You could fit a few more packets of hand warmers in there...

I'm curious if you have ever used any of those Mylar "shelter" items. The SOL bivy, the tent, the poncho, etc. Having tested my similar bag over several days in the mountains, if it is cold, these are unbelievably uncomfortable, loud, and not warm enough. Most of your gear looks brand new. Have you tested any of it in the field?

Exactly the kind of guy I would be looking for if S**t hit the fan and I was cruising with 15 lbs on my back and looking to restock my supplies. "Get home bag"? You're a target dude. Those hand warmers aren't going to be enough...

I hear ‘get home bag’ or bugout bag a lot. Aren’t we all really after an all purposes emergency bag? How can people guarantee that the potential emergency isn’t something you have to get away from your home? I live in a high risk bushfire area with the constant very real possibility of my entire area going up in flames. Other family members have lived through big earthquakes where other people had lost everything and had to evacuate in a matter of minutes. I prefer the concept of an all purpose emergency bag. As always there are some great ideas as with your video and it helps for all of us to share ideas..

Love the poncho liner bedspread - mine is 40 years old and still used nightly. Just ordered a new one as my wife and the chihuahua both fight me for it

The Rush 72 for a "get home" bag? Don't get me wrong....totally cool to be prepared etc but the 72 is monster big enough for 3-5 days! That kind of volume seems better suited to a "bug out" bag or purpose built muli-day camping backpack like my Osprey 65 liter pack when I want stove, food, fuel, tent, water, sleeping bag, thermarest, extra layers, etc etc. (I'd hate to carry your BOB!!) :-) I find the Rush 12 is way bigger than I need for a very well appointed "get home" kit but then again I only have a 30 mile commute. In terms of what I might realistically encounter (breakdown, snow closures, power outages etc) that means a GHB is pretty minimal with things like phone, AAA card, multi-tool, cash, water bottle, flashlight, and very minimal emergency gear like chem lights, road flare, thermal blanket, IFAK, and good book to ease the wait.

My thought. GET HOME BAG What You Should Have In A Get Home Bag (A get home bag is not a bug out bag. It is a bag for emergency self rescue. As you can see I left out a fire kit. Are you trying to get home or go camping?) 1.) Helmet. Protecting your head is easential when you are fighting the elements when exposed to disasters. Falling and flying debris from civil unrest, storms, terrorist blast effects. 2.) Heavy duty painters mask. It will protect your lungs from debris and particles in the air as you make your way out of an effected area. 3.) Safety goggles. If you can't see because something went into your eyes makes it almost impossible for you to help yourself. 4.) Heavy duty workman's gloves. Removing rubble and glass maybe the only way you can get yourself or others free. 5 ) Crow bar. You may have to pry or break your way out. 6.) Hatchet or a cable/chain cutter. Multi tool, knife. 7.) Trauma kit with turnicate or blood stop. To buy you time to get to a hospital. Get home bag is get to help bag as well. Pepto bismol pills. Energy bars. Gatorade powder. 8.) Hand crank FM radio/flashlight/cell phone charger combo. 9.) Headlamp for handsfree lighting. 10.) Safety reflect jacket. Hate to be hit by a car walking on the side of the road. 11.) Wool blanket to wrap yourself or other from going into shock. 12.) Mace and compact handgun. 13.) Rain coat or jacket. 14.) Large water canteen.

I have one of those cheap, knockoff batons. Strike a hard object just once and watch how fast it bends and will never collapse again. If you can find a Bonowi Camlock baton, they are incredibly strong and well made. The German police forces use them and they can be opened and closed discreetly with one hand and do not require slamming the tip against the concrete to collapse it. They're amazing batons.

I just wonder how heavy is the bag. And also why the US people need to toothbrush, etc.. My main concern will be GET HOME and not looking into the mirror, and not taking care of my teeth. :-)

Actually... for the room It takes.. having a tooth brush can be a good moral booster. A healthy mouth is no small thing. Besides.. not all scenarios are "worst case"... if your car breaks down you might find your way to a motel eventually.

I don't no why everyone is so concerned with the weight. If it truly is a disaster of sorts with no guarantee if you'll be getting home better to have than have not.he might not have to carry far.but might end up stuck on the camp for weeks.wouldnt it be nice to have? Also if he has to hike a long way he could also just dump some shit.

Cool bag and lots of cool stuff, however it may be too much, IMHO. I had to rethink my get-home-bag recently after wearing mine for a few hours and realizing it wouldn't work. I had a single strap black bag and it was uncomfortable to wear for any length of time and looked too tactical. I'm taking the "gray-man" approach and changed it to a small unassuming REI hiking backpack. I have to assume if I'm walking home, so are tons of other unprepared people who would love to take all our good stuff in a panic! I ended up taking out everything except the essentials for me to get home and it became lighter, more maneuverable (in case running is involved), and much more comfortable to wear for hours at a time. I hope I never have to use it!

