Referring to large HP industrial, marine and truck engines as you go up in rated hp you add or stack balancers or you tear them up, I think that what you are seeing is mostly undersized balancer capacity and the torque convertor equiped models are absorbing some of the crank flex etc, I would like to see you make a hub to be able to double and triple stack stock balancers to test for real cause

Going from what you found with bent rods and corresponding vehicles having manual transmissions it would be interesting to see the end float of these cranks, it might as be indicating a discrepancy in spacing of components with the manual transmissions being used, causing minor movement of the crank under high horsepower applications or possibly an added harmonic indifference. I’m not very familiar with these motors but keen to Learn more

I immediately thought, must be a manual… sure enough. Could it be that for these high power engines also stronger clutches are installed? And that the axial bearings can not withstand the extra pressure? Maybe the crankshaft is moving axial slightly when pushing the clutch. Look into better axial support instead of stronger rods. Saw this problem with a Volvo turbo red block. You could even see the movement of the crankshaft by eye (engine was shot)

Just a thought, high hp, manual box would need a heavy duty clutch. Would this be wearin the crankshaft thrust bearings causing the crankshaft to move back n fwd?
@Stale_Mahoney3 жыл бұрын
you mean when you engage the clutch that you worry you will physically push the crank forward?
@deetesmin3 жыл бұрын
@@Stale_Mahoney yes. It used to happen to Triumph 2.5 engines. I think they only had crank thrust bearings on either the top or bottom of the crank. The larger clutch, of this engine compared to the 2.0 engine, wore out the thrust bearings. The only symptom of this occurring was that it became difficult to engage gears from stationary, the crank moved so much that the clutch wouldn't fully disengage. I don't know the Merc engines crankshaft thrust bearing arrangement, so this was just an idea I had based on my own experience

Its beautiful because you guys literally. find the smallest things. and it makes life perfect. simple but Complex! Engineering the proper way. The issues could possibly be due to the transmissions that arent mercedes. I seen a guy ripping an om606 on the MB 6speed. The manual transmissions cause the crankpulleys to fly off! I fuckin love you dude. People complain but bro, do u realize what kind of flex that is? You're pulley flew off. you should be proud. Thanks guys. Those cylinder sleeves. about repairing or damage bore... i dont agree with sleeve install. oem blocks was aged on rain ,sun, snow for few years before they went into production. this is how cast iron get stiffines hardnes etc... if you replace it with sleeve no chance that this sleeve have same characteristics of material and hardness. just put bigger pistons inside and thats it.

You should work with Gail Banks in the USA he’s a top diesel tuner. Winning all sorts of land speed titles. He dose a liquid style damper that reduces the longitudinal and rotational harmonic shock the dampers for. This damper is not tuned to a single RPM. It works right through the Rev range!! I’ve contacted him and they don’t do any for the Mercedes 5/6 cylinder motors. Someone like you could link up with Banks! And fill the void of the lack of quality dampers for high power Diesel engines! That really could benefit greatly from this upgraded harmonic balancer!! Oh and I’d be your very first customer to buy this viscous liquid damper!!
