Hi, hopefully I will be retiring in 8 years when I turn 60…I’ve been living and working in New York as a nurse for 30 years now… im planning to retire in Vegas, where taxes are less and life is more laid back..I have nothing to return to in the Philippines..I have a few friends, but that’s it..I’m single and my only son is here with me in the US..I will go visit the Philippines once in a while, but my life is really now here in the US, and I’m happy with that!

It's a case to case basis. Yes, it varies from our experiences. You are all correct because there is truth in what each person have been through. Some people can dismiss the kabastusan ng mga pinoys on the road. And the never-ending road repairs that really do not need repair. Then some pinoys are masochists, they love experiencing the pain of bureaucracy, slow justice system, the outright stupidity of pinoys in playing karaokes, videokes, sound system with scant regard to people sleeping at midnight. Pure rudeness and even clueless. Oh, the chaos in Avenida and EDSA. It is hell. Pinoys are racists too. We have low impression of the other pinoy's ethnicity. Kapampangans look down on Tagalogs, the latter look down on... Name it. In Visayas Cebuanos look down on... Well, you think only Americans are racists? In the US, of course, there problems are... Name it. In Ph, government employees, when you process documents, will give you the back and forth. Slow slow slow. And you can see these employees enjoying the kakanin delivered by vendors as ordinary pinoys languish in the waiting area wondering when their papers will be handed to them. So, to each his own, it would just depend on problems your personality can take. I wish the best wherever your heart may find the serenity and love. Good luck to all.

@@janice8523 Hello! I’ve been living in Las Vegas for almost thirty years! I lived in Los Angeles most of my life, but after the big earthquake in 1994, we decided to move over here and be closer to my mom. We enjoy the better quality of life for us. We actually live in Henderson, which is just outside Vegas and where most of our family lives. I never thought we’d ever leave LA, but I don’t regret moving here. It’s very senior friendly and lots to do, beyond the Strip. Lots of nice parks, senior centers, hospitals nearby, entertainment etc. I wish you the very best!

I recently retired to the Philippines after living 50 years in the USA. I settled here because my retirement money goes a lot further. Imagine $1000 is more than enough for one person on a monthly basis, its why I can afford to go Business class everytime I go back to the the USA for a vacation. It also helps that i'm considered a senior citizen cause you get a big discount in restaurants, you get to watch movies for free and you get to go to the front of any line, seniors are the priority. I've only lived here for 1.5 years now and have assimilated to the culture and way of life. The only thing that makes my blood boil is the lack of discipline with regards to the driving here especialyy those pesky motorcycle riders.

I admire Filipinos who can retire in the Philippines. For me, it's too hot and humid to live there. Some relatives came back to the States, as they could not handle the heat etc. One retired in Florida as it might be hot in Florida too but at least he said he could afford AC. Something too expensive in PH.

AC in Philippines is like 64k pesos which is around 1.2k USD and most stores include free delivery as well as installation. The price per month I have it running all day is SO MUCH cheaper than paying what I be paying in the US. There’s no way they couldn’t afford a AC in Philippines. Lol

Not perfect but healthcare sucks. Questionable medical knowledge specially in the provinces. Make sure you have at least $30K for each person in case you need major surgery. Insurance for 70 yrs old is around $400 a month per person with limited coverage & goes up as you aged. Crowded, traffic is horrendous, Lot of red tapes, inconveniences, electricity is the highest in Asia, Imported items are double or triple the price & more.

@@JunRoss-pp3mv That's the most important thing to consider prior to deciding in moving back to the Philippines, HEALTHCARE. Hende naman sa pag down sa atin bayan pero pagdating sa processo sa ospital o alin man bagay ay hende pa rin nabago yon mabagal na processo due to complicated bureaucratic system. Also, I noticed sa atin mga kababayan na most don't "think outside the box" to facilitate a task, instead rely on the sequence listed in their requirements, prior to proceeding to a next task.

