In this video we talk about how to communicate the impact of your work in order to improve your chances of getting hired or promoted as a UX researcher. It is easy to forget what companies really care about in the end when someone asks you to present your previous work. As researchers we have put in a lot of effort and we will describe the methods, decisions we made, synthesis and findings, which is all great... BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER! what companies care about is the IMPACT of the work you did. Knowing how to identify your impact and present it in a way that makes stakeholders care is essential to get your first job in UXR and to grow your career further.
I will walk you through the 4 types of impact
- User impact
- Product impact
- Ops impact
- Business impact
and explain how you might go about measuring and reporting these as well as how you can build a chain of impact around your work to make case for the value of your research.
In the end I give a concrete example of how you might build a chain of impact around any previous piece of work.