Have you ever spent 1 night in the woods? All your stuff is Brand New and unused? 90% of that stuff is garbage. When an emergency comes along, do yourself and throw that whole bag in the creek and just walk home, cause you know your ass ain't sleeping in the woods. Learn to Crawl before you walk, I like towards the end of the video you were talking about how you might have to free someone who's trapped with your BK Knife, come on now, you damn sure ain't staying around a catastrophe rescuing people, SMH..

I really do enjoy your videos so don't take what I'm about to say too hard, but do you ever use any of the stuff you have? You kind of remind me of a guy I know that is just a gear hound. He owns one of everything and has no practical knowledge of any of it. None of your stuff looks used at all. I would love to see some vids showing your skills, all of the gear in the world means nothing if you don't know how to use it. Like I said, really like your vids.

Doug Wilson I mean it's not really about how fast you can get home it's about how safe you can make it home you could be 50-60 miles away from your house and it can take you a couple days to get there but you have to travel countless hours you just need a little bit of rest and and sthf situation but some of the stuff he has like the fake knock-off asp is not going to do much against someone that has a gun

Lol, I don't need a gun. Some people just think when the world goes to shit, everyone is going to be respectful and polite, asking to borrow a cup a sugar. No, their just gonna try to cut your arms off with a machete or shoot you point blank in the face with a shotgun, just so they can get the backwash left in your Dasani bottle. Jesus, if something does happen, Americans are finally gonna see what happens every day in third world countries and it's gonna be a rude awakening to realize how ruthless another human being can be.

You should include some gun. This baton does not give you any range that you should keep in case of thread. Also heading back home you can be attacked by an animal, it's hard to defend with knife and metal telescopic toy.

The only draw back to this pack is the hip belt. It isn't all that. I found a solution!!! For $20 on Amazon you can get the CONDOR GEN2 BATTLE BELT. It attaches right to the existing hip belt perfectly through the Velcro flaps on the battle belt. I use mine regularly for miles at a time. Ranging from 35-50lbs of gear. And I am 6'2 265

The backpack is the only thing cool about this video, everything is so overkill and heavy. I have the same bag and with my survival gear it only weighs in at 29 lb (that's with 2 extra large smart bottles of water and a 2 liter bladder full of water) , making it easy to treck along for many miles. his bag there have over kill items and even double, triple items that do the same thing and his pack must weigh in at 50-60 lbs.. you going ain't traveling far with that.

It takes about 8 hours to walk 20 miles, if you don't have a big heavy pack on your back, so just walk home. If you check the weather warnings regularly you can get home before the "weather event" happens. If you are forced to stay somewhere overnight and the shops are going to be closed then you are going to need a bottle of wine or spirit of choice surely. And a pack of cards.

They've made an update to this pack, and I'm not quite sure I like it. There is a fold out slotted something or other type mesh pouch that tips out for more storage, which then can be cinched down. It's open though. This tactical bag supposedly was to have a place to carry a "helmet". Nice try.

You over packed for a get home bag at the most this is a bug out bag because of the stuff you have in it and I like the camo bag but go more simple like an old school bag or a normal backpack. Simple stuff guys and in my survival/bug out bag I have half of this stuff and it's all light weight and the only thing sticking out is my Swedish army cooking pot and fire pot. Just keep it simple guys and you don't need all this food. Hunt for it. Good luck :)

i think you have bag well thought out except for a couple things. in a get home type emergency you might want to separate some of those things into what you can carry on your person without the bag, should the bag become a hindrance or get stolen. the baton, pry bar knife, multi-tool, firearm if you carry. when you make your assessment of how bad things just got, you can as always inventory your items. the stuff in one particular section should be stuff you attach to yourself. if your friend want coffee or you want to be able to access stuff just cause you want something, have that in another pouch. also if you want to access that stuff in front of some people you can do it without them seeing everything in there. in another part of the bag put the perishables. the sandwiches, cliff bars, five hour. i have learned from personnel experience that you can buy a five hour today, and in the heat the bottle will be swollen tomorrow. things like that need to be rotated frequently. and lastly, my bag changes with the time of year. i live in the right coast so in the summer i'm not going to see ice. that may be different for higher altitudes though. i don't screw with gps's. you forget to change the batteries or charge it. compasses are useless unless you know the area without a map. i'm pretty sure that the gps cant give you as good a clue to where your at as a map. simple fix, go somewhere new stop by a gas station and mark where that gas station is in the parking lot. keep it in your trunk. the radio, i don't see as necessary. if your with someone you don't split up. i am using the much more expensive motorola on a nightly basis right now and that only has a 3/4 mile range in a straight line. upgrade to something that needs an amateur license so you can hear emergency bands. just my 2 cents take it or leave it.

I've been trying to find a pack I really like with the organization I need for my gear. I really want a hip belt 45L capacity with side pouches for a GI-style water bottle. The best I've found for the organization has sadly been the Outdoors Quest pack sold at Walmart, but its capacity is around 30L. It's almost perfect, but I want more capacity, a hip belt, a hatchet loop, and some bottom straps for a blanket roll. Still searching, but I've not found a perfect pack.
