Great Review, Thanks ! FYI - I purchased the "5.11 Tactical Rush Tier System" on amazon. Consists of a set of 4 buckle straps you can use to attach the MOAB bags, for example. I also use them as compression straps on my Rush24.. makes a HUGE difference in comfort and useability.

No problem.. I've had my Rush 24 for only two months, purchased for an Adirondack adventure - so I really put it through its paces in a short period... though I must say I hope my pack never encounters bear-cub claws. That must have made for a helluvagood story. My pack is still very stiff, but even so - I would NOT have been happy with mine without some type of compression system. Must say that I smiled to hear your same experience. My Rush24 is now my EDC bag and glad to hear it will last another (at least) year or two. Cheers !

Bonus: You can fit 48 cans of beer in this bag. I know this, because I don't have a car, but do have a liquor wholesaler within hiking distance. The first case, you put in whole. The second case, you break up into two six-packs and 12 single cans. Theoretically you could carry a third (and maybe a fourth) case in your hands... but I'd hate doing a two-mile hike with that much load.

The incredible durability made me a fan too. I carried the MOAB 6 for almost a year and the MOAB 10 for maybe 6 months before I decided to buy the rush 24, and they are both also in nearly perfect condition. I also own the Triad, but I've barely used it. That one ended up packed with emergency items and might someday serve the roll of a bug out bag (let's hope not, but I do believe in being prepared).... I've had mine for maybe 12 years and I agree completely with every point here. The front org really is the weak point, it tries to be everything to all people. EXTREMELY durable. Only when I overloaded it did the yoke tear, but that was only the "trim" layer of nylon. The strap was fine. Then sone chemicals and weight weakened a lower seam. I repaired that. I might just keep using it, although I like the updated features of the 2.0

Thanks for watching! This bag is indestructible. You won't be disappointed with the durability... Pick up a set of the straps to use as compression straps and that will help a lot. Now and then I think that the big pocket in the front (the one I mentioned is interfered with by the bottom pocket in the inside compartment) should have had a piece of plastic like the water bladder compartment has. That might be a good idea for a modification for yours when it starts to soften up.

Great long term review. I’ve been carrying the same 24 bag for several years, mostly loaded with my work stuff (basically field technician: laptop, multimeters, small tools, iPad, etc) and I can totally relate with the broken-in floppiness. Going on 13 + years with mine..can’t remember when I actually bought it but a pic shows I had it in late 2007. 7 different countries, 39 states, multiple camping trips , multiple outings and of course the mule of my work tote. I broke a buckle a few years back but 5.11 immediately sent me a new one. It is a perfect bag for my needs but I do hate that my pens don’t stay in their slots.

I have been eyeballing the Rush 24 backpack for over a year now. I finally decided to buy it, it was already in my basket at the online store but I decided to sleep on it and check more videos. Boy, am I glad I came across your video! I have read reviews and watched other videos before and I had no doubt in my mind that this bag is very well built. I even got over the lack of proper contraption straps (which was also repeatedly mentioned in reviews). However, the very reason I became interested in the Rush 24 was the front admin pouch which looked so well designed and organized, perfect for the many small things I carry, so I thought. Non of the reviews mentioned the concerns you did, probably because most reviewers didn't break in the bag beforehand. Thank you very much for this review, you have probably saved me a huge disappointment. And so my search continues...

I'm not hoping to cost 5.11 any sales on this bag, but I really would like to see them stiffen that admin pouch with a plastic sheet like they use in the water bladder pouch. It drives me crazy. I've been carrying a bag with zero admin pouch for a few months now and using a couple of separate organizer pouches and stuff sacks with it. While the simplicity has been nice, I'm not sure it's exactly what I want either. I'm finding myself on Maxpedition and Tru-Specs websites pretty often lately ;)

Very nice review, I've had my Rush 24 about a year and it's still awesome - I do agree about some of the points like the front organisation if the material goes soft, I'll be buying those tactical rush tier system compression straps for future wear. It is pretty much indestructible and a great carry bag, it's been with me almost every day (pre-lockdown), to work and to the gym, on holiday, amazing as a carry-on overhead luggage bag and trekking on holiday

Thank you! I have had my Rush24 for about 6-7 months now, and couldn't quite put my finger on what what's making me so crazy about it. I refer to it as "The Old Man" as it has gotten saggy like we all do as we get old. I carry a lot of little things, and it looks like a pot belly stove on my back. I found they sell the straps now without having to buy a MOAB bag, so I may try some of those before I abandon the bag altogether. Wish I had seen this review before I got my 24.

Spot on review. I've had my Rush 24 with me for a while now and I think your analysis is very accurate. I've used it as my sole backpacking bag across 20+ countries and when carrying heavier loads (20kg+), I've found myself needing a waist belt, which I ended up purchasing online. The compression straps are useless, and I look forward to using the moab straps I ordered after seeing your video. I'm a huge fan of the durability and quality of the bag - it's one of the only pieces of kit I have which I know won't fail. The bag overall is rugged, durable and in a black colourway, has a relatively subdued but tough look. One of my best purchases, dollar for dollar.

