One interesting thing about this engine is the firing order on each bank. As the engine rotates you can see that the order in which the pistons on each bank hit TDC is 1-8-3-4-7-2-5-6. Interestingly, this is the same firing order as on many two-stroke low-speed marine Diesel engines with 8 cylinders.

@sepg50843 жыл бұрын
"smart" is relative. A quad turbo W16 would not be a smart way of producing 1500+ hp. A W16 is too big, heavy, overcomplicated, and expensive; which are not "smart" engineering characteristics. A V12 would have sounded better, balanced as-is, smaller, lighter, less complex, and have a more efficient valvetrain design.

I just found these videos and I’d like to say thank you so much for making these. Being into cars but not knowing a whole ton about certain aspects, I hear people say how you can tell the difference between engine configurations just by the sound all the time, but I think it’s really hard to tell the difference by looking at different videos of different cars revving because every time the setting is different and the audio could sound completely different irrespective of the car. But you make almost every engine config sound in a consistent, repeatable fashion which allows people to properly tell apart the small differences in engine sound characteristics because it’s all done in an equal, controlled environment. If you weren’t doing this, nobody else would be, but because you do it’s making my job a lot lot easier because I can finally start to tell the difference between engine sounds a little bit! Thank you so so much :)
@WilliamMoser3 жыл бұрын
You're welcome, I was starting to think this stuff was incredibly niche but it looks like the algorithm was just taking its time. It's probably lucky that the first engine I did was a crossplane V8 as the simulation demonstrated the characteristic sound better than most engines, and got me thinking about more. My standard blip noises worked well for the W16 so they should be good for everything else too!
