Bugbear - Complete Storyboarded Dovewing MAP

Thank you everyone for all the support. At long last, the complete Bugbear MAP is here! Please check out the amazing artists below who contributed-especially if some catch your eye. I’m extra grateful to Wyntr, who helped me composite all of the credits and fanart (they deserve a resounding applause!).

Conceptually, Dovewing has always been a fascinating character to me. Told about her part in a prophecy at an early age, she was distanced from her Clanmates, feeling like she never quite fit in. Throughout her life, she struggles to live up to the expectations placed upon her by both herself and the cats around her. This MAP seeks to explore her attempts to live up to those expectations-up until she can’t take it anymore.
These expectations are symbolized by golden, oozing nectar. As she struggles to focus on the cats around her after returning from her journey, nectar gets caught on her paws, symbolizing how she can’t seem to escape her feelings of inadequacy. Eventually, she manages to drag herself out of the expectations placed upon her.

@@madamecheesey OMG and don't even get me started on the BUMBLESTRIPE discourse that happened in that era too. The fandom LOVED shitting on Squirrelflight and Dovewing in particular for their very true feelings towards Ashfur and Bumblestripe. Both girls tried to make things work, and were genuinely interested at one point in those toms, but MAN the fandom HATED them for just leaving them? For being happy at least in Dovewing's case cause WHY Squirrel went with bramble I have no idea. Ashfur wasn't better though.

Dovewing is a victim of Starclan, it feels SO cruel that her son was part of such a harsh prophecy, after she was forced to go through it too. i really hope they explore her and have her doubt/distrust Starclan because seriously. It's so cruel to her and her family.

So this fandom is already starved for dovewing maps and content but I have never seen a dovewing map with this much focus on her attachment to the other traveling cats and in this much detail show how isolated she felt and how that influenced her pulling away from others cats. This map was spectacular and everyone included did a wonderful job.

I really wanted to highlight those relationships :) they were such an important part of her life growing up (and continue to affect her after the journey), but they’re no ever touched upon much, besides perhaps Tigerheart for obvious reasons!

We FINALLY have a MAP project that is centered around DOVEWING ONLY. This map is about her emotions, her struggles under expectations and her wants of escapism from her problems, the prophecy, her powers and Thuderclan. I CANNOT express through any words of the English language (or any language really) on how just... AMAZING. JUST AMAZING this map is!!! The art direction is GORGEOUS and magnificently composed, the visuals are so vibrant and lively, the transitions between each part is done astonishingly well, each character's (and especially Dovewing's) personality are conveyed by every participant SO WELL and MY GOD is the editing/pacing FANTASTIC!!! This project is nothing but a jawdropping piece of art, every single person involved did exceptionally well and the final outcome IS GOD TIER. I'm so glad I was able to help out with the backgrounds, I honestly wish I could've done more tho!! :D Thank you LenisLynx for giving this project life and directing it, our favourite lovewing Dovewing finally got the attention to her character that she deserves. Not a sister rivarly map. Not a love triangle map. A DOVEWING MAP.

I’m so happy you included the part of holly’leaf with Jayfeather and Lionblaze because it shows how Dovewing knew that holly’leaf would’ve fit the third cat perfectly. Dovewing never wanted to be apart of it, hollyleaf was desperate.

The MAP means so much to me. Dovewing is my favorite character. When I was a kid, the fandom was so hateful towards her, and it made me really sad, becuase I could relate to her so much. When people called her whiney, it's like they were calling me whiney. The fandom is less hateful now, but I still see the haters around.... tbh, I think they are just less vocal now that more people are sticking up for her. She was treated so poorly by both the fandom AND her clan. And that made me latch onto her even stronger... she's such a good character. I LOVE how this MAP shows her struggles through metaphor, I love the music, I love the art, I love the designs, I love the symbolism, and it's one of the very FEW MAPs that are centered around *Dovewing,* and _only_ Dovewing. Everything about this MAP is just so perfect.