Hi Dude, I have have a rush 24, I carried for a year bloody awesome bit of kit. I carried it to work and around the world with my job can't fault it. yes it softens up but packed correctly its still awesome. I do however agree with you that it needs some lower compression straps of which I have added but wow what a bag I have now got the Rush 12 as an everyday bag and its as awesome in build quality and ability. Been doing this shit since 82 way before it become fashionable and in my opinion this Rush 24 Rocks cheers for the review

Loved the review. Far better than all the rest that just bought the pack. None of them have field tested like yourself. I bought this pack today (sandstone) to help me hunt feral pigs and wild deer in Australia. As well as buying the pack i also bought that tier system with extra straps due to your appraisal and put them on. Unlike you i might never use the pack enough for the pack to get 'soggy' enough to notice, but with the extra extension straps it will always hold it' s backbone. Thanks heaps cobber. Sir... To fix the "organizer" just cut a piece of plastic (like from a "5 liters water container" or something like that) than "glue and stitch it in place" on the back of the panel (do it the right size to "keep the bag distended"); problem solved.

Nice job showing the details of the bag and how you use it. I would agree that 5.11 should include the Tier System straps with all Rush bags as they do with the MOAB. That seemed to be the bulk of your "Hate" side of your relationship. You really harped on that point and implied that the only way to get the straps was to buy a MOAB when in reality for $15 Amazon will put a set of 4 on your front porch in 2 days. I was also surprised to hear your concern about the front administrative pouch, is it much different from the MOAB 10? I ask because I have both a MOAB 10 and 6 as well as a Rush 12 and those pockets work well for a variety of items both large and small.

By the way, the Condor Battle Belt, with a 1.5 inch tactical belt inside it, works great as a hip support belt. It fits perfectly, and takes so much of the weight off the shoulders, transforming this in to a much more comfortable backpack...

The plastic plate in my 12 disintegrated, just got brittle and went to pieces. I keep a space blanket and a 200 litre bin liner there, it's stiff enough for the smaller bag.

The size is correct for a Day Pack in the wilderness ! Remember "The Ten Essentials" by the Seattle Mountaineers. A Day Pack will keep you safe overnight and bring you home the next day. My Go Bag/Get Home Bag is the Maxpedition Laptop Backpack bag that fits a 17" or smaller laptop. And the large inside pockets fit NIJ Level IIIA Backpack Armor and give more padding to the laptop. tjl

This Rush 24 has been perfect for overnighters and 2 night out trips. The webbing on the bottom allowing me to strap my bedroll to the bottom of the pack means most of my shelter items aren't taking up space inside the bag so I can carry more food and an extra pair of socks and maybe my rain gear just in case. Over all, this bag has served me very well. While using it as a day to day bag and using it to carry some of the things I need to do business, it hasn't excelled so much with the organization pocket in the front not being too great after it breaks in. I'd still recommend this one... And I'm still looking for waht I'm replacing it with. I'll check out that maxpedition you mentioned. Thanks!

You got the wrong bag. There's a difference between buying a quality bag and buying the RIGHT bag. If you find "all the stuff sinks to the bottom" and/or the bag "sags", the bag is too big for your needs. ANY soft sided bag will "sag" as the contents are what gives it shape.

I've been trying to find a pack I really like with organization I need for my my gear. I really want a hip belt 45L capacity with side pouches for a GI style water bottles. The best I've found for organization has sadly been the Outdoors Quest pack sold at Walmart, but it's capacity is around 30L. It's almost perfect accept for I want more capacity, a hip belt, a hatchet loop, and some bottom straps for a blanket roll. Still searching, but I've not found a perfect pack.

I think this review was totally useless...Until you fess up, what was in your drink?...lol. Seriously, a very good review. I'm not sure if this will help with the sagging, pens coming out, but I added a Condor water bottle holder to the front molles. I keep a bottle in it to sip or rinse/wash hands. I think the 72 will soften up eventually just like the 24 did for me. The front organization is a little bit different and the main compartment pockets are also different on the 72 (I don't own the 72 but I've looked at it several times in the local Sportsman's Warehouse). First, it has a hip belt, so you don't have to worry about that. Next, the compression straps on the 72 are placed different and are lower on the bag. I think that would be better than the 24, but I still think a set of the "tactical tier system" straps (the MOAB bag straps) would be beneficial to use as compression straps on such a large bag. Another viewer pointed out that the straps can be purchased by themselves and there is a link in the description to where to get them on amazon. The 5.11 Rush bags and the MOAB bags are incredibly durable. They'll take any abuse you can put them through and then some. I hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

After this backpack got famous and they made lot of money,they droped the quality down to make more money,since it will still sell like crazy.. Another problem with this backpack,is that if you load it up with stuff and become heavy,it doesn't have a waist belt to support it. I'm looking for similar,around 25-35 litters backpack,with a waist strap but most of all It has to be comfortable when its loaded.Does anyone know of a pack like this? Thanks in advance

No. They leave the webbing open. there are two plastic "hooks" (for lack of a better word) that attach to the webbing, but they don't fill it. On the front, the buckes would interfere, but the sides not really at all. I hope that helps!
