Can you use an amp without a cab with this PS1? The answer is YES, YOU CAN! The Bugera manual say: ""ATENTION! to avoid damage to your amp, never use a valve amplifier without a load connected, such as PS1 and/or a loudspeaker"" So the SP1 is like a loudspeaker. The Jettenuator wich is the original atenuator that the SP1 is based, and the manual say: "OUT SPEAKER - connect to your speaker cabinet to hear your am- plifier as normal. Jettenuator is a full-load device, so it is not necessary to use this connector in all applications. Note a reduction in output level of approximately -3dB even with the level set at 9 is inherent to the design of Jettenuator. If a speaker is not connected, set the Jettenuator control at 2 to provide the proper ohm load on your amplier’s output." The Harley Benton PA-100 Power Attenuator, wich is another same clone of the Jettenuator say: ""[Out Speaker] Output jack for connecting a passive speaker box. The device can be used as a load resistor when operated with tube amps without speaker box. If you do not connect a loudspeaker and use one of the other two outputs set the knob to ‘2’ - '3'"" ...your wellcome

speaker cab? does it have to be a cab? why did you say that, can it be be a built in speaker?
@swmorgan5156 жыл бұрын
Really could have used more demonstration of the features. I want to buy this, but Harley Benton makes a very similar device that has major issues with the line out function (line out control does nothing, speaker must be loud for line out to send signal). Wanted to confirm that is not the case on this unit. This cheese-ball superficial marketing has really done nothing to help me decide.
@kenmasters0075 жыл бұрын
Do you have this problem? I understand you need a load box or have the speaker plugged in for the line lvl to work....
@blinedriver5 жыл бұрын
In the video that demonstrates that issue, he was not using it correctly. The speaker is supposed to be disconnected, attenuation control on 2 then it works as designed.

Yeah I ordered 1 from Sweetwater a month ago and just found out it might not ship until the middle of December. How about building a few and ship them out? Why bother to advertise a product that you don't actually have available?

Hi: Can it be used as a dummy box (load box)? Thanks
@ParthPandya19926 жыл бұрын
NO! This is NOT a loadbox so please don't plug in you amp alone into this without connecting a cabinet as well. This is simply a passive attenuator that will require a load to be plugged in.
@jbcholbi5 жыл бұрын
@@ParthPandya1992 Are you sure the manual say: (ATENTION! to avoid damage to your amp, never use a valve amplifier without a load connected, such as PS1 AND/OR a loudspeaker) they say "AND/OR". I understund tha you can connect a PS1 or a loudspeaker... that means a PS1 without any loudspeaaker. I think...
@blinedriver5 жыл бұрын
@@ParthPandya1992 According to Thomann.de it can be used this way as is advertised on the Jet City and Harley Benton (same design) attenuators. As per the website: "Dummy Load (usable without cabinet)? Yes". From the design, the resistors are across the load so it would be safe to use without a speaker connected. I believe the attenuation control should be set at 20 when doing this.

Can you use an amp without a cab with this PS1?
@MrDulvalius697 жыл бұрын
vaig4 no, this goes between the amp head and speaker cabinet. this is mainly for amps that dont have gain knobs and needs the power tube section cranked to get natural.awesome distortion tone. the problem is that to do that, you will blow out your ears and your neighbours wont be happy. so this will acheive that at a low volume price so you can max your amp out in volume, get tgat distorted tone from your power tubes and be able to turn it down to bedroom levels or even rehearsal/stage lvls with this.

I know how it works. Ijust wanted to hear my 2 amps with IR's without hear my current cabs.
@swmorgan5156 жыл бұрын
Good question. I am wondering the same thing, but can't find any confirmation that it works as a dummy load in Bugera's material. Worst case, I suppose you can just have it on the lowest volume while using the "line out" to go direct.
@ozzyozb15 жыл бұрын
MrDulvalius69 then why does it advertise any tube amp? I have a Marshall DSL40CR and just ordered it. So your saying it won’t work.

YES, YOU CAN! The only thing you need to do is to put the attenuator knob to 2, If you don't connect your cab. The Bugera manual say: ""ATENTION! to avoid damage to your amp, never use a valve amplifier without a load connected, such as PS1 and/or a loudspeaker"" So the SP1 is like a loudspeaker. Just bought one.Hooked up my Marshall 1959 SLP to it running at 16 OHMS and It lasted about 15 minutes before it overheated and shut down. I guess PS1 stands for "Piece of shit one" . Do not buy it. It has good reviews but give it time and see how quick that changes.

One of the reasons a cranked amp sounds better is that it's louder and humans like louder sounds better (up to the point where it starts hurting) so a bedroom level sound won't sound much better with power tube distortion.
@CuttinEJ7 жыл бұрын
Luca Borgonovo that's not right. The reason it sounds good is because of the characteristics of the sound waves produced by driving the tubes hard. This allows the preamp and power amp tubes to be driven that hard without a volume so high that your neighbors can't tolerate it.

You're both right. The ear is not a lab device, & most people do find sounds more aesthetically pleasing at a certain volume threshold. Whether that's "too loud" is indeed subjective.
