Dan Bradford I’ve had 2 different playthroughs with Hilda and she has been lackluster. Sylvain, on the other hand, has consistently been better. I realize I’ve just been screwed by RNG as I had a playthrough in which my Annette was outclassing my Lysithea.

I would divine pulse for ferdinand for bad level up. Even with that, sylvain was doing leap and bounds better than ferdinand. And ferdinand was just a pile of crap.

its all about picking the right abilities. use dimitri with batallian vantage wrath. and a killer bow. he gets near 100% crit on enemy turn. or sylvain with swift strikes.

Dorothea's one of the worst units in the game really. Her magic growth is anemic which makes her very weak even without the Dancer class's lack of a bonus. The only advantage she has over anyone else is the ability to equip meteor and give support boosts from halfway across the map. Her healing is below par, she doesn't have Restore so that she can aid your main healer if you need to get rid of poisons or debuffs, she has no decent utility spell like Warp, Rescue, or Silence, and if she gets targeted even once, her meteor support bonuses disappear so you've got to be extra careful to keep her away from enemy strikes. Unless you're doing a Crimson Rose run, Flayn is a far superior choice as her kit of Rescue, Fortify, and Restore are much more useful for giving your Dancer a little bit of utility as an emergency healer and rescuer of NPCs. If not, then Lindhardt. He's got Physic, Restore, and Warp.

Jon Smith She has physic. Thats pretty much the reason. And her spell kit works really well for long range casting. Another neat trick is using Thyrsus on her to manually lower her hp to defiant magic range. Overall just another physic bot. She’s better than flayn, if only for availability and long range heals.

For other houses, some good suggestions are: Dancer Dorothea High authority/gambit Edelgard Hubert for magic nukes or chip damage Petra or Dimitri for one shotting literally everything Dedue if you’re tired of taking damage

I actually evenly level all of my units because you never know when you might need a specific backup unit. Haneman and Manuela have demonstrated to be effective backup magicians. Ingrid on a mount is a great back up for your heavy hitters. Alois and Catherine make great backup tanks - Seteth as well. If you invest enough time with Cyril, he's a great flying unit to use alongside Hilda. Felix is a great to use to finish off damaged units.

Mfw I built my units to be the opposite of their cannon classes and built a Dark flier on accident Made Lysithea strong in swords, axes and bows while making her a flier. Gave her magic weapon variants of these.

My current team after Lonato on GD Maddening/Classic/Fresh file is: Claude. I'm having authority as a goal all game, so he can use any battalions I get for a long time, and have insane damage and hit rate with the pyramid battalion later. Going for S+. Byleth: does professor things Hilda: decided to really invest in her, and even bring her over Leonie in the mock battle, which is a big mistake where I very much wish I had tempest lance for it, but I still won. The experience that early is so stunted, that it doesn't matter who gets it. She's getting str & spd almost every level, and even before the run, I planned to make her a hard carry. I'm classing around for vantage, wrath, and alert stance+ in the long run right now. Leonie: great, but dodged speed levels a few times, and I need to catch her up on levels. Going to switch her between cavalier and pegasus knight during chapters depending which is more useful in the situation. Lysithea: does lysithea things Marianne: does Marianne things, but is leveling really quickly and her damage really helps Ignatz: still hasn't gained a single point of experience, probably keeping it that way, just using him for rally and stride Probably gonna pick up Felix (working on war master) and Ingrid first, but other than that, I feel pretty confident with the students I have, when Seteth/Manuela/Flayn join later. May use Shamir just because I really like her. May pick up Mercedes, Linhardt, and Petra, and hell, I might use Alois. Whenever I screw up a chapter, use all my divine pulses, and reset, usually I end up not needing pulse at all on the final attempt, funnily enough.

Funnily enough, I borrowed Petra for the second mock battle just so I wouldn't have to fight her. It wouldn't let me deploy her, but she wasn't on the enemy's side either, so I got exactly what I wanted. I'll try to get her if I can, but I've mainly been recruiting based on what items I get from paralogues. I'm in the month with remire village, and I just got over 20k gold from fishing, so I'm going to buy all gifts and recruit as much as I can.

Worst comes to worst, Leonie's gonna have swordbreaker and flight, Claude and Shamir will have hit+20 and combat arts, and Lysithea can try to hit her with miasma, so I feel ready for her. I took down a 198 BST 1-2 range Edelgard, and a similar Dimitri with little issue due to both of them getting morale boosts, so I feel pretty confident.

It's also worth noting that flying battalions are relatively scarce for most of part 1 (there's only 3 or so available from the battalion shop alongside one more from Ingrid and Seteth's paralogues, which require high-ish authority ranks) and you usually can't field more than 10 units for most of the game, so you'd be hard-pressed to deploy a full team of combat-ready fliers for most of the game anyways.

