The real hunting experience complete with bugling elk, poison berry sauce and another freakin' grizzly bear.
Bugling elk is the highlight of any hunting trip but its the whole adventure in the woods that keeps us hooked. This trip we enjoyed a lot of wild berries including black currents and some sort of look-alike that we turned into poison berry sauce. Punctuated with another freakin' grizzly bear encounter, it seems that these things are a little too prevalent.

Correction, the plants with the thorns are gooseberries. The ones without thorns are currents. Gooseberries when ripe are mild to sweet. Currents when ripe are still tart. I have both types growing in my yard. Though where I live the gooseberries ripen quite a bit before the currents. Loved your reaction to them.

As a Hunter/Fisher living in BC, I have to say thanks for showing us all how to hunt well with a Family. I remember me and my family hunting Moose in NFLD. Valuable lessons for kids to be learning. I cannot get my kids/family motivated to get out in the bush so my hat is off to you mom and dad! Those girls were troopers, and handled their duties, and horses really well.

Those kinda looked like poke berries. My cousin and I decided to try them when we were 5 yrs old on our grandparents farm. When we got the bitter taste out of our mouths, we decided that the pigs would surely love them. After finding out what we had done our Papaw informed us that they are poisonous. We were so scared that we had killed the pigs and that we’d probably be dying soon! No deaths occurred, only severe diarrhea all around!!

Love your content as always fellas! For small game may i suggest PCP airgun, (considering bulpup style, it's very short to carry) But in bulpup world the trigger is kinda clumsy, so chose those who have dual stage trigger (or simply says "soft trigger"). The best is to using regulated system, with around 500cc bottle enough about 60 shot .25cal, 950fps. Just buy standart PCP hand pump to refill, no need scuba tank first, as there's a lot of "powerfull hand" to pump in the house 😁😁 Airgun are very efficient for small game since pellet price very cheap, less recoil easy to aim, less bark sound, and almost no need to clean the barrel since there's no burning powder. If you already have one, than that's very nice. Thanks to keep sharing love to community!

You're so so right about the fun part of hunting being the whole experience, and not just about the kill. This great video is proof, right? 🙂 You're daughter (and anyone else), shouldn't rest the barrel on the stand. It will mess with the harmonics and could throw off accuracy. Especially over 100yds. Rest the fore end of the stock. Keeps the barrel free floated. As for the stove, I used a biolight, and hate it. I switched to the Firebox gen 2 and love it to death. Burns wicked hot when you stuff it, don't have to take the pot off to feed it, and with the two side ports, you can cross over sticks and actually get a little control over the heat. With some practice you can even simmer on it. It's possible to do a Swedish torch and get a steady burn for a pretty long time, and it's made of such solid steel that it'll last for generations. It's a little bigger too, which is great for multiple people.....and no stupid fan. Always a treat to wake up and find you guys on my list.

Barrel harmonics are only effected if the gun is fired .. if you watched the video you will notice the rifle was never fired.. I would bet cash money that everyone of those girls are aware of how to properly fire a rifle just saying not being mean or disrespectful.. because Your 100% correct In your statement

The point of the Biolight is to generate power which the Firebox does not do.

Gregory Thomas Actually no, that's a side benefit. There is very very little electricity generated. The point is that it's a wood gasifier stove that uses forced air to generate a clean burning flame. ....in theory. I don't care if it makes enough to charge a phone in 6 hours. I care about how well it works as a stove, and it's finicky, it doesn't burn long without feeding it, and worst of all, it requires removing the food everytime you feed it, which is really often with such a small burn chamber. The only good thing about it, if you got the BBQ attachment, is that added (and expensive part) option.

At that range it wont matter one bit. Many rifle makers actually put a pressure point at the front of the forearm just under the barrel so free floating isn't always the rule. Glass bedding used to be big in the accuracy crowd in fact. I suspect if they were really trying to get long-range bench-rest (as opposed to hunting) accuracy, they would just thread the BOSS tuners back on and play with harmonics to no end.

Bugling elk is the most fun thing in the world. I hope those aren't the only bulls I see this year. I have been there with almost legal bulls, at least he gave you time and opportunity to count. I have let ones go that I was pretty sure were legal but could not verify 100 percent and they weren't giving me a second chance to count. Thanks for sharing this it has my juices flowing and we finally had a cool night last night ( in the south okanagan)so might be able to get out hunting soon. What a great thing to be able to share with your girls. I was able to take my daughter out and had a herd of elk run by us at 20 yards, a true lifetime experience (unfortunately no bulls).

Those current bushes with the spikes on the stems look like black gooseberry, where as the smooth ones I'm certain are northern blackcurrent - which taste awful :p Compare ribes lacustre to ribes hudsonianum, 99% sure the girls didn't nearly kill you!