Oh, you're definitely going to miss A LOT!! I only got to live there for a couple of years during the 80's and there's not a day that goes by that I don't miss living in the US. Simple and yet peaceful. Hardly surrounding toxicity. That's why I still go back from time to time every chance I get. People saying that's it's more happy to live in the Philippines, haven't really found true happiness. Happiness comes from within. Happiness DOES NOT depend on the place you're staying at or the people around you (whether family or friends).

I will never retire in the Philippines. Visit, yes, but retire completely, nope. Poor infrastructures, the most expensive and inefficient utilities in Southeast Asia, rampant corruption, terrible poverty and inequality, very expensive medical care, non existent judiciary system, very hot and humid. Plus, the coming war between China and Taiwan. Best place to retire in Southeast Asia are Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam. Not the Philippines. What you should do is split your time between the Philippines and the US. And make sure you have a backup plan to leave the Philippines immediately.

I totally agree with your current observations and foresight. It is a matter of when not if China will invade Taiwan. China will do it soon to save face and save their collapsing economy. Always have a plan B or an exit strategy. I retired in Southern California 17 years ago, I am 55 now. Living in SoCal is like living in US & Philippines at the same time without the humidity and inconveniences. I also lived in NorCal for 3 years but it is not for me, boring there compared to SoCal.I can only last up to 3-4 weeks in the Philippines, it is too crazy and hot/humid plus over 20 typhoons a year! I have to go back to SoCal to get my sanity and peace of mind back! It is actually more fun in SoCal than the Philippines! We also have all the authentic Mexican, Filipino, Asian, and other ethnic foods in SoCal. We are close to Mexico and a 45 minute flight away from Vegas. Planned my retirement and totally debt-free and house;/cars are paid off. All of my retirement accounts, precious metals, investments, real estate and superb healthcare are in USA. Now, if I only had SS income, I won't have a choice but to retire in the Philippines. Most(not all) of those who retire in the Philippines, including Americans, retire in Pinas because it is the only place they can afford where cost of living/housing is cheaper.😊

Hi Gi! I don’t know how your channel ended up on my feed, but I was pleasantly surprised to watch a few of your videos! You are a sweet and sincere person, and I wish you and your hubby the very best on your decision to retire in the Philippines! I was born and raised in the States,so my experiences are different from yours. My parents came to San Diego, California in 1959 where I born. My parents are native Filipinos and wanted a better life for us. However, after my father retired from the navy, he moved us to the Philippines when I was only 12 years old and my brother was 10. It was completely culture shock for me and my brother, because we were raised stateside, plus we didn’t even speak Tagalog or know too much about our culture. We only lived there for 3 years in the mid 1970’s, and moved back to California. I will always cherish my short stay in the Philippines because I made wonderful friendships, got to meet my relatives, learn Tagalog, and embrace my Filipino culture! Since I’ve lived in the states almost my entire life, America will always be my true home. This is where I am from, where I met my hubby, and raised my son and my immediate family all live. However, I am proud to be a Filipino, and I will always be grateful for getting to live in the Philippines for a short time. I had very fond memories ❤

No, AC cost is not even expensive, I got one running all day downstairs and it cost us about $250 a month during the Summer. I did worst than than living in Arizona. Also, there are so much more food options and delivery services here unlike the states its so far just to get food and Chinese restaurants have generic type food menus, here is a smorgasmorg of China on the plate. We also, like the out doors here and although we live near Manila, we often just take a plane to one of the other islands like Cebu, Palawan and Bohol for vacation. On top of that, any service here is dirt cheap like plumbing, car wash, hair cuts and pet sitting. I even got my own driver too now. Hahahaha!

We tested the water there and retired early and lasted 2 years in 2015. Aging with the need for quick, adequate and affordable medical treatment made us go back to the States. Pneumonia hospitalization there for 2 weeks was almost $20,000 in US dollars. Our nextdoor Neighbor was going through kidney dialysis and was paying $400 dollars per session weekly (21,000 php) to a point he no longer can afford it. It would have been possible if we were much younger but as we aged, we knew we had to be in the U.S.