I've played 3 playthrough (2 Blue Lions and 1 Golden Deer) and I've learned that my end teams are fairly consistent in what I'm looking for. Fliers make this game. If FE4 is horse emblem, this game is flier emblem. Wyvern Lord and falcon knight are the best master classes for a reason. My dancer ideally wants to be able to use magic well so they can heal if not dancing to gain experience too. Dorothea was my first dancer, and she's an amazing support unit. Ignatz was an underwhelming unit but made a great dancer, plus psychic and rally support. And Annette is my current dancer, and she's excellent as this role as well. Classes that give growth boosts to strength and speed are worth the effort, even if they lack extra movement. Swordmaster and hero give both, war master gives both. It might be worthwhile to train up sword rank for physical units who want the extra speed and strength provided by hero and swordmaster. Similarly, war master is great as a master class for male units who can already use either axe or gauntlets, so train up both. Movement is nice but sometimes infantry provide better utility. 2x magic can be worthwhile as warlock or bishop over dark knight and holy knight. Gremory is a good option for the same reason despite lacking movement. Also, Movement is kinda a trap in this game for cavalry but fliers have virtually no drawbacks. Bow knight is good solely for bow range +2 and not because of growths: you really need to have good stats before you become a bow knight, otherwise you'll never benefit from those awful class growths. Bow knights rely upon their natural growth rates since the class offers nothing of value in terms of growths. Gender locking classes suck. Really didn't like having them in a game that prioritized freedom of classes and weapons etc.

@@roboky0408 What's worse is that female heroes have existed since binding blade with Echidna, and females with dark magic since the same game with Sophia. Why are hero and dark mage gender locked to male only now? Why have gremory for female characters but no comparable sorcerer for males? Why make darting blow completely not accessible to males since it's locked to Pegasus knight? This class system is the most frustrating aspect of the game yet it offers so much fun freedom with weapons.

I've picked uo Three Houses recently as my first Fire Emblem title and my comp was mostly made of damage dealers cause I like doing damage. You're playstyle in the video seems interesting and I think I'll try it in a future playthrough

Currently planning on using most of Golden deer. Likely dropping Lorenz for Silvain since he’s under leveled in comparison to everyone else. (Levels 3-5 prior to lenato. Don’t underestimate Byleth’s personal for maddening.)

Oh I would definitely recommend that. Sylvain is a great lancer, whether he’s a Paladin or a Wyvern. Another tip, raise his lance rank to A as soon as possible.

Couple of things to add here guys. An ideal team comp for higher difficulties is 5 wyverns, no more no less. They all have to share a weapon type which means that brave axes become invaluable but wootz steel is limited so having other brave effects to ORKO without eating a counter or through your limited resource pool of ore is amazing. This props felix, sylvain and Ferdinand up a bit a seeing as two bring swift strikes that can allow them to use lances over axes, and one can use thunderbrand. Spreading your resources out and having different weapons on the battlefield is invaluable when going up against enemy breaker skills. Next you want your two warpers, linhardt and lysithea. Lysithea can warp and still provide instant kills to tough opponents on enemy phase and linhardt is the second best healer in the game and also the second best warper. Next you have the best dancer in the game is Dorthea. She has the best spell list in the game for the job, provides passive utility no one else can and really takes advantage of being dancer for increasing her offensive utility as well. With 2 slots left i really like having a backup dancer like Bernadetta. Someone mounted that can use dance of the goddess is great and when she gets to bowknight in part two she can actually fight, but if you want to completely forgoe combat you can have Annette go cavalry and do the same thing but be a rally bot instead of used for chip damage, and ignatz can do both roles however his stats and rallys are a bit worse. When picking your adjutants you really want to make sure they both support and have a bond with there partner so you get the most out of them with might, hit and avoid. In summary best team comp Wyvern lords -Byleth -Dimitri/Edelgard/Claude -Leionie -Petra -Sylvain Mortal Savant -Felix (Has massive offensive advantages and healer utility plus the exp that comes with it over WL Felix) Dancer -Dorthea Gremory -Lysithea Darknight/Bishop -Linhardt (Map dependent class) Bow knight -Bernadetta Adjutants Flayn for Byleth Dedue/hubert/hilda for house lord Ingrid for Sylvain

It is so interesting to see other peoples unit compositions because sometimes characters can grow differently, in all of my play through so far Petra has been one of the most busted units and Can solo bosses all the way to endgame and Hilda the same way but then you have a composition without using either of those really an interesting game three houses

falcon knight dodge tank ingrid is amazing in end game especially in AM, just grab someone to warp her over to myson to stop his annoying reduce to 1HP spell and she'll be fine on her own with a demonic beast for a round or so. You can always use rescue to get her out if you're worried

