by closing the lid, and keep the rest for next time. A very resourceful way to light fires). Thanks for the tip on the Ranger band and Bic lighter, in a scenario where butane gas or access to lighters is limited, having peace of mind that your not losing lighter fluid is valuable. Thanks for sharing your knowledge! C

Watching you From Virginia, USA. I like the hank of 550 Cord right in the kit for the bow drill. Survivor cord would be better. I'm going to do that tonight! The gorilla tape around your Lighter is a great fire extender. I made my own slow match with cotton string and a wax candle and I keep that in my kit.

Meisie, jy verbaas my nog steeds. Baie goeie inhoud.. I actually use the lazy methods as well. Lion matches that are oversized. They burn longer and can be used as tinder. I also fold a quarter of toilet paper around the normal match, and dip it into candle wax. That's how I make my own fireproof matches. And yes, zip lock bags are a must. Bank bags for the the lighter and matches are ideal.