Do you have a background in video production? (I do!) This is a well-put-together video! Nice shots...and editing. I'm a recently-retired Filipino-American guy married to a non-Filipino wife (OK...she's White, from the midwest! LOL) We're seriously thinking of moving to/living part-time in the Philippines after she retires from her longtime teaching job next year. You've brought up some great points regarding things most likely to be missed by moving to the P-I. My wife and I have thought about many of these same things. But we also know that these "missed" things can easily be replaced by new things/landmarks/places. PS-my late mom was a long-time RN. PS2--I half-jokingly (but actually, seriously) tell my wife I would seriously miss authentic Mexican food!

😂You're funny! But no, I don't have a background in video production. It's all self-thought. Thanks for your kind words. Every Filipino has a PInoy RN in the family/clan, for sure! hahaha! It's true there are lots to be missed in the States, but that's fine, there is no perfect set up. It's really just what we make of what we have. I'm sure you'll thrive wherever you decide to retire. Thanks for watching!

Why would you retire in the Philippines if you're doing good & fully assimilated in the states? Well, it seems you're in CA where the standard of living is so high & the politics became toxic & unbearable, but there are other places in the states like in the east (FL) or south TX) that are more retirees-friendly, particularly giving more "value" with your retirement funds. I'm not saying our homeland is bad to retire but I just can't imagine going back & start all over again. Moreover, the weather & pollution in the Philippines why I reconsidered to just stay put in the states ..just my 2 cents :)

I retired from the same area as Ate, and moved to Makati 5 years ago. I would say the #1 reason was stress. Life in the US is very stressful, even if you have money and live in the SF Bday area. There is constant micro aggression and occasional outright racism. Life in the Philippines, again if you have some money, is much less stressful and joyful. No arguments in the parking lot and running every day errands like grocery shopping, going to the bank, dental office, cafes, etc. is much less stressful. The level of service in the Philippines is much higher, and no one is demanding a 25 to 30% tip from you. When you go to the grocery store in the Philippines, one or two young men will be happy to help you box up your purchases and then carry them for you to your car or even to your condo! It's amazing...no way that ever happens in the Bay area.

My Mom came to the US in 1990 and she passed last 2013. I came in 2005 and is still here in CA. Mommy told me that she misses the water pressure and hot water when she goes home to Bacolod. Every time I am asked what I miss from here is not much. I went home almost every two years since solo ako. There are now big stores as Landers and S&R sa Bacolod so I don’t think I would buy much since I prefer the local markets unless I crave US brands. I came when I was 40 years old so I am set in my ways. My sister-in-law managed to work as an RN in NY on the onset of Covid-19. Josmi! Grabe yung takot nya but she managed to perform well and was very much in demand that she is already talking early retirement in the near future. I am encouraging that they regain their PHL citizenship since nothing to lose naman. I have both my US and PHL passports tagged going in and out for vacation back home, just in case for concrete records. Invest kayo sa Maxicare back home because it is I think the most comprehensive in coverage at the best hospitals. I am sure going home is going to be an easy decision. Good luck.

My 2 cents. It's better to retire in a developed country. As you aged, you need the best medical care to live longer. Non compare to the US as far as medical knowledge & high tech life saving devices. Newly released meds are not available in Pinas. You have to self insure, pay for your health needs out of your pocket. Simple medical issue not a problem. When your issue is complicated & you need major surgery, it will cost you 1 to 1.5 million Pesos. My brother's father in law was confined for 3 weeks in ICU, he's total bill was $70,000.00. Dollars not Pesos.

24 years in the States. I'll miss the beaches of Hawaii I call my backyard for 14 years and my mom and sister, I will miss living next to the mall here in Washington State, the dog friendly park, but what I will not miss living here is the gloomy weather, my body likes the heat and my mental health likes the sun all year round. 10 years is living with SAD I can't do it anymore. 😮‍💨 Iba pa rin ang mga Pinoy sa Pilipinas, totoo talaga yung it's more fun in the Philippines, It's either move back to Hawaii or go straight to the Philippines. Why are you retiring here in the first place? I have been to SF as a tourist twice in the last six years and from the dirty BART trains and pervasive homelessness, the Bay Area was great!