I feel like this is the first map with doveing ALONE. It shows her struggles with thunderclan and the prophecy, and highlights how unhappy she is. This map is a WORK OF ART! Picasso. Love it!

People call Dovewing a Mary Sue, but ever since she was born she had a prophecy held on to her that made her life hard. And Tigerheart/star was the only one that actually made Dovewing comfortable, like she could be around him without him mentioning her powers. The reason why I really like the ship. Now that her powers are gone, she struggled but pulled through it. She could’ve died in the prophecy, like Bristlefrost. And to be honest I think it was best for her to leave Thunderclan and join Shadowclan. Bumblestripe needs to move on and find someone else cuz clearly Dovewing wasn’t the one⭐️

*You don’t know how long I’ve been waiting for this. Haven’t even started 10 seconds and already knew how awesome and eye candy this was going to be! I’m so glad this got finished and it did indeed catch my eye, everybody artstyle compliments each other so well. And the storyboard colors are so soothing; I love warm colors especially orange and gold and dove wings color palette matches it so perfectly, don’t get me started on the story that all artist showed with such simple yet complex movements. This is the best warrior cats map I’ve ever seen and I’m not even in the fandom anymore, you’ve sparked my old childish warrior cat past self

Obsessed with the ending scene, where she jumps into the river of nectar. The whole MAP she's dodging it, ignoring it, tolerating it at best. And Midnight keeps looming because of it, because it still clings to her and she refuses to clean it off because that would mean acknowledging it. Even at 1:04, where she dunked right into it, she closes her eyes and blocks her ears before being taken out of it without actually swimming. Finally, she willingly jumps right into it to escape Midnight. She doesn't just marinate in it like she did before either, she puts in the effort to swim through it and come out the other side. She works through her problems and as a result, Midnight can no longer reach her. The forest she walks out into isn't that yellowy-green colour either !!

I miss Dovewing being the great hunter and young, strong cat she used to be... it seems that as soon as ANY she-cat has kits, their personality is replaced by that of a blade of grass. This MAP doesn't focus her whole life on kits the way the Erins do, and that's nice.

This is such a lovely concept; the trope where mental troubles are personified in an animal id something I’ve seen in several other works/animations (eg owl house with eda’s owl beast) and its so accurate every time. i wish that dove had gotten help in thunder but clearly shadow clan was SO much healthier. Im happy she was able to escape. EDIT: I thought that Dove had honey on her paws (which bears love in stereotypes) but instead its nectar, the more raw and unprocessed form. I think this is symbolic of how her problems haven't been processed properly because she hasn't had someone to speak about them with before.

Oh god I'm so late but... THIS M.A.P. IS BRILLIANT! FINALLY A DOVEWING M.A.P. AND DOVEWING *ONLY* She's SO overhated, I love her tho I love how this M.A.P. shows how unhappy she is in ThunderClan, how she feels overpressured and overwhelmed, how ThunderClan basically used her for her powers. I love how it showed her many struggles, how she tries to be perfect to please every cat but how unhappy and stressed that makes her, but with Tigerheart she's truly happy, the way she feels happy and like her normal self being with Tigerheart is adorable, he understands her and treats her like a normal cat, they're a great couple. I'm glad that Dovewing moved to ShadowClan, there she's happy. No prophecy, no overwhelming powers, no cats that overpressure her. Just her, Tigerheart/star and their kits. She's truly happy, that's what matters Also, this M.A.P. in general is eye candy, it's so gorgeous and eye catching, everyone did so well Dovewing deserves more love I love this M.A.P. so much Thank you for this M.A.P., all of you ❤

