Build a curved trestle bridge over fake rocks on an N scale model railway

This video shows how I built a small detailed section of the layout with a trestle bridge built around a natural landscape of realistic rocks. We'll go through making the rocky terrain, the scratch-built trestle bridge and a little crossing leading up to a wooden cabin. The wooden cabin is a laser-cut kit from Blair Line and the video shows kit construction, painting and detailing tips to complete the scene. The trestle bridge is not prototypically accurate but is intended to enough realism to the overall scene which is a rustic mining locality set in the late steam-era.

I really like how you did all of this. I have a great love for trestle bridges. I like how you make this using light materials. My layout is On30 and made to go to train shows . So Im always looking ways to make things light. Great work keep up the good work.

Wow.. fantastic scenery... I really love the way you do your rocks... I'm in the planning stages for an N scale diorama of a mountain coal mine loader with steam trains. Im going to have the tracks come out of a tunnel and then almost immediately cross a curved wooden bridge before entering the coal loading area... your bridge and rocks will be the inspiration for my designs... thanks for the great work and vid..

How about some more information on how you did this? Kidding - Are you a professional videographer? If not you could have fooled me. Informative, straight to the point, not a moment wasted useful info. You should make a video on how to make videos. I subscribed based on this video alone. Keeping a workshop that tidy would be a triumph for me. I'll be applying what I learned here on my layout tomorrow and adapting it to Kato Unitrack Cheers from Yonkers NY.

I tried laying down dirt and also grass scatter in the way that you had described. I used the isopropyl alcohol first, and then sprayed the water/glue mixture as you did. When I was done, the area where I used the alcohol dried much darker than the surrounding areas where I only used glue underneath what was put down. The dirt looked muddy, and the grass was a very dark shade of green, even though it started out as a light/medium shade. Is this normal?

That's interesting, did the surface have dark paint? Wondering if the isoprophyl drew it up into the materials.
