I just converted to the old school beetle and I'm going to do the same as you. for your cooling pipes find a 1991 and up MR2's have long stainless steel pipes to transfer the coolant. about 5 to 6 feet long. hope that helps out. Waiting to see what you've done next. Peace

My friend who's done the exact same conversion has no issues with overheating. He put air scoops on the bottom of the radiator- but had to take it off. It cools too much. So you'll definitely be fine.
@Busaru8 жыл бұрын
+daniel Jimenez That's interesting about the scoops. I'll be sealing up the gaps so that the airflow goes through the radiator so I think it'll work out great. If not, then I can always change things up. Thanks for the comment.

I never thought about it but your spare tire layed down flat ? Looks like you have a ton more room than a ball joint frontend
@MrKingraham8 жыл бұрын
yes that's the one .low so you still have your full boot floor plus because it's low it cools the full rad .I hope this helps someone!

+Graham McMahon Is there no cutting required for that radiator? If No cutting does it hang below the body line? I can't find that radiator commonly - are you located in the US? Do you have a source for the radiator? Thanks mate!

could you do a video pin point for the EJ22T when you get to that point? Aloha
@Busaru8 жыл бұрын
+Hiram Whitaker I can certainly try! What exactly are you looking for that's different from the other pinout video? Any particular things that are confusing? That would help me target that in a video if I did one.

The cabin heater will be interesting.

+Kevin Hornbuckle Yeah, it'll be great to see how that comes together myself as well :)

Remember to put a drain valve on the bottom radiator hose and a temp sender. You will be able to measure the cooling rate that way.
@Busaru8 жыл бұрын
+Kevin Hornbuckle Can you explain that a little more? I'm not sure I'm following how you would measure the cooling rate. Do you mean just take an inbound temp reading and taking an outbound temp rating and comparing? I think as long as the engine runs at good temps I'll be okay with it.
@kevinhornbuckle8 жыл бұрын
I agree that you will be fine. But it would be interesting to be able to quantify the drop between in and out. Yes, just a comparison.
@Busaru8 жыл бұрын
+Kevin Hornbuckle Cool, that's what I thought you might be interested in seeing. Maybe at some point if hardware something like that but for now I may just do a hard drive to kick the fans on then use an infrared thermometer to check temps - quick and dirty but hopefully enlightening.

Thanks for the response. The 95 is a 2nd generation and the Ej22t is a first generation. it has a multi junction connection that pins into one of the 4 ecu plugs. 1995 Subaru has a cleaner wire lay out then 90-94. Do I use the main relay and fuse box and just illiminate wires not connected to the ecu? Aloha
@Busaru8 жыл бұрын
+Hiram Whitaker Hi Hiram, all of the harnesses (OBD1 and OBD2) are very similar. The OBD1 have a big grey splice plug that you can eliminate by soldering the wires but that's one of the only major differences. I don't use the big black relay box in my conversions I've tried to in the past but it's just clunky and not set up right for a VW swap.

What does that do to the crumple zone? ;-)
@kevinhornbuckle8 жыл бұрын
Makes it delicious. Like a macaroon.
@Busaru8 жыл бұрын
+Forthwith Tx haha! Yeah, it definitely downgraded the Bugs great crumple zone to that of a bus or Vanagon :)
@martywolf1819 Жыл бұрын
Crumple zone !!! ?? it's a beetle it don't have a crumple zone it has a smash zone you crash it and you will be smashed into a new zone

What year rad would it be for? I have an EJ25 and I need to figure out what radiator would work best.
@Busaru8 жыл бұрын
+jeffinillinois It's an early Scirocco rad (1983 is a good bet). I'll keep everyone posted on how it cools, I don't think there will be a problem at all though.

your rad is high and you will get much better results with gti rad

+Graham McMahon Thanks Graham, If I have issues cooling with the bigger radiator I will look into switching to a smaller one like the Peugeot.