Sometimes, I show a couple of MAPs to my best friend, and she just told me that this one is her favourite, because "the cat that looks like chocolate milk has kittens with the dark chocolate cat and they live happy together without sticky honey bears roaming around". I was never really a dovewing fan when I was reading the books as a teenager. I connected more to ivypool due to her feeling bitter about not feeling special like her sister. I thought dovewing had less compelling conflict and was more Mary Sue ish. However, years later and maps like these make me realize dove was very grounded and realistic as a character due to being brought into the prophecy very early in her life but at a point that Jay/lion had already come to grips with their own, not really understanding that dove hasn’t had the same experience due to being a bit older/mature by that point in time. I can understand why she felt so suffocated by her own clan because she never really felt like a normal thunderclan clanmate due to the prophecy hanging on her young shoulders. She was forced onto this responsibility that wasn’t her choice to have to begin with. I like this map because it outlines her struggle very well, trying to juggle her powers in the prophecy with Jay/lion, her romantic relationships with Tiger/bumble, and the strained relationship with her own sister ivy. Im appreciating dove more now that I realize how intricate she really is as a character. This was an amazing map and opened my eyes a bit more!!

I remember avoiding this map because I thought it was boring or had a bad plot. But now, it’s literally my favourite warriors map, and song! This literally made me like Dovewing more than Ivypool. If that isn’t a sign of a good map I don’t know what one is. Not to mention how perfect all the art looks and the artists did an amazing job! I’m an animator myself and super impressed every time I see it! The designs are recognizable and perfectly reflect how I saw the characters in my head. This is probably the best map I’ve ever seen from my time in the warriors community, if I had to explain Dovewing in 3 minutes to someone who doesn’t know her, this is what I’d use. I can’t even say any more because everything is perfect.

I love how much this map seemed to paint dovewing's struggles with thunderclan, and her own powers even, so perfectly. Its not every day i find a dovewing map, since a lot of people dont seem to like her, and even tho i love ivypool just as much, she already has way to many maps. So not only is a fresh and welcome change, but its brilliantly animated, with the art style and the perfect transitions, its maginificent! Definitely top 10 in my book 👌

I'm so glad this map is finished, I've been so excited! It's character designs are so well done. Like tigerhearts fur literally being the shape of a heart, DoveWing resembling a bear, and bumblestripe having big antennas as eyebrow whiskers. I love to see this is many projects and movies, and I love the symbolism in the honey as it slowly creeps up through her paws. This map was amazing to watch!

Fun fact: Dovewing is inspired by both a bear - highlighting her connection to her very own “bugbear” (a common definition of which is “a cause of obsessive fear, irritation, or hate”) - and a black collared dove! Black collared doves don’t drink nectar, which is a subtle visual indicator that she “doesn’t belong,” as every other ThunderClan cat’s shape design is inspired by either nectar drinking animals or nectar producing plants.

And Silverstream was calling her things all because she was trying to do her job. And SilverStream gets all the love because she was "misunderstood"? This is SO well done! I'm so happy to see a map on Dovewing that actually truly focuses on her. She honestly had it pretty rough, and I was so proud of her for finally doing what she wanted to do instead of doing what others wanted and expected of her. I kinda relate a lot to her, so it's really nice and refreshing to see a map that focuses more on her struggles with having to be the good, golden, role model, and live up to all of these expectations placed onto her (and at such a young age) when she's not even happy and it isn't truly what she wants. Since I saw the map call I was so excited because I loved the concept, the desings, the shapes that were used on it, the colour palettes, the backgrounds, and the song. And it didn't disappoint me! @@kittyyoutuber9 It was, yes :) Her eyes turn golden in the MAP to signal to the spectator that she’s tapping into her powers, but originally the inspiration came from the fact that her eyes changed colors within the books-hence the blue and green in her eyes when she’s not using her powers.

