Many thanks Rich, for taking me back to my youth, where I spent many a miserable night under a BA basher, with 4 years in the cadets, a year in the TA, and 12 years in the regular army, I definitely spent a few years under canvas

Good to see you getting back to basics. It doesn't matter how much experience you have in the field you can still learn something new from someone even if it's just one little thing.. Good video.

Oh Rich, I used to love light weight backpacking but unfortunately not been able to do it for years. Still love watching back to basics camping like that. Great stuff pal.

Thank you very much Rich for taking me back to my mid teens when I joined the Air training Corps and spending late winter and early spring in a basher in the woods on a GDT camp.

Cheers for putting the camp on Rich, I had a great time and it was great to try a different style of camping. The first night made me realise what luxury it is sleeping in the back of the D-Max, especially having the solid canopy around you. Great to be around like minded people and no dramas. Cant wait for the next Patreon meet up. 👍

I was going to hammock but always wanted to bivi and tarp. With a group I went with the latter and it was awesome! Thanks for a great weekend and the breakfast stew. Still pondering on the 5 items camp, it's driving me nuts. Stay safe Rich atvb 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🦊

I am working on my second Back pack for emergencies right now. One is for my wife the one I'm working on is my own which will have more gear than hers. Been planning out ideas for my daily driver which doubles as a bugout vehicle. Health permitting I want to do a camping video of me staying out of my bag one night and vehicle the next.

First question and my considered opinion. A smaller well considered and packed bag is better. I did 14 months with one in Asia, 55l but you are spot on with technique.

I'd go for the full use of any pack; if you don't need 120 litres of the '95 with rockets then the day bag packed full is a winner. I have been down a similar journey and looked at what I actually needed, not wanted, needed. I have a fair few Bergens, day bags etc the NIPP is a particular favourite. A plce belt issue can be useful too and I'd like to see a Civvie version in place. In fact I've tried using the belt PLCE on it's own with some success for summer trips.

Bitter camps are alright I reckon, haven’t done one for a while.Australian bush has brown and black snakes, and some rotten spiders that don’t give you a second chance,so much care has to be taken with that kind of camp.

The British ration packs are nutritionally prepared. It's designed to do what it says on the tin: Feed and hydrate an active man for 24 hours.