My Silver Snow team I’m using almost feels built to beat the final 2 maps. I managed to cook Fodlan’s best, and then cooked two hp meals, so +7 hp, and +1 to everything else for everyone. Byleth (Male): Wyvern Lord Over 50 str and spd, and seiros shield. Can wield both the shield and the sword of the creator weightlessly. Shamir: Sniper Edging onto 60 dex and luck, with 37 str. Hunters volley murders everything. No exceptions. Ferdinand: Wyvern Lord Dodge tank with Ochain Shield and Spear of Assal for passive healing to maintain +15 avo. I’m using him right now to instantly cut off white beast reinforcements, while the falcon knights have a 13% chance of even scratching him. Hapi: Dark Knight Bansheelocker/warper. I also fed her every single res booster I owned and have her with the Nuvelle maids for +7 res. White beasts go for her no matter what and they deal 2 damage to her. Balthus: War Master He kills nearly everything in one round as long as he can hit the enemy. If he can’t normally, eviscerate will. Quick Riposte allows him to tank about 3 enemies per turn, regardless of their speed. Lysithea: Gremory Mostly here for the 1 turn reinforcement block with Ferdinand, but she can occasionally fit a kill in here and there. She gets 5 range thanks to S tomes and Thyrsus. Seteth: Probably my worst unit, but he’s still a flier who can one round most mages or cavs with a ridersbane. Swift Strikes is a blessing, and despite being stuck with Empire Pegasi for the 15 hit, he still packs a punch. Catherine: Assassin Just your average Catherine. Fast and decently powerful. Also super dodge tanky. Too bad most of the enemies don’t use axes, as her avoid against them reaches stupid levels. Linhardt/Dorothea: Bishops Just there for Physic. Actually pretty vital, especially toward the final Boss I presume. Bernadetta: Paladin Vengeance. The +7 hp from meals really helps. Averages around 90 or so damage Yuri: Dancer Dancer with 7 mov, canto, nearly 100 avoid, and a ranged gambit for good measure. Pretty versatile all around.

Yes especially for any male bow or magic user like lorenz lantz etc since the 20% damage at the end of the round is amazing for chip damage

I like using Hilda as dancer, because of the support + siege magic combo. She makes a rather poor mage, but she gets Bolting at A. That threatens an insane distance and because she has supports with the entire house (and some very good recruitables) you can have her dancing while equipped with bolting, providing that tasty gambit and attack link to as many people as possible without worrying too much about positioning. Dorothea is my choice for blue lions/black eagles for the same reason, but her supports with golden deer aren't as good as Hilda's.

I'm not a fan of equipping Seals, Rallies, or Authority abilities on my characters, but I definitely appreciate the Dance ability and any mage with the Physic spell. I deploy Byleth and my House leader on all my missions, but will mix-up the rest of my units as needed. For instance, I'll send a higher number of mages for maps that have heavy knights, or speedy characters on maps with assassins, archers on maps with birds, and flyers on maps with poor terrain or lots of walls. The only class I don't use much are the characters that use gauntlets. I know they become beasts later in the game, but I just can't grind them without pulling my hair out lol. Paladins are also low on my favorite list as well since they are middle of the ground in all aspects (with lance and speed). They take some time to become useful in my opinion and usually require a lot of help with their combat arts to finish off enemies. I think Leonie is fun since she can bow and lance on her horse, which is super useful.

I'm a little over a minute into the video and I'd like to say that Ignatz has always been a reliable little bean for me...and he makes a pretty good War Master brawler. Three minutes in...Dorothea is never good. She has always sucked when I played her. She would be decent if her spell list was better. None of her spells have a high mt and having a good magic growth doesn't compensate for it.

I'm close to the timeskip and dancer Ingrid so far just dodges everything and I even used her for that in a clutch moment where I knew Solon would crit thanks to divine pulse. I built Ingrid as a dancer for two reasons. The first being she has a poor strength growth and the second being that I recruited her so late she couldn't equip a battalion since she started with E Authority as a pegasus knight. I suspect Ingrid will keep dodging everything later on with an iron sword+ This game is really about looking at your options when team building.

The problem is : "Time". Don't have the time to do all the stuff, recruit all this people and grinding.....i have now the full party of blue lions and i'm trying to recruit lisythea and stop....Just wanna play the game with those guys and if the game negates you this...well it's actually a shame. I don't really now which class to choose for my guys......Maybe maddening it's not for me but i'm trying to do the best. PS : I'm playing just normal NG not NG+

Really the only routes where building some insane team is necessary are Crimson Flower and Silver Snow. Verdant Wind and Azure Moon are both difficult, but its similar to Genealogy where your best tools are given to you guaranteed, like Seliph, Ares and Leif.

You know those people who are grinding units to level 80 saying it’s necessary for Maddening? Those are the people he’s talking about. Ironically, those who are grinding for OP teams are likely not using stat boosts because it takes 2 weeks just to get 1 stat boosting item. It is much more efficient to basically soft reset on level ups to ensure you are getting max stats.