Woah, watching this made all the memories of Warriors Cats coming back. Dovewing had always been my favorite character. I had her face on my birthday cake once haha. I had a traumatic childhood and I think it was extremely easy to relate to her struggles. I love how she choose herself. Ivypool told her that she shouldn’t be with the love of her life because she was being “selfish” for choosing her own happiness over her sister. She was told she should use her powers a certain way, become mates with Bumblestripe and have his kits and stay in a home where she didn’t feel safe and was miserable. When she was finally happy her sister ignored her. As someone who has no contact with an entire side of my family, I feel Dovewing’s pain so much. This M.A.P makes me so happy because it finally gave Dovewing a stage to express her emotions which I think a lot of people glance over. Thank you all to the amazing artist and animators for creating such a heartfelt animation ❤❤❤❤

Why did I not figure about this sooner? Anyways, I love the color palettes in this map! There so warm and work so well with the vibe and lighting! Í especially love BumbleStripes design…I never thought I’d say that but I did. Also FOR SOME. REASON. the color palette and bumbleStripe reminds me of the FreckleWish map : Maggot Belly. Despite the colors being a bit more warm than maggot belly, it still just feels similar!

Aaa that was beautiful!! I absolutely adore this map!! Everyone’s always calling Dovewing a “Mary Sue” and saying other things about her which are absolutely not true! Ivypool is constantly getting things showing her point of view and her emotions, and I’m so happy Dovewing finally got somehting like this. (No hate to Ivypool, she used to be my favorite character) There’s SO SO much more to Dovewing than people seem to notice though. The song choice is also amazing! It really fits Dovewing, and it definitely stirs up feelings inside me. It’s such a relatable and good song and im happy this map introduced me to it.

AHH ILOVE THIS SM!! Dovewings emotions in this are ACTUALLY clearly displayed, and so fitting with the song. It really shows how she struggles in thunderclan. The color scheme and animations are so gorgeous and I’m absolutely stunned by the amount of detail in this map!

This MAP is amazing. I’m a big Dovewing kinnie, I’ve only recently began to like her. I didn’t like her, but now I realize, she’s just like me. She doesn’t know where she fits in. She loves somebody she shouldn’t, when there’s someone else who likes her who she could simply settle for. But she doesn’t want to just settle. She wants to thrive. She wants to belong. But she doesn’t know how.

The answer is it came to me very, very suddenly in January of this year. I was working on another MAP concept at the time, and upon me listening to this song for the first time inspiration just struck. I love Dovewing, and this song just strikes a chord with her character. After listening, I began to weave threads of the story together, and pushed the visual by using association to come up with interesting motifs and symbolism (bugbear -> bug and bear -> honey -> nectar -> ambrosia, the nectar of the gods).

This map came out immensely gorgeous and I’m so glad to see it completed!! Ever since the map call I’ve absolutely loved the symbolism of the golden nectar and the sticky trap it creates with the overwhelming expectation of prophecy. Dovewing went through a lot and so much was expected of her and this map captured her fight perfectly. One of my all time favorite Warriors maps, mwah. The designs and colors are eye candy. The ending art of her and her family was so cute 😭

i love how magical and fantastical this map feels. theirs amber / honney / whatever it is fucking EVERYWHERE. everything is covered in lovely yellows and greens. the scribbly bear lingers all the time, it feels like its always watching in a way. its amazing.

WAIT I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH IT FITS HER SO WELL I DIDNT REALIZE- Yesterday I was listening to this song and I was like man I really want a map to be made with this song and MY WISHES CAME TRUE Dovewing is one of my favorite characters, same with Ivypool. I feel like they’re both really misunderstood and hated for no reason. I’ve always felt bad for Dovewing because she’s such a sweet character and she was really unhappy with the lifestyle everybody forced her into. She was always trying to make other happy but felt guilty when she was finally happy herself. I totally ship Tigerheart x Dovewing, it’s just so sweet and Tiger always loved to listen to her thoughts and feelings while other cats didn’t. I love this map, it’s really smooth and the song and the bear that haunts her and just- AH ITS GREAT?! Amazing job to all the animators and hosts of this map, you all did an amazing job, this totally made my week ❤️
