My take on bay window bench seat. Featuring hidden storage, recessed panels, Solid redwood bench top. This is an overview of the techniques I used to accomplish the job. If you are thinking about trying something like this, this may give you a few good ideas.

We’ve got an area exactly like this in master bath 2nd floor over front door. Always wanted just what you illustrated. Thanks!

Thank you. Your work inspired me to do something pretty similar for a bedroom. Nearly finished - about to start the oak top!

This is incredible! Far and away the best build I've seen on KZbin. Thank you so much for sharing this! I can't wait to try to do this at my place!

The 2x4's look like they were run over a jointer, everything is very flat. Did you use a jointer? Nice work.

Would you sell these, precut and ship if dimensions are provided? I love the bench with the wood top, no storage.

This is a custom fit install. No way to do this remotely with a list of dimensions. Building things on commission isn't my bag either. Thanks for watching though.

It looks beautiful but I sit in my bay window often to read so you may not use it for that...but some people actually do.

Those redwood floors look amazing! I was waiting for the finished product. I love redwood. Have a ton of 2x4s of it stored was thinking of doing my house like you did your bedroom.

Was not going tongue and groove. Was gonna do old fashioned square nails.

I really need to do a follow up. The floor turned out great, we love it. I just have no time right now, and I'm awful at making videos. I do intend to get to it. Just can't right now.

I did make them t & g, absolute ton of routing. But the results were better than I'd even hoped. I used a very unique method to install. Since the redwood is so soft, I don't think nails would be a good long term solution. So I used 2" finish nails through the tongues in a traditional way along with glue. The finish nails really just there to hold the floors right till the glue fully sets. My 2x4 boards were resawn on the band saw and planed to uniform thickness about 11/16ths. It was a ton of work, but the wood machines easily. End result were worth it. Finished over a year ago, floors are killer. Just tung oil finish. Buttery soft. Don't do it in a kitchen or dining room though.

Was thinking big nails and to soft redwood might not mix. Maybe a day on the router might have to be done next weekend.

@@snickerszn8459 yes, that was my fear too. I figured in a couple years even a little movement might widen and loosen the nails since redwood is so soft. Don't know if that was unfounded paranoia or not, But after 1 year, the glue with finish nails has been holding super tight. I used a cordless finish nail gun, and a cordless caulk gun (highly recommended) to speed things up. I didn't trust myself with troweling the glue and not making a giant mess of it. It was a little more costly that way and it took a lot of tubes of floor glue. But it went down beautifully.
